| That Brighton game yesterday 13:11 - Apr 9 with 1400 views | KeithHaynes | For me that was well dodgy all round. And now VAR apologise, what can be done to penalise these decision makers and of course ensure clubs don’t miss out ? > The PGMOL’s chief refereeing officer, Howard Webb, has made contact with Brighton to apologise for the officials’ failure to award the Seagulls a penalty in their 2-1 loss to Spurs. Kaoru Mitoma was tripped in the box by Pierre-Emile Højbjerg but referee Stuart Attwell failed to spot the infringement. The error was compounded by the video assistant referee (VAR), Michael Salisbury, failing to overturn Attwell’s decision. Five decisions are now under investigation. It could deprive Brighton the chance of Champions League football. That’s how impactive this is. When it’s so obvious and continually so is there more at play here ?

| That Brighton game yesterday on 14:39 - Apr 9 with 1297 views | EagleEye | It was a fast end to end entertaining game. The least Brighton deserved was a draw. Referees are relying ever more increasingly on VAR to make the big calls. While VAR is rarely overturning on field decisions. A bit like the linesmen down the stadium, they seem to wait on the referee to decide who gets a throw in and miss as many offsides as they get decisions right | | | |
| That Brighton game yesterday on 15:50 - Apr 9 with 1247 views | SullutaCreturned | The handball thing really irritates me. It used to be simple, hand to ball otherwise it's not handball. Brighton have a shot, a player facing the other way gets hit by the ball and it may have touched his arm but I wasn't sure, goal ruled out. Does anyone else find this cersion of the rules bad? VAR COULD have improved things hut its been handled so badly you'd be forgiven for thinking the government installed it. | | | |

First hand ball goal disallowed maybe should have been disallowed but the only reason the strike needed to raise his arm was because of a push in the back from the defender pushing him forward of the ball. If VAR decides it is not a goal because of handball then the penalty for the push which happened first should have been given .

The best linesman I've seen at the Liberty was Sian Massey-Ellis. Resolute, stood up to refs and very rarely wrong. More balls than the rest put together. (And she was attacked by. cardiff player but got up and got on with the game.)

| That Brighton game yesterday on 11:56 - Apr 10 with 987 views | theloneranger | 2 x 100% pens and 2 x 100% goals disallowed by an incompetent ref and VAR. Sky reckons if this result costs Brighton a Champions League spot - it could cost them up to £200M in lost revenue. | |

I can't understand why VAR isn't run like it is in Rugby, they very rarely get a decision badly wrong.

The question has to be asked with the technology and the obvious nature of that penalty, it was so obvious. Then is VAR enabling favouritism when it falls down to one person ( out of seven witnesses ) to make a decision, how any professional referee can look at that and turn it down isn’t incompetence for me. There’s a lot more to it.

I always felt with VAR we would have picked up more points in the Premier League. After recent decisions I'm not so sure.

VAR was meant to bring fairness to the game I thought. It does anything but and as this instance proves officials on the field and in the studio still favour the so called bigger teams. With all the technology available there should be no incorrect decisions end of. Will it take a court case for loss of potential income to get fairness for the Brightons of this world?

See what you’re saying but there are many instances where penalty claims are not 100% - either decision could be deemed correct. I appreciate that was not the case in the Brighton game.

It’s almost as if football wants to remain controversial just for the sake of it and sod those little teams who try to break up a cartel.

We'd have beaten Man City in the FA Cup.
