Nah. They are skint. And all the financial shenanigans have been tried.

They'd be bust if they hadn't sold Bogle and A N Other. Also let Marriot go
They've got a decent crop of youngsters but if the experienced heads are Matt Calrke, Waghorn and Lawrence they are in the sh1t.

It's more the fault of Weds today, golden opportunity to send Derby down. Typically they'll keep Rooney and be top 6 next year. Absolute sure thing.

Never knowingly right.

Shameful club should be embarrassed of themselfs, pretty pathetic season and deserve to be down.
Wednesday also deserve to be down but without the points deduction would be safe.
Rotherham and Wycombe playing with Derby’s christmas party budget just miss out on staying up .just finished bitching about the welsh teams input to keeping derby up then remembered we didn’t help by giving them 3 points at our place.
Oh well that’s football but as said, they will probably overspend and cheat their way to the play offs next season now,

will the EFL now decide the action derby have faced all season? the 3 relegated clubs should be banging doors down for the outcome, the owls had their punishment why not sodding derby?

Celebrate like they just won the league when in fact they only stayed up because of a late Cardiff equaliser.

The whole club is a total embarrassment

I must admit I was gutted when Cardiff equalised. Both Derby and Wednesday going down would have been a good result. Looking on the bright side, Derby are now more likely to retain Rooney's services as manager.

Yes I believe it was their only win in the last 12 matches. Just one more win and they would have stayed up. The Cardiff leveller was a double whammy, as it relegated Rotherham and meant Cardiff finished 8th instead of us.

New relegation threat emerges hours after Derby County save their Championship lives

The Rams avoided the drop to League One by the skin of their teeth after a 3-3 draw with Sheffield Wednesday but, according to the Sun on Sunday, they could be heading straight back into a fresh relegation battle next season.

Hours after securing their Championship status in a nerve-shredding last day relegation fight, it has emerged that Derby County could face a major setback to next season’s campaign.

That’s according to reports in the Sun on Sunday which claim the Rams could be hit with a points deduction running into double figures which, if implemented, would thrust Wayne Rooney’s side straight back into a survival fight from day one of the 2021/22 campaign.

SunSport says it understands an independent disciplinary appeal is ready to come down in favour of the EFL, who have refused to accept defeat in a cash row.

It says the dispute centres on the size of Derby’s debts and using the sale of their Pride Park stadium to cover those losses, as well as anomalies in the ‘transfer values’ of players.

The charges were dismissed by the first independent disciplinary commission in August 2020. However, with several other clubs angered by the outcome, the EFL appealed.

The report says both the league and the company used as the independent panel refused to comment.

However, SunSport claims sources say the decision had already been taken - but was kept secret as Derby fought for Championship survival.

Sun writer Alan Nixon says this was the same “hush, hush procedure” they used with Sheffield Wednesday in a similar case a year ago - and they announced the verdict after the season was over.

SunSport believes the EFL will now charge Derby for overspending across three season and the sanctions will be severe.

The points penalty will be decided by another independent disciplinary commission - and that means the punishment is not handed out this season.

But Mel Morris’ club could, the report insists, be hit with a points deduction next season that runs into double figures.

I completely agree with this. I couldn’t believe how their players and fans were celebrating, now I get it’s great to not get relegated obviously. But have a little more class considering how bad they have been especially the last eight games or so. Embarrassing.

I think that might be a bit harsh. I accept we all have some blinkers with Derby given the recent history and the whole Wazza thing but all clubs do that when they survive relegation.

I remember the enormous pitch invasion at LR after the 6-0 against Palace in 1999! And it was Gerry Francis saying straight after "Great day, but we shouldn't be celebrating avoiding relegation" or something similar.

At least we won to avoid relegation.
Derby stayed up by another team scoring in another game. I thought Waghorn's reaction was embarrassing. It's fine when you've stayed up by digging out a few wins in your last 5 or 6 games against the odds. Not when you've lost 6 in a row and then narrowly avoided defeat against the worst side in the division at home and only stayed up because of a fortunate draw somewhere else.

Bare bones.

there's no chance they hit Derby with a points deduction now. if there is one it'll be applied early next season like Wednesday's was.

can't say the supposed threat of legal action against the EFL from Wycombe will worry them much, they don't even have Lionel Hutz money

Just announced in the Athletic that the EFL have won the appeal. No penalty yet determined.

The Athletic saying that EFL want the penalty (whatever it is) applied this season.

If they give them the 6 that Wednesday got, Wycombe stay up.

Interesting week ahead.

As mentioned earlier by someone else, there is virtually zero chance of the EFL applying a points deduction now.The season has finished and the legal battle would drag on for months, possibly until the new season starts.
