1+1+1 =3. Only a fool would use that combo with 30 somethings on the pitch.

It's not quite as simple as that though.
You make substitutions based on performance, injury, fatigue etc........yes it could come back to haunt you but % wise that's a chance that is a very small chance to come back to haunt you in the far bigger picture.

Using 4 subs (2+2) instead off 3 subs (1+1+1) leaves you cover late in the game. for 80 mins plus . These days there is another 20 mins of action.
It is a little complicated but managers are paid big money to be smart and have assistants. Running out of players (for 20 minuites) when half of out filed players can be replaced with careful management is unforgivable in my view. If you have 6 injuries then fair enough but when does that happen.? | |
