Going to see Kim Wilde tonight in Westcliff, Southend . I literally have less than zero interest in going but promised 'er indoors i would go when the tickets were booked back in December.
I know two of her records. 'kids in America' and 'Cambodia'. I've had a face on like Nelly pledge all afternoon. Bollocks.
As a Beacon of Hope, has anyone been to a gig they were dreading but turned out ok?

Was persuaded by my ex (of Russian origin) to go with her to see a touring Russian operatic company performing Yevgeny Onegin at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. What made it even worse was that there was no "set" as such, it was just these 5 Ruskies belting it out standing at the front of the stage.
Oh my, it was awful. So much so that I made my excuses (well, not so much an excuse, I simply told the truth) at half time and went to sit in the car while she went back in for Part Two |  | | |

Van Morrison in The Point in Dublin.
Love his music, but I can't stand the miserable hoor himself. I knew he could be awful live and I'd gotten to the stage of begrudging him my rolled up tenner.
Anyway, it was a group thing and I bowed to pressure. The grumpy bastard played nothing but skiffle shÃte and didn't speak to his audience once. Not once. It fell to Richie Buckley to introduce all the tunes and to say thanks after every song for the ever decreasing applause. I stayed 'til the end cos I fancied one of our crew. The gig got worse and the woman wasn't interested in me either. |  |

A mate of mine persuaded me to see Devo at the Hammersmith Odeon. Awful. About an hour of them on a video screen and about 20 minutes of them playing live. Plus loads of fans dressed like the band hopping up and down the aisles.
Made the mistake of taking my girlfriend who didn't speak to me for days after, so that was a silver lining  |  | | |

A bit of hope for you disco. I went to see a band once who were friends of friends. Anyway they were support act for the Hoosiers that night and we got there early to see my friends friends band. We were thinking about leaving before the main act but decided to stay for another beer.
The Hoosiers came on, it was a while after they were famous and was their last ever gig or something because some of the band were leaving to do other things. It was a bit corny as you’d expect but they were really good. They rattled through all the ‘hits’ with aplomb.

Mrs Ted organised a family get together way back when, all her side are Irish and she got ten tickets to see the Irish band Clannad.
I duly picked up one of her sisters and her husband in me car and we all met up at the foyer. I was dreading It.
We were bloody stuck right in the middle of a row half way back in the auditorium.
I struggled through the first two songs listening to and watching the lead singer singing to us all about herself being in love with a tree or a mountain or some such bolox and when the second song finished I got up and walked out much to the annoyance of everyone in our row.
When everyone came out at half time Mrs Ted found me in the foyer and asked me what was wrong and I said "It's shit It's doing me head In" she mumbled at me about coming back In but I didn't.
When It finished and they all came out we drove home and I had to listen to Mrs Ted, her bloody Sister and her Husband all waffling on about what a lovely evening they had.
For the following week Mrs Ted treated me to a picture with no sound. |  |

I went to see Raiding the Rock Vault which is an assembly of old timers singing old classics from Black Sabbath AC/DC. Not my normal speed but it was bloody marvellous. Absolutely fantastic musicianship as the band members had played with the original bands. It was absolutely stonking and I knew more songs than I thought and danced my little socks off.
Brian that woman clearly doesn’t recognise class.
I have seen Van a couple of times when he’s on form and singing the classics but it’s a gamble admittedly. Annoying when he decides to go off piste. |  | | |

INXS at Wembley Arena late 80's. Ticket was free so I went. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Airborne, who had won a TV talent show, at The Hambrough Tavern, Southall. It was so bad a fight broke out with an audience member wearing the edge of a bass guitar on the side of his head and the barman getting glassed.
