..1984 On a lighter note, lest we forget, today is the anniversary of QPR 5 - 5 Newcastle. We were still looking "OK" under Mullery up to this point though our one defeat was the 5 0 at Spurs the week before. I left that one early but not the 5 - 5 :-)
Someone I knew at the club those days got me the whole 90 mins on VHS and I still have it. He also got me the QPR vs WHU game where Pizanti scored a screamer.
I was fortunate enough to be there (and Spurs, but, that's another story). Apart from Chris Waddle scoring a fabulous goal in the first half, what was amazing was the way the team were cheered onto the pitch at the start of the second half after being booed off a few minutes earlier, and it was bedlam from then on. They scored almost straight away, and it just seemed inevitable then.
Even the Geordies were singing “you’ll never walk alone.”And 1 of them must have been so drunk he celebrated our 5th goal by jumping up and down.Unless he had a bet on 5-5 with the bookies.

Was also in the West Paddock that day, just hope the Lino put his kit in for a service-wash and did'nt bring home and try and get the Mrs to wash!
Great days to be a younger football supporter, think the younger lads today miss out on that atmosphere and match-day experience!
I was lucky enough to be there too, in the Ellerslie. Definitely the most amazing match I’ve ever attended. Waddle was amazing in the first half and tore us apart. Fantastic team spirit to come back in the second half. I was buzzing for a week after the game.

Speaking of money back...
One of my mates I sat with at the time, was going bonkers at HT. I popped up that I just couldn’t understand how we were losing having played so well and that if we scored early, I could see us turn this around.
To much laughter he replied: if we do that I’ll give you a week’s wages!
36 years later, my mate lives in Australia and when we catch-up I always ask when he thinks he’s going to pony up with my winnings?

First QPR game. Spurs supporter before. Watched from West Paddock but from half time drinking in the bar until we scored 2 more. One of my mates who brought me along to the game also moved to Australia soon after.
Yes remember being at this game, unbelievable comeback. Also remember the optimism going to the Spurs game at White Hart Lane the week earlier and that optimism draining away as they gave us a right old thumping. Alan Mullery what a plonker, relief when he got the push in December 84.
I seem to remember we nearly made it 6-5 in the last minute or so.QPR never gave up the game in those days.
I remember that too. A few more minutes and we would have won that game. Most amazing comeback. Portvale was also amazing but this game was perhaps the best because you just knew we were going to come back.
I was 10 and QPR barmy at the time - shirts (immo, obvs), duvet, posters, you name it and begged my mum to let me go with older mates. 5,000 passed geordies screaming around the (then) Metropolitan line between Kings Cross and the Bush knocked that one on the head. I watched on Ceefax and understood then that "doing a QPR" was an adverb like "Google it" has become. It was proper fùcking Zen for a 10 year old.
Glad to see others have admitted to flirting with Spurs as they had some team in '81 (Hoddle, Ardilles, Villa) - my mum has a Polaroid of a rather rotund me at 7 trying to be Glenn Hoddle in St. Marks Park somewhere in her big box of embarrassing photos back in Ireland. Nowadays I compare that phase to lobbing one off over Gemma Collins - you know it's wrong but animal instinct takes over and all you're left with is an empty feeling and a deep sense of shame.
