Eze 19:59 - Jul 8 with 4078 viewsPetros

I know he has done some lovely things this season but he has been awful the last three games. Hiding.

We were awful today. And Eze was not good.

But he was asked to play as one of the two holding midfielder roles today. If anyone was poor it was Chair. Created nothing at no. 10 and missed all 3 decent chances we created, the last of which was a sitter.

Got a funny the deal is done, and he will be at Spurs next season. No real evidence or insight so may be completely wrong.

I keep thinking back to Neil Warnock on the Talking Heads thing with the Four Year Plan about the first way he approached management with Adel - a player like that you don't want coming deep picking up the ball in his own half, he's so heavily marked he will be hound down, and he's far too far away from the opposition areas to do any harm. So as Uncle Neil says, he banned everyone from passing to Adel in our own half. Let him have the ball once we're heading to the opposition third, then let him cause havoc.

I feel the same about Eze at the moment - so many times he is picking up the ball in and around the centre circle and being surrounded, and he can't go anywhere. No point in my view in having him on the ball there - for the same reasons as Adel, he can't do anything productive there.

I'd like to see Eze in these games to come being pushed far further up the pitch, dont bother having him mess about around the centre circle, have him much higher up the pitch where he can do his stuff properly.

Yes, he was playing too deep. The lower placed teams that we have played against since the restart have put extra players on Eze and Bright and have mostly kept them quiet.

I disagree. I think that he needs to come deep to control the passing and possession. He's the best we have at both. If we had Faurlin and Derry, then maybe. But we don't. So when Eze's up the field he gets neither ball or space.

If memory serves he's faded at the back end of the season before. I know there's been a break, but he appears to be the same now. Mentally, rather than physically, tired.

As much as i rate Eze he is no way as good as Taarabt.

You're right, but I find it hard to understand how they can put extra numbers on both and we still look like we are outnumbered elsewhere

They have been worked out. Shodipo hasn’t yet as he is new, and looked good tonight. Sure it’ll be ok.

If Eze's been awful and hiding, be interested to hear some thoughts on LfW fan favourite Chair.

No doubt another free pass on the forum and a joint top scoring 7 in match report.

Just don't get our fans jumping on Eze every time and others getting a pass.

Hope Chair comes good but has some fundamental flaws to work on through the summer if he's going to make it in the Championship.

Well, today we made it easy I thought, as they just swamped midfield and we didn't match them there until 55 mins or so. They were guaranteed to win most of the loose possession (mostly created by us as we looked in vain for targets as we played out from the back). We had one too many at the back and we had Eze and BOS too far forward where we couldn't get good ball to them.

Once we matched up with numbers by going 4231 we had our best spell. Then their subs gave them back control, I felt.

I think Eze has been disappointing since the restart in comparison to his form earlier in the season. He's not the only one.

I thought both had short spells of good play today, but both were ineefectual.

I don't think either were hiding, though,

Eze is 1.5 years ahead of chair in the development cycle. It’s reasonable to hold Eze to a higher standard. He’s also a better player

Chair has also had some decent performances since the restart whereas Eze has been really off the mark

Agree, just wish both had put their laces through the ball tonite.

I'm Eze's biggest fan but has to cut out the fancy touches on the edge of the box and just leather it more often. Shooting from distance has deteriorated and he needs to work on it to realise huge potential.

There is no way Mourinho would sign Eze. I reckon it'll be Palace or maybe Southampton.

I don't think he gets into dangerous positions often enough. With Hugill out he has got to be our main attacking threat. The were numerous times tonight when someone else got hold of the ball in midfield and Eze failed to make a forward run.

He's playing to deep for me. he needs to be floating in and around the area where he can do some damage.

Can we not just enjoy watching our most entertaining player since Taarabt without constantly criticising.

We are very fortunate to have him and he's a great lad with a great attitude who deserves our backing, not sniping.

It's the way I feel about Eze as well. For last couple of seasons have enjoyed his performances from my seat in the upper loft. He has that bit of swagger on the ball that when it comes off, makes football all the more enjoyable. I wish him all the best wherever he goes next.

He is a great lad with a great attitude and has a good future in the game but we are miles off the the team we had in 10/11 season. Watching the game tonight we're lucky to be in the championship.

But in that case you are asking Eze to do the job that Faurlin and Derry used to do when we also need him to do the job Taarabt used to. (Doesn't matter which of those two was the better player, it's the role I'm talking about)

It seems to me that with Pugh gone and Amos + Kane sub-par compared to pre-lockdown, and just Hugill as a recognised striker, Eze is operating without the links he needs both behind him and up front. It wouldn't be surprising if he was a bit demotivated but even if he's playing a blinder I think it is going to be really hard for him to have an impact in these circs. He (or Warburton) may also be struggling to adjust his own role, to decide whether he needs to be the midfield playmaker or as No 10 on the edge of the box.
