Duff and Coleman presser 20:25 - Jul 1 with 1960 viewsmagicdaps10

Very interesting one, both looked a bit uneasy especially Coleman but I thought Duff was excellent once settled.

Worth a watch.

Duff seems a pretty straight talker. I was rather amused when he said ' it's not about me ' after Martin's press conferences which were all about him!

Poll: When will Duff Revert to 4 at the Back

I'm trying not to get too hyped up about Duff but he's ticking all the right boxes so far. Particularly impressed with his stated desire to play on the front foot, that possession without results is pointless and that he will wait and see who he has available before he decides on the makeup of his team.

The proof will be in the pudding of course, but compare and contrast to his predecessor and it's basically a complete 180.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

That interview was a complete breath of fresh air.
I was so,so sick of Martinspeak, and his self promotion.
It was there for all to see if you’d cared to look for it.
He seemed a like a likeable and genuine guy, but his football philosophy was that of a manager of Man City/Real Madrid.
Play it out from the back, and the players will cope with it.
Trouble was, the players available couldn’t handle it, and he had no plan B.
Michael Duff is the total opposite, he’d rather win, than have possession for possession’s sake.
By all accounts his favourite saying is he wants “Sweat on the shirt “
Could be a big wake up call for quite a few of our players, when you consider how many of them have previously run out of steam in the last quarter of the game.
I honestly think that the new investors, are the engine behind the new positive vibes that we are seeing at this moment in time.
I’m genuinely excited about what is about to happen to our football club.

Me too
I've dissed so many managers I've lost count but I see this guy as different and a much better fit for a working class outfit like us
We have been horrendously bullpooped for two seasons of Russ and that followed big eyed Steve , a failure in two play offs

It's going to be a breath of fresh air

Never watched any of Martin's pressers but I have a good idea about duff so I'd thought I'd give it a go.

His interview didn't come as surprise to me as I've been told what he's like, he comes across as an upright, honest, straight talking bloke, he likes his players to be fit so he won't take any prisoners and he likes to play several formations, what's not to like.

The fitness thing is a bit of a misnomer for me. Most professional players have to achieve a certain standard of fitness or they wouldn't be professional players at all. You're talking a deviation of a couple of percent at most.

I am however impressed by his stated flexibility. Not bound by any particular adherence to a "process", he says he will do the best he can with what is available. I liked that he made reference to how little he spent at both Cheltenham and Barnsley and still made leaps forward. A team of lesser talent well coached can punch above its weight and Duff appears to understand this.

Ultimately I just want a team that tries to win games by scoring more goals than the opposition. Not by hanging onto the ball more, not by racking up more passes, but by creating more chances and sticking the ball away. Duff seems to want to play that way. I hope he can deliver.

I completely agree with that although I’m never put off by a coach who is not “nice”. Ferguson was hardly “nice”.
Duffers does seem,at this juncture, free of banal management speak drivel and appears honest in how he goes about his job.
I’m of an inclination if things aren’t good,he will tell us so.

We ve had enough BS to last a lifetime and now ,please God,we might have found a cure .

Some good players get away with not putting in 100 % effort, I don't think anyone at the club will get away with slacking.

Slacking boils my p!ss, when I played RL I gave everything in trying knowing that it would better prepare me for games, it's the same in football, train hard, play easy.

This presser tells me that ti's guy is the real deal, he comes across as having as having a solution for every problem, he will be a PL manger sooner rather than later and I hope it is with us.

I just think people too often use "slacking" or "lazy" or "hiding" as means to criticise players who do nothing of the sort.

Jay Fulton was regularly accused of hiding on the pitch at one point. Which made no sense even then, even less so now. I'll also throw the name of Obafemi in as well. Another player frequently accused of slacking off who I never saw give less than 100% on the pitch and frequently left it drenched in sweat at full time. You can go as far back as Jason Scotland too for another player criticised for his apparent lack of work rate.

I don't think there's anyone at the club who lacks for workrate at the moment. Confidence perhaps. Quality coaching in recent times? Absolutely. Effort? I don't believe so. Duff will be preparing them for a different, more intense kind of football and I'd expect them to step up to the challenge.

Ah, Scotland, I'm not sure Duff would accept a forward not closing down defenders when t's played out from the back but that's in the past now.

I agree with Fireboy, when players leave the itch they should be sweat soaked, they should be tired. They should have given it all and with few exceptions.

That does seem to be the way our new manager wants it, 100% effort all the time, then it's down to him to use the subs wisely which was always a bugbear for me where Martin was concerned. he'd make the same changes at roughly the same times. During THAT 21 game run with 3 wins it was always the same.

A amanger who makes the right choices at the right times is worth his weight in gold and if Duff is that man he won't be here very long. While he is here though I'm as confident as I can be that I'll enjoy the ride.

My opinion is lack of fitness in RL is harder to overcome than in football as the physicality in being tackled alone is draining and it’s easier to get hurt as a result .
RL is an honest game

Very impressed, a bit of help from Lady Luck in the first few weeks and this could be the start of something special.

Duff was impressive.
Coleman has a lot of work to do in the next 5 weeks! and hopefully Watson and Duff can help him.

Good press conference. A straight talker with no BS. I'm looking forward to the season with optimism.

One small point that i've made before about press conferences. Why don't they have mikes for the questioners as well ? We have to listen to the answers in order to work out what the question was.

Slacking and hiding still goes on, even at the top level, certain players get away with because they are that good.

I know for a fact that whittaker is one of these sort, I've played RL with a few and I suspect there are a couple at our club, we will find out shortly.
