Nonsense, game was there for the taking. West ham couldn’t even keep the ball on the pitch, horrible cynical team as well.

Stupid stupid managerial decisions interrupting our stability, cohesion and shape then allowing Bowen to have the ball which is all they had and all they ended up doing.

Stupid stupid to give them that penalty as well in the 94th minute. 94th.

This is a professional football match for fcuks sake not a dress rehearsal.

Agreed, this subbing players out because they need to be looked after and replacing them with players who then get injured themselves, is a head scratcher to say the least. Paul Smyth and Boy Kemper were fantastic. Kemper had Bowen in his pocket and Smyth was causing them problems all match. Lamptey you just knew when he over stretched for a ball, he was done and Vale just didnt get going at all. And then, when you need calm heads, Mbengue is the last player you need coming on.

Having said that, before the game, Id have taken a draw all week and twice on Sunday.

The first half was our best 45 minutes this season.....we were 'proper'. We made West Ham look very average indeed.

Second half West Ham were a little better & we did not play as well although I thought that we looked reasonably comfortable.

Then JS struck and replaced, arguably, our best two players in Boy & Smyth and disrupted the team in doing so. Boy looked totally relaxed all game and he takes him off for Lamptey - that is a 'rubbish' decision. Guess what Lamptey got injured very soon and we are then in real trouble. Vale, who JS thinks is good (he isnt) replaced Smyth a thorn in West Ham's side all night (think he had a slight knock but could have carried on) and failed to support defensively down the left. They equalised, subs on, etc, etc.

Overall, I am proud of the boys, they can hold their heads high.

Many 'proper' performances from the boys but the keeper has to be the winner.

FFS. Smyth had clearly taken a knock and was hobbling when taken off. I'm amazed with your inside medical knowledge of Smyths injury that he could have stayed on.

Kemper has not played for 2 months and with Cirkin suspended we need a LB.

Not like the old days when proper men played 50 games in a season blah blah blah.

Not really as we’re playing on Wednesday and Saturday. You can’t overplay fast players like Smyth and Burrell as they get injured more easily. Plus he was taking a battering. Obviously in an ideal world we would’ve been able to play Kemper and Smyth for 90 minutes. But Stephan has to look at the bigger picture. Blame the mental fixture list.

On paper, if someone before the match had spelt out our plan for substitutions I’d have said, sounds about right.

Yet, once the match is in play, I’d be looking at that piece of paper and think maybe I should consign it to the bin.

We talk about loading, I get it, but Kemper comes from a part of the world where the engine is built to last. His previous injury was getting trapped under a bad tackle, that’s not the same as a player who’s always feeling his hamstrings.

As been said, he had the best player in the league in his pocket. Basically, you keep him there.
To me, that could have gone down as one of the worst substitutions of all time.

Aside of that, I have some sympathy for the manager. Smyth had taken a lot of tackles, you’d expect Vale to be better than that, he was awful, and I have a lot of time for him. Bowen didn’t foul him, why on earth he stayed down I don’t know, it wasn’t a good look given the effort everyone had put in.

Kolli had grown into the game, he needs to get his head round the fact this is not a development game, don’t give the ball up in such a cavalier fashion. Kone when he’s tiring, fair enough. But then another one who needed to be better once in the game.

Adamson brilliant. Think he cramped, so Mbengue dropping in at RB made sense, but no manager can countenance his brain dead contribution, particularly at the end.

Finally Lamptey, one stretch, unchallenged and game over. Sometimes, when a team tears up a players contract, you look at the circumstances and think with your head not your heart.

Who’d be a manager?

Good result.
Lots of positives to talk about. Boy Kemper and Smyth were excellent as was highlighted by what happened when they came off. That left side just evaporated.
We look a proper team atm. Great to see Jake Clark Salter finally stringing some games together and making a real impact in this team. Not as gung ho as Dunne, but just as efficient in defence.
Some of the football we played, was a joy to see, one touch as they pinged it around WHam.
Shame Burrell was injured as I think he would have stretched their defence more then Kolli, who didnt have his best game. If he scores that shot from the edge of the box, that would justify all the clamour to get him in the team. For me, he didn't do enough. Struggled holding the ball up, and knocked the ball back to opposition too many times. But its a tough ask, to just come back into the team against a decent West Ham side. So perhaps I shouldn't be too critical.
Pierce Charles is the standout of course. His distribution is top class , made an important fingertip save down to his right, Cryuffs one of their pressing forwards and that penalty double save to keep us in the game and in the top 6 was a superb moment for him and QPR.
Yeh the subs didnt work in the slightest, and nearly cost us the game. But I really like this squad, and I think JS has improved us overall. Decent manager. Let the good times roll.
And Kamara is the real deal. Really important we had him there last night. Great call by the club to re call him back from international duty.

You say you get it about loading and then you say that he should’ve kept Kemper on which shows that you don’t. He’s just back after missing most of the season so far. I think it was positive he managed to play sixty minutes after so long off. Also he’s in the past been off with an Achilles tendon injury where he missed over a hundred days of football so not Superman after all.

With our injury issues over the last few seasons we’re crazy if we encourage the manager to actually ignore medical and physio advice. I’m pleased Stephan isn’t a Beale kind of tw*t who destroys players like Willock by ignoring medical advice just to further his own career.

It’s no surprise to me that Burrell got injured on international duty where they’re probably not managing his minutes like we are doing now. I get it’s frustrating but I think we should get behind the medical teams as they’re trying to get our players to maximise minutes across a whole season.

Lets see if Smyth is fit for Wednesday?? Most players play with knocks. Boy was comfortable all night long and should not have been replaced......its a 'f'ing mans game & not for sissies!!! One game at a time, stop concerning about future matches, get your best team out to win the match.

