Sounded a good game on the radio. Pity the EFL don’t allow streams in this cup.

Good luck in the league

After running Dykes, Chair and our defenders into the ground, having a linesman take away a clear game-winning goal, and seeing our top players do so poorly in the shootout, we have to pick it up again for a crucial match in three days time on a Sky Fridayin front of a home crowd that will probably be very on edge.

Optics don’t look too good. Would be a true show of character if we came away with all three points .

Absolutely we could criticise the penalty takers for letting that awful decision get to them, instead of getting on with it and thinking about the lino's face on a dartboard later, but the fact remains that we gave as good as we got against a fired up side riding high in the league and ready to play in the championship next season, and literally did enough to win the game with a goal that had no business being disallowed. So I am not going to hear any criticism of the players' performance over the 90 minutes, nor of Warburton's decisions before and during the game.

I’m somewhere in the middle. I thought we deserved to win overall and the disallowed goal was a disgraceful decision. It was clearly onside and the lino buckled under a bit of desperate pressure from the Sunderland players.

But let’s be honest our penalties were very poor. It looked like our players were resigned to losing and wanted it done as each penalty was rushed. A bit more composure and mental strength required to overcome the set back of the disallowed goal.

Hopefully this is the low point of our season and not the start of us completely unravelling. We need to regroup and go again on Friday. Keep the faith!

Doesn’t matter, we scored a legitimate goal. Sunderland were unable to. I’m more pi$$ed off about the disallowed goal than the penalty shoot out.

Don't think it was legitimate. Austin a yard off side.

I wish we would stop using that word. We're in October.

Exactly this! Stop playing into the hands of excuse-mongers and driving expectations down. On the other hand, do just that, and we can just piddle around in the middle of the Champ and keep letting the fans down against the likes of Fulham/Peterborugh/WBA every season.

If ths team is tired this soon, even after it's been rotated, they can't call themselves professionals. I didn't see any signs of tiredness in the Sunderland team.

I am at an utter loss to understand that excellent clutch of penalties vs Everton, and that sorry shower (Dykes apart) tonight. It really looked like self-sabotage. Barbet and Chair, in particular, should hang their heads in shame tonight, though Stroud should slit his wrists.

Poll: What will be our upcoming/final points tally? (8 games to go)

Not a bad game mate - nothing special. Good luck to you.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Warburton out-thought not for the first (or last) time.

Sunderland were an awful side who we should of been put to bed before pens

Played the wrong side and two up top doesn't work

They are decent mate. We are not anywhere near the races at the moment.

I thought you looked quite handy. Hard to break down (first team to stop us scoring in 20 odd games) and had a few moments going forward. I could see you lot holding your own in the Championship.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

This. Thought Sunderland were decent enough.

That was with only one of our back four and keeper who would normally start as well

I'm honestly confused about how he could call Austin offsides. There was a defender basically in the goal

Lino stopped us scoring rather than Sunderland

He is technically offside I think, because the Sunderland player is behind the keeper. As there isn't a player between Charlie and the keeper he is off. One of these weird rules that I remember.
I've not been arsed to google or check it, so don't shoot the messenger!

Even with the two up top nonsense I thought we were the better side bar 15 mins and Sunderland were playing for Pens all game

Peterborough and Hull were far better sides and they will struggle next season if they do manage to get promoted

Not seen it, but the rule is two players behind the ball to be on side.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned that Albert’s show was also blocked by a handball.

You are right, I withdraw that. When its slowed down its clear it was onside so we should have had the goal so apologies.

That said, don't think we did enough to deserve to win.
