We could replace him with better but if he were to get another then he would at least be deserving on merit

I’ve never been a fan but he is a real team man and obviously looks after himself The fact he’s a south wales boy is not the point . He should get one on merit . He has worked hard on his game so good on him.

I am not a massive fan but he's a team player and a JB, atm he's playing really well. Give him a decent wage but I can see the club taking the p!ss so it wouldn't surprise me if he left in January.

Think Cullen is seen as a willing lad and a lad locals can get behind but not one who is worthy of a big contract . If he goes, it’s about who replaces .

| The case for Liam Cullen continues - How close is he to a new contract ? on 10:26 - Oct 30 with 1538 views | EagleEye | The question for me would be how much would we have to pay to replace him ? He’s just about doing enough & deserves his squad place based on what we have on board at the moment. Make him an offer to extend | | | | Login to get fewer ads

For a fee yes, unless we have another Paterson stand off situation which the club are best avoiding.

Ginnelly, Kukharevych, Congreve, Liam Smith... It's not like the cupboard is going to be bare in that right wing position. We spent money and have youngsters coming through. It's a bit like Latibeaudiere last season. Small wage for a current regular starter who is likely not seen as the long-term answer to the position he's playing. Do you offer a first team pay packet and then still have to think about improving the team?
| The case for Liam Cullen continues - How close is he to a new contract ? on 12:24 - Oct 30 with 1441 views | jack247 | Unless we bring someone in to cover Ginelly, he’s either going to start or come on more or less every time he is available. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s intelligent and versatile enough to play anywhere across the front three or the Paterson role. Not suggesting he’ll be our best player in any of those positions, but he’s an option in all of them. I’d be really surprised if we don’t offer him a new contract. | | | |
| The case for Liam Cullen continues - How close is he to a new contract ? on 12:40 - Oct 30 with 1419 views | Dr_Winston | Like I said in another thread. As backup to Yates and Kukharevich then I'd have no problem offering him a new deal, but at a commensurate wage, which £10k a week isn't. Half that maybe. If he can do better elsewhere then good luck to him. | |

I know you are a big Yates fan but I would prefer to have Cullen playing in and around the box. IMO the only reason Cullen is out right and not upfront is the investment in Yates.

Herein we have the common problem where everything is either brilliant or shit. If you're not joining in the slagging then you obviously must adore a player. I'm not a "big Yates fan". I just think a lot of the stick he's getting at the moment is unfounded and the same kind of thoughtless stuff we've seen thrown at plenty of other strikers around here before and will continue to defend him against it. He's doing OK for me. Not brilliant, but certainly better than a lot of people will admit. If he was missing a shedload of chances then perhaps he'd deserve it. As it is he's barely getting any chances at all. I've just seen too much of Cullen over the last few seasons to think that's he's worth half a million a year. I like his workrate and he has improved since he was the player bafflingly getting games ahead of Morgan Whittaker, but with a budget as finite as ours is I would be taking a good long while to think before deciding to commit that much on him. They are so similar, I’d really like to see them sharing a role. Both high output, aggressively chasing lost causes and hassling defenders. Let either of them empty the tank for an hour then bring the other one on. I think both would have benefitted had Ginelly not got injured, albeit with less minutes on the pitch.
| The case for Liam Cullen continues - How close is he to a new contract ? on 21:08 - Oct 30 with 1193 views | swan_si | I'd offer him a new 3 year contract. If, as mentioned we offer him £10k a week i see it as a good deal for both him and the club,at 24 years of age he should be seen as a potential asset, if he keeps improving then we have him tied down for at least 3 years and possibly more, if not then I'm sure at his age and hopefully a few Welsh caps behind him, his value could far outweigh the £1.5m offered. | | | |

He will have to fight for 10k a week, I think the club will hold him to ransom on his love of the area, friends, family etc all close by.

I believe Swansea should always help the players that come through the academy. I was sad to see Garrick go but Swansea got some form of fee for him and he has not kicked on. He is very useful now because of his relatively low wages. His output is greater than his costs which is good for the club. Now a decision needs to be made. All the indications are he will stay as all his managers have liked him and chosen him over Whittaker.

Trust me his agent is thinking otherwise and actively seeking suitors, as is his job. If we play hardball he will be gone.

| The case for Liam Cullen continues - How close is he to a new contract ? on 14:57 - Oct 31 with 955 views | RichardO | We have developed him as a youngster, sent him out of loan to continue his development he is not a right winger but he has had games where his contributions had made a difference. Sell him on for a massive profit? Not going to happen any time soon, do we need him as part of our squad seeing as we have 5 loan players on the books this year all getting first team starting games. Planning for the future.? [Post edited 31 Oct 2023 18:12]