If neither are fit then that is why we have a squad & when we can introduce young players to the squad

Im not sure on the Kemper sub. I get what you are saying with managing players injuries, but as Lamptey proved, its actually impossible to know. You just have to trust the players. Was Kemper an injury prone player when we signed him.?
We all know the old skool method of managing injury prone players in the past, basically, they dont train during the week and then get them on the pitch for as long as possible on a Saturday. I completely get things have improved. But to jeopardise the game, just so the medic team can tick some boxes goes too far the other way, imo. Willock comparison is an exception. Smyths subbing made sense, Boy Kemper less so. To stick on Lamptey as Kempers replacement proved you cant rely on the medic team, to get results on the pitch. Surely you do those assessments during the week, not during a championship football match.?

Digging in nonsense as usual. Never, ever accepting opposite views. No chance of changing your views, is there?

If the manager had left Kemper on and he had broken down and missed future games, especially with Cirkin banned, he would have been hammered. If Smyth had stayed on he would have had less chance of being fit for upcoming matches. If Scarlett has to start on Wednesday, you will be the first to moan.

FFS get real.

But the problem is, Nix, the players are getting injured anyway. If our loading was working and we kept everyone fit by limiting their minutes, then that would be fine, because we would be replacing fully fit players, with other fully fit players of an equal calibre. But managing their load is not working, we are STILL losing key players and dropping points. Last night was a classic example , we took off the fully fit Kemper, who made Bowen look anonymous, and replaced him with Lamptey, who did god only knows what damage to himself first time he stretched for the ball. Then because we had used up all our subs (or sub windows) he had to stay on as a virtual passenger, doubtless aggravating whatever he had injured - where’s the sport science in that?
There are times when you are absolutely right, we need to manage a player’s minutes, but there are times when JS - who overall is doing a great job - has to use his gut instinct and say, ‘no I am over-ruling our earlier discussion , Kemper stays on’. If it blows up in his face and Kemper picks up a long term injury then so be it, that what he gets paid the big bucks for. But instead of that MAYBE happening to Kemper it HAS happened to Lamptey - and we have dropped to points in the process.

2 things amaze me here

1) How many had written us off before knowing the side or a ball being kicked - And one idiot pulls me up because I just want a decent performance and not fussed about the result.

2) How many people feel they know better than medically qualified people - because either that's the way it used to be or they want to see their favourite player for the whole match.

Some here need to get a grip and well done to the OP, I really felt we had a possible chance. We are a VERY well disciplined side compared with previous seasons and JS has got us playing quality football. If taking Boy and Smyth off last night get us 6 points in the next 2 games I will take it as I am sure many here will

Sorry but I disagree Myke. I think Stephan has bought into the medical advice and is following it because he doesn’t want to see us losing players like we did last season.

Yes we’re losing players to injuries but that’s partly due to the mental fixture list - we’re having to play players more than once in four days because we have no choice with back to back three game weeks - and partly because we’re taking them out with a niggle so it doesn’t become a full blown major issue. Players like Lamptey are always going to be a gamble so I’m not expecting a full season from him but if we can manage Kemper and Adamson while Cirkin is suspended then we should be fine going forward.

I’m really glad Stephan listens to the medical staff rather than the fans. If you’d be willing to lose Kemper all season just to get two extra points then we’re never going to agree, so we’ll agree to disagree on this. Personally I think injury management is the single thing that will make or break our season and although we’ll lose people anyway because of the daft fixture list I’d prefer it was for that than stupidly over-playing people coming back from injury.

Sorry, don’t agree on this one.

You stop Bowen you pretty much stop West Ham. Kemper had done that, Bowen hadn’t had a sniff.

As for Lamptey, he’s not a left back. If you’ve watched Bowen, he’s lapped that scenario up his whole career. He’s scored that type of goal over and over again. Show him inside and he kills you.

It’s cost us two points, Lamptey probably out for another 3 months.

They didn’t have a shot untill they scored. The system broke down with the subs not doing the same roles as the players changed. Diagonal balls to Bowen started happening because they weren’t closed down for example.

Kone just wanted to get into it with someone and got disconnected from the team and schooled unlike kolli who was nullifying there build out play.

Players that came on seemed to just do what they wanted or didn’t know what to do. That’s my point

Tyler on QPR+ was also concerned for Kemper for a minute or two during the game , he was struggling with something physical. He didn't elaborate and they were probably on a a minute long focus of someone in the stands at the time.

Except I didn’t say any of that. Obviously from a playing viewpoint I’d have kept Kemper on. No one is saying any different.

We were talking about player loading when you’ve got yet another three day week. And unless you put on here before Lamptey went on that he was bound to get injured then it’s just the benefit of hindsight. What if Kemper had got injured or couldn’t play on Wednesday? Medicine isn’t an exact science and yet you’re expecting it to be. It doesn’t work like that. Players can be injury free if they carry on playing or get injured even if their minutes are managed. All you can do is maximise the chances of being injury free and minimise the chances of the injuries by being careful with their loading and that’s what we’re doing.

Great draw tonight... on 12:05 - Oct 10 with 726 viewsBAWHoops

Kemper not played for 2 months and we have a game on Weds with our other LB suspended. You 100% take him off on 60

Smyth only ever does 60. That's why he's effective. Runs into the ground and then rests up. Also had picked up a knock

Kolli hasn't played in 6 months and had stopped holding the ball up

All the subs made sense to me, if we didn't have to do them I doubt he would've removed Boy and Smyth.
Lampety with an all time bad QPR sub appearance though. Lost his man and then got injured when we couldn't make any more subs.

Love Kone, but my word he looks out of shape

This whole debate about injuries, played loads etc would be irrelevant if that Penalty would have gone in.

You don’t play expectations or reputations in football, you play what’s in front of you and they were there for the taking.
