The thing the Warren Farm lot have willfully ignored all the way through is that councils are absolutely stony broke. They've had government funding cut and cut and cut again to the point where they can't even do their basic, fundamental jobs.
Northamptonshire, flagship Tory council, has been allowed to go broke under a Tory government which would have been unthinkable at one point. Several others are effectively bust as well. They cannot even provide basic provisions like libraries (closing at a rapid rate) and bin collections any more - couple of councils in Wales have moved to collecting bins once a month, imagine that in the heat of the summer with a family of young kids. We've had a note through the door from Barnet this week saying they're ceasing some of our recycling bin collections and cutting back on others - and they've outsourced absolutely everything.
Sheffield, Newcastle, Bristol, several others, have chopped down literally thousands of trees because they can't afford to upkeep them any more. Park maintenance is being cut, or abandoned altogether, parkland is being sold off wherever they can.
If you think any council in this climate has a few million quid kicking around to bring you a lovely new sports pavilion like the one in Regents Park, and staff it, and maintain it, out of the public purse, when they can't even afford to collect your fcking bin, you're living in cloud cuckoo land. They should be grateful for this investment in a sports facility on a neglected site, could have been a big fck off Taylor Wimpey housing estate instead. |  | | |

Yeh not disagreeing, just saying that the 'alternative' idea Warren Farm protesters have put forward is for the council to reject QPR's offer to build them community sport facilities for free, and take a hazardous, derelict eyesore off their hands at the same time, and instead pay for one of these out of the millions of pounds they have lying around.... That simply ignores the state that councils are in all over the country after a decade of "austerity".
My favourite bit of that plan is "the cost" which is dealt with in two sentences that basically say "yeh, it's a lot of money innit, but you've spent money on other parks before so presumably you've got some more lying about in a mattress somewhere".

I’ve just watched the 2nd series of ‘Making A Murderer’. Everytime Brendan won an appeal and looked like he would be released the State kept taking it to higher court until eventually they won and the poor bugger had to stay in prison.

Northern's right, it's going to be a big thing in the next few years.
Any time any Chancellor, Con or Lab, has to make a tough budget they know that when they squeeze defence or NHS or whatever some minister will have to stand up and say what they're cutting; but they can chop a big slice off local govt and no-one in parliament will have to carry the can. If a council goes tits up the govt will say the council were crap and others manage OK.
Chances are the council will have been crap, that's why they're the one that goes bust first, bit like us with FFP, but a Northants situation shouldn't really be possible.
When it No 11 gets generous you can bet it'll go on something the govt can take credit for, not the council.
Lots of councils are propping up their finances with investments in commercial property and that's not going to end well for a lot of them. | | | |

Well the Club are stating on the official site that they will be investing "millions of pounds" so presumably it will go ahead. I hope that whatever money they do invest is not taken into account as FFP spending....! |  | | |
