How much difference has the minimum Price for Alcohol had (other than making the people of Wales pay more than they do in England) my guess is ZERO, which is about as much difference on obesity as this idea will have.

Wonderful diction from C.S. Lewis. Have we got to the stage where adults can't choose for themselves and need a government to hold their hands in the choices of life. We all know deep down what's good for us and what's bad, most sensible human beings will. Stuff your face full of chocolate and Macky D's with no exercise and you will have problems. The odd Macky D mixed in with sensible eating exercise will not be a problem. Moderation and a little discipline should suffice. Unfortunately some just can't do this.

But surely by doing so they take away the right of people to choose , not that I condone fast food but they have a place in todays society pretty much as Costas etc. The WAG is slowly turning Wales into a joke which is not funny

Obviously CS Lewis did not understand the concept of irony...He was very religious and it bled through his writing. Other than that I do agree to an extent.

This is the crux of it. It's interference for the sake of it. Nobody possessing a whit of intelligence would actually expect it to make a difference. Those who wish to continue cramming in the crisps and chocolate will continue to do so regardless. Those who just want a cheap lunch will be inconvenienced. Just as with the Minimum Unit Pricing fiasco, all it will do is pointlessly drive up the cost. But these people can't help themselves. They believe the Government can, and should, control every part of people's lives. It's stuff like this that makes me understand those loony Americans who barricade themselves into their houses and threaten to shoot any Government official foolish enough to enter their crosshairs. | Senedd Banning Meal Deals on 11:38 - Feb 18 with 2272 views | AnotherJohn | Wales seems to be vying with Scotland for the nanny state crown. No smacking, 20 mph speed limits on more roads. minimum alcohol pricing, meal deals... I see that Prof Drakeford has even thrown his weight behind the ill-fated Gender Recognition Act. The common thread is the extension of law to draw clearer lines around what people can or cannot do. Those who want to change society are especially fond of incorporating such rules or "rights" into international treaties that then become very hard for national electorates to undo. Anybody interested should google "juridification" and "adversarial legalism".

We often see the term "right wing loonies" banded about, as well as right wing extremism. Well if this isn't lunacy and extremism from our left wing government then Kilkenny is a Bojo supporter! PS, AnotherJohn, your last paragraph it seems to me is pretty much what the EU do. They introduce rules for all the EU members that many of those member states do not want. Then when member states ignore those rules or try to change their own laws the EU punishes them. I think it was Germany's Bundestag wh decided that Their state laws had primacy over EU laws and the EU and them argued long and hard about it. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/09/eu-launches-legal-case-against-ger

minimum alcohol pricing, Hasn't stopped the drinking, just driven people away from pubs and restaurants, part of the reason weve seen so many closures.

In terms of pricing of alcohol in pubs, the minimum pricing levels shouldn’t impact as pub prices are much higher than the minimum price the WG set, it’s the prices in supermarkets that are affected. I’d have no issue with minimum pricing if the money went in to drug and alcohol services, however it stays in the retailers pocket so I’m against it.

Banning smoking really didn’t help. Can’t see why a pub couldn’t have a smoking lounge.

Sadly, lots of pubs are closing down, they are being priced out by greedy breweries charging high rents, high prices for beer, utility bills and business rates. Throw in things like a smoking ban, decreased disposal income, increased awareness of the health risks and a host of other things and it’s clear why pubs are and have been closing. I think a decent pub is an asset to its community, wish my village still had one.
| Senedd Banning Meal Deals on 22:31 - Feb 18 with 2059 views | Boundy | Just say the fools get their way and ban meal deals there why stop there and if they can do that then why not ban cigarettes or alcohol all together , both have their impact on the health of the nation and I'm curious to know what gives them them right to ban a promotion which is designed to help allow competition between retailers to attract customers, which in turn helps keep prices down. They're not my guardian and they should be reminded of that at the polling booth | |
