Dune. 08:49 - Apr 22 with 5712 viewsDiscodroids

I've had covid for 10 days and have been knocked bandy watching 'Benidorm bargain brits abroad' on rotation, while comatose on the chesterfield. Feel like i have shot up Jalalabad skag cut to fu ck with Steradent denture powder .

anyway, was Overjoyed to see 'Dune' on sky.

Massive let down, All the acting skills of Bobby Davro at Clacton pier playing the spoons.

The bloke playing paul atreides looks like a cross between barry george and colin stagg, Puny.

The Lynch version, for all its faults, is on another level. On top of being ill and foolishly drinking a ton of bitburger last night , it's put me in a worse mood than John Wayne Gacey mooching outside leif garretts californian apartment all night waiting to go down his bins for his used tanga briefs.

Right load of old crap. Just waiting for Hugh grant to ride a spice worm.

The spice did not flow. at all.

'the many saints of newark' was a load of old tom tit as well. Rant over.

Rant on, maestro. I'm also baffled by the Timothee cult, you wouldn't back him to get the top off a jar of confiture. The woman from the Timotei shampoo ads would make a more convincing action hero.

I dunno Mr Sheen.. it might be the virus making me feel like i've been on the end of a Roberto Duran uppercut after dropping a Zoot Money embossed black bomber, but it's a disgrace to the book and Lynch film.

The baron was clearly based on Brando's Col Kurtz only with less gravitas than a Michael Bentine pottyman. Duncan idaho ffs.. Richard Jordan v Jason Momoa... leave it out.

tbh i'm just feeling sorry for myself and feel like a good miidle aged moan up.

I bet its better than Star Trek Picard/Discovery.

Shame because the first series of Discovery I enjoyed and most of the second. The third ...lol.
Apparently it wasn't about the show, it was about "The message". If you saw the dude in charge who said that you'd know he was a wrong 'un just by looking at him.

Jeri Ryan still looking nom nom at 54 though in Picard.

Might still watch Dune though.

Anyone tried Outer Range on Prime yet?
Run down family ranch? OK
Horseys and cowboy hats? Very good
Evil neighbour trying to steal their land? Of course
Pisshead rodeo-rider son? I suppose
Cute little girl who misses Mommy? If you insist
Enormous hole to another galaxy? Sorry, what?

Saw it at the cinema last year, had successfully put it out of mind, it’s utter shite.

Hope you feel better soon, if you want a bit of a sci-fi to cheer you up, watch Galaxy Quest.

Don't say that mate.. we agree on loads of stuff... you have great taste in film and music as well as being a witty git. I probably need to watch it again with a clear head.

This covid has kicked the living shit out of me, feel totally drained . No energy at all. bit worrying to be honest. Poor old sod.

Totally agree - big let down. Looks great and the techy stuff is pretty good BUT all the history and complex societal structure that are integral to the author’s vision are condensed into a blur, whilst the layers of political, religious, ecological and technological allegory that give the novel such exalted status get mulched in a terribly thin, superficial screenplay (have these people actually read it all? or are they not clever enough or simply unwilling to transfer it to screen?) - far too much of the dialogue could have been written by George Lucas, which is fine if you're 12 years old but I was hoping for so much more. Meanwhile, far, far too much of the latter stages of the film are dominated by Star Wars / James Bond style chase scenes which are both predictable and mind-numbingly tedious, whilst the sadly inevitable Lord of the Rings style portentous, subtle-as-a-flying-mallet score is among the most intrusive I've heard for many a moon. Only part one, of course, but if it's going to be more of the same then I'll be sensing a big missed opportunity here.

I think my dune thread has mutated into me feeling sorry for myself. I was so ill yesterday i couldn't meet my sister Abi at the crooked billet for our late dads East Ham Daves birthday for cockles, jellied eels and dressed crab.

I'm right under pressure to get back to work as well dave... ffs.. Jo's laid out with it too.

no fun.

I likes both versions of Dune.
There was a film to be made before either of these as below. Sounds mad.

I have seen the documentary, its really good.

Mate,

so sorry to hear that.

I was stuck on flights last week and tried to watch both films you mentioned. Gave up on each one as being awful about half way through and switched to watching repeat episodes of Top Gear. Whilst also nonsense it at least wasn't trying to take itself seriously and I didnt need to devote much concentration to watch it.

Never knowingly understood

It has divided opinion for sure, i have a few fellow true believers but also some pals that are baffled by my love for the new one.

And I totally empathise - I didn't lose the brain fog until about a fortnight after I recovered, and still getting periods of breathlessness 4 months later. Rest up and get those fluids on board

I thought the new Dune was very good and looking forward to pt2.

What I did think was garbage was the latest Bond movie, No Time to Die. Just meh! 3 Hours of my life I begrudge losing

we'd be here all day if I started listing all my gripes with No Time To Die. Was kinda fun up until Cuba (Ana de Aramis best thing in the film) but after that it's a dour mess that makes no sense

I watched Dune a couple of months ago, really disappointed with it & I was pretty bored actually.

Get well soon Glenn.
I watched Dune at the cinema and thought it was really good. Better than a lot of big blockbuster films around these days. It definitely needs a 2nd viewing though and was waiting for the TV release. Will give it another watch over the weekend probably. .

Occasional providers of half decent House music.

Sorry to hear about your illness.

For Dune I said this when it came out and everyone was raving about it on here.
Essentially while it's well shot and has good actors in it, it is really very very boring. The previous movie was better and that wasn't all that.

While the directorial landscape shots are awesome and the 2001 type space images are great, the plot and directorial acting of the whole movie is a complete yawnfest really.

Timothée Chalamet can be a decent actor with the right direction.
Here in the Netflix film The King: https://www.netflix.com/title/80182016

He does a great job and this is a much more interesting film with some great acting performances. With Sean Harris, Joel Edgerton (who also co-wrote it), Robert Pattinson (who I usually dislike is good here too) and more.

You can tell they can act, as one of the actors is very bad and that is Lily-Rose Depp (Timmy is going out with her apparently) who is clearly out of her depth compared to the rest. This shows the contrast in acting skills as she use wooden compared to the rest.

As a film, it's a great story as well.

I fear Dune Pt2 will be more of the same yawn fest.

zzzzzzzzzz

Here's the guvnor when it comes to leading cults:

Get well soon, Disco.

I haven't seen "Dune" but there is no way it could possibly be as entertaining as the reviews on here.

PS: Does Sting get a cameo in it like in the first one?

I've had "long Covid" now since March 2020 and it periodically drains one of energy so severe that taking the day off is a must. In fact it's only the hope of dying that's keeping me alive.

Don't like remakes of classic SF so I'm stuck in bed currently with a nice box set of the original Outer Limits (the 1995 remake was cobblers),a litre bottle of Scotch on the bedside table, cheese 'n onion crisps ad lib.
Inspiration for The Terminator.
