Honestly, looks like a bottom half squad again so far. Too many at league one and two standard. But don't think we're far off.

First XI looks ok but injuries and suspensions are really going to hit us..

My choice would be..

Dieng (Lumley)
Kakay / Dickie / Barbet / Wallace
Ball / Carroll (Amos)
BOS / Chair / Manning
Dykes

3 of those are out of contract next season and might not be here by the time the transfer window shuts.

if I were Warburton I would be in the market for an attacking left winger, a striker on loan and a solid left back. Plus a defensive midfield general, as West London sport put it. Thomas and Smyth could cover AMR and AMC.

Not seen anything of Niko, Oteh or Shodipo to convince me that they're good enough at this level.

Bettache looks a great prospect and one for the future but perhaps needs season out on loan, the same with Gubbins.

For me we need an experienced centre back on loan. Shame we didn't get the Fulham lad we were after but there are others. I notice that the highly experienced Daniel Schwaab is without a club at the moment. 32 but a very decent player and has played number 5 at most clubs.

And we need another half decent striker on loan. Scott Hogan if the maths is right. Alternatively Jordan Rhodes isn't managing to hold down a place at Weds and we could probably get him for about a million, perhaps less. Experienced at this level and has in the past scored goals at Loftus Road for fun. He's suits our way of playing as well. Could be a move that sees him rediscover his goal mojo.

That's just not true. A goalkeeper gets his positioning at all times from his near post, much like a cricketer needs to know where his off stump is.
Was a near post goal again, and lumley was at least partially at fault.

Well, of course I see your point, bakerloo. But there is no true or untrue.

A goalie who overprotects his near post is just as culpable as a goalie who overprotects his far post.

Traditionally, goalie coaching has taught goalies to touch their near post and stay within a yard of it. I still agree with that. But only for narrow shots.

But the second goal yesterday was a shot from an angle where near/far post didn't apply IMHO. It was no longer a one-on-one situation, it was broken play, Kakay and Ball in turn had both stood off their men so as a goalie you protected as much of the goal as you could.

Whether Lumley could have done better on the shot is another debate, but if Lumley stuck to his near post for that shot there would have been an even bigger space on the the far post.

I thought his positioning was ok.

It's just a personal opinion.

Lumley is a serious weak link. The old "Joe didn't have a save to make but picked the ball three times" line could just as easily be "Joe didn't make a save and let in three goals". I thought he was at fault for the second, whether he could have done better for the others, I don't know. He does cost a lot of goals, though.

"knows the club" is a stretch, I wouldn't imagine there's anything about the club which is the same as when Camp was last here!

Loved camp when he was here but way past his best now.

Either Lumley or Dieng will sign a new contract. My gut feeling now is Dieng will go.

Could you not attribute some blame for the 3rd as well? Yes manning strolling as nouble ghosted past him but if not mistaken he took the volley inside the 6 yard box, is that now GK territory?

I questioned that as well. I felt he just stood and watched and that he could have at least come out to try and block or put the attacker under pressure.

I think losing Manning would definitely be a negative. Replacing him as a LEFT BACK however is another story

As Brian said above, its all opinions, but my view is we can cope with losing his attacking abilities, as its generally accepted, even without Eze, going forward isn't a problem with this squad, but conceding is - and the fact is, that he is very poor defensively.

I think the deficiencies outway the positives with him.

I think he definitely has value, Dave, because of many of the assets you mention (though I thought his crossing - as was the case for both teams - was below his usual high standard).

But I think his weakest point is his lack of desire to mark up. You call it concentration, and that's ok, but a certain amount of marking up and indeed tracking back is pure desire.

On the third goal yesterday the centre-backs rightly moved to their right as the ball was out wide on the right, Nouble moved on to Manning who had rightly moved infield. Then... he just left him. That's not concentration, which can cost you in quiet moments of the game when something happens out of nothing and you're caught for a milisecond of reaction time. This was simple - 2-2, late on, man-on-man marking, it's me or no-one else. And he just left him.

It's a recurring problem and it will follow him if he's moved to anchor, centre-mid, wide-left or anywhere else.

He has assets, yes. But he is a ship holed beneath the water because of that failing. And no-one, but no-one, can fix it but himself.

Much more eloquently put than me - as usual!

Is it really time to worry if we lose to Forest ?
We beat Stoke away first game of last year .Still finished where we normally do . We would have just 37 games to go ..

Early thoughts?

Still think we need...

AML
CM
Striker
LB, if Manning goes

Cameron hasn't added anything so far
Amos doesn't look like a number 10
Chair wasted on the left wing

There is no doubt that the squad needs strengthening. A striker and an experienced back up centre back, another midfielder if Bettache is to go and get regular first team football, on loan. They would be the priorities in my opinion.

The three players you mention and Wallace were all good against Forest but all had poor performances against Coventry. Many others were the same, Tom Carroll, for instance.

We can't be writing players off after one poor team performance. We have to work with what we have and try and add players that the manager wants, when we can attract and afford them.

This was my wish list before Coventry.

LB... Not sure Wallace would last all season based on his age and injury record. Haven't seen Niko to no if he can step up or not.

CM.... Thought Cameron should not have been given a new contract. Like the look of Bettache but feel we need a leader, general type.

AML... We don't have s natural left winger, who can beat a player.

Striker...Smyth, more a winger for me. Oteh, not good enough. Ramkilde....broken?

Keeper....Dieng needs a chance but needs a contract.

Since we're going for it and blooding youth/u23 prospects, might as well go for it:

Dieng
Kakay
Masterson
Dickie
Hamelainian
Ball/Cameron
Shodipo
Chair
BOS
Dykes

Shodipo signed a new contract a while ago so obviously MW likes him. Might as well see if he can do it in the Championship, if not then we can sell him as a player with Championship experience, same as Hamelainian. No point having these players around if they're not used and aren't up to standard.

Dykes for Hugill
Bonne for Wells
Amos for Eze
Wallace for Manning
Uncle for BOS
Dickie for Hall
Dieng for Lumley
Kakay for Rangel
Willock for Pugh
Thomas for Clarke

They really needed to hit the ground running.

It does beggar the question that given the extent of our injuries and the ultimate loss of BOS should we apologise to Charlton and recall Smyth now?

1. We can't until the window.
2. We are not short of strikers although the BOS situation has reduced us by one wide man.
3. It is central midfielders and for Cardiff, centre backs that we are short of.
