Russell Martin’s job at risk ? The influence of Swansea City’s investment examined 28th Apr 2023 13:09
We can reveal today some clarification on the three new Swans investors who have been referred to by BNN Bloomberg recently. It seems discussions are very near a conclusion and it’s a very positive move for Swansea City. However, there are some matters to clarify in that report. The three investors are Andy Coleman, Nigel Morris and Brett Cravatt that much we do know. All respected businessmen in the USA. 1

its about time we had one of these, click above.

Intriguing!
Something that stood out was the comment, 'It would be ridiculous now to change two years of implementing a plan thatseems to be coming together.'
The same could have been said around this time last year when we went 9 games unbeaten although only 3 were won.

Quite simply, the new investors are keen as it stands to keep him on board and see no reason in meddling with his progress. They weren’t here last season.

Levien, Silverstein and Kaplan are experienced sports investors and financially at least have done very well for their fellow investors in their camp.

The new investors are bankers and entrepreneurs in different field with no evident sports ownership background. The new investors would not start telling Levien to make changes. Levien and co have learned a lot from 10 years at DC and 7 years at Swansea.

The January window I repeat was management master class. Martin had to change and has been forced to innovate and adapt to great results.

Martin's whole record has been patchy with long winning spells and long losing spells. One hopes the post January self reflection was a turning point in Martins's own destiny. Lets hope he has seen the light. All these 6 events were unexpected

Patterson returned
Walsh became a good credible footballer
Fisher hit form
Darling played full back and
Cullen started banging in goals.
The defence tightened up with Wood and Cabango.

Notwithstanding the reality that results are, and always have been, better when we're just doing the simple things and not trying to implement Russy's plan.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

They didn't sack him during that awful run.
We are now on a good run as we had earlier in the season.
The alleged plan was coming together when we were 4th in the league.
Then there was no plan for half a season and now it's returned?
If that's the case there's a good chance ''said'' plan could go missing again.
I think that's why no new contract talks haven't taken place.

Not sure if he will survive another run anything remotely like that mind, but recent form will certainly stand him in good stead going into next season.

Owners appear fully committed here, they may not be Hollywood super heroes like some would like them to be, but in terms of ownership they are absolutely spot on with their commitment in my view.

These deals aren’t done overnight and on a whim, this is lengthy planning with club in mind. I hope they start getting the respect they deserve when they fly over next season.

For all the learnings and experience that they have in sports investments, they have overseen relegation, substantial financial losses and well, not very successful sporting outfits on the actual field of play.

You think the new ‘investors’ are going to be silent partners ? The track record of the current owners leaves a lot to be desired not least in their ability to manage the club finances.

I don't think you would put £10M (personally I think it more or it does not add up) and remain silent partners.

£120m income down by 80% and only making small losses (which they are absorbing through cash injections) is remarkable financial management.

DC United are sat in 8th with significant investment in terms of players, management and a new stadium. Their value has grown exponentially since they were on board.

Swansea were always getting relegated in and around that time, only an oil tycoon could have stopped it. Since then we have had TWO play off visits in 4 seasons, and still may get one this season, although unlikely. But in my view we should have made playoffs this season with the squad at our disposal.

Brisbane Bullets had a poor season but there are reasons for that. Nathan Sobey who has been their star player and one of the best in the league for some time (except for maybe Bryce Cotton) started showing the first sign of age creeping in. Think of it as the season Ronaldo started going down hill for Madrid, they just weren’t the same. Nothing to do with ownership.

I disagree. The club finances have been managed reasonably well. This is a super high risk business. Something the fans as owners did not understand. The fans owners do not belong in business as their banks and legal advisors are their only significant beneficiaries. T

The trauma of relegation which included a degree of bad luck, the Covid pandemic and the spoilt brat behaviour of some players has been handled rather well. All that and no debts should be a cause for praise not criticism.

Welsh football fans like a joke and a song and dance routine numerous high profile charitable donations, and regular statements of love for the community from their US owners it seems.

The last time Levien's boys played the mighty Notts County they handed them a 9-1 beating. Even Narsingh played well.

So not very successful on the field of play then ?

Depends what you consider success.

They aren’t buying world beating teams, they won’t be winning the champions league any time soon if that’s your barometer.

2 play offs in 4 seasons for us and trending towards our second ever promotion to the Premier League seems pretty successful for us, where it counts.
