Goodbye Boleyn film...one day this will be us. 23:47 - May 8 with 4421 viewsHadders

We all know that some West Ham fans are horrible, racist oiks, and this is blatantly sentimental, but I think it`s also a beautifully crafted little film, which many fans of other clubs might relate to. I dread the day we leave our fleapit. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/may/06/west-ham-olympic-stadium-move-up

I'm sure the horribly racist oik contingent at QPR will shed the odd tear in their beer when we move to 'the promised land'.

Avoiding the Alf Garnet cliche of being born a Meryvn Day goal kick from the Boleyn in 1967 and seeing the top of the old North Bank from my Bedroom window , Both my Maternal Grandads were buried in their West Ham blazers and ties . The first Ground and thus football match i ever went to in 1974.

I know for a fact my 71 year old dad , East Ham Dave, is feeling hollowed out this morning. He wont be alone. I remember most the Scarves on wrists , the huge CLyde Best and the smell of rolling tobacco and Dead Hamburger meat which seemed bleedin' well exotic and scary to a 7 year old.

Knees up muvva Brown,Under the Table you must go . that Video choked me up a bit if truth be told.Thank for posting it.

ps. i never thought something published in the Guardian would move me to tears for all the right reasons .

pps ..Imo i dont think West Ham fans are any more racist than any other collective of football fans. Just a sample drawn from the plasma pool of life..

Club prejudices aside, it's a great shame that another iconic football ground is confined to the bulldozers. In a thousand years time, what will our descendants have to remember to 20th century by?

The 4 nil win with sir les running colin foster ragged all afternoon was a joy. I also Remember Micheal Robinson missing an open goal and nearly hittting the corner flag with his effort.

Im not sure it was Robinson, my skin tight electric blue lois jumbo cords and Ellesse Trackie top had to be surgically removed as it as causing hypoxia.

got to agree, call me an old romantic but there was something special about seeing lit floodlights from a housing estate
love upton park, yeah it was a bit rough and ready and the natives had a certain edge to them but that's what football should be about , different characters , different grounds
all of these new grounds look the same to me not a housing estate or a couple of local pubs in site, tragic really
give me Highbury, upton park, filbert street, fratton park , the Dell, griffin park, loftus road , the cottage , and the old Wembley all day long
as for OP calling our ground a flea pit , you sure your a QPR fan ?

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

My 'Grandad', my Maternal Grandads twin brother took me to Loftus road in 1977 for a home game vs Everton. He was born in Acton and stayed there until his death in 1986.

I just wanted to be different and stuck with QPR and grew to love the fukers. Caused a lot of grief for a while , and even to to this day i still get ribbed about it when i go to the west ham supporters club for a pint with dad and some of my old school mates.

I still call the area home even though i left in 1988. If anyone knows a Black lad called Andrew Rose, A qpr regular for over 30 years, on here i went to school with him in east ham and he was the only other QPR fan i knew for many years.

First foremost and forever more, im QPR.

Horrible memory of watching us from a caged away terrace. Fenced in front, side and above. Vowed never to go back there after that. I did, of course .

They never really saw us as rivals and so it always felt safer to go there than most other London grounds.

I have a feeling that the Olympic Stadium will not quite be the financial masterstroke that it first appears (unless you are Mr Gold or Mr Sullivan).

Similar to me disco, my mums family all lived in the area, went to a fair few games there in the late 70's early 80's, my dad hated his mother in law (my nan) so when my mum wanted to visit he made sure west ham was at home, stood on the chicken run with my uncles.
Living in Bracknell though all my mates were qpr and once I was old enough to go to games parentless I ended up at Loftus rd.
The ironic thing now is my new girlfriend lives about 100 yards from the Boleyn, get a few funny comments and looks when my tattoo gets clocked when I'm having a pint in the Boleyn pub.

I know you enjoy a crafty pint in the Boleyn these days Loftboy with your new lady , ive got my spies out !. I used to drink in the Green Man or the Wakefield If my mates dragged me along for a game. Sadly no longer there. The Boozer in queens road market 'The queens ' is known as 'the painted turd' by locals. The Black lion in plaistow, one stop before upton park is the best pub in the area. Funny you should mention the chicken run , not very pc but my Long departed uncle George was known as chicken run George for his 3o odd years on the Chicken run smoking his waccybaccy .

Anyway, its turning into Cilla Blacks 'surprise surprise' this thread, but i will miss the Boleyn , and more importantly, it characters .

My east end two-penneth...

My old man (God rest his soul) was originally from the Bush area, but grew up in 'nam and took me to loads of West Ham games in the 70s as he had a season ticket given to him as he was a Ref/Linesman. He was lino at Booby Moore's testimonial in 1970 when about 15,000 Jocks descended on Upton Park and I saw him run the line or ref at loads of testimonials thereafter and games at Chadwell Heath.

I went to Wembley in 1975 when they beat Fulham but always was Rangers and hated it when we lost to West Ham as all the kids at school ripped the p**s out of me , but when we won it was heaven...

I have a lot of affection for the place and most of my mates from back in the day are Irons (in the Footballing sense!). I went to West Ham v Villa a while ago as my last visit to the place. Real shame to see it go.

1979-80, Bob Hazell's bullet-header of an own goal gave them the win in the last 10 minutes and the whole ground erupted in a gleeful chorus of "Nice one N*gg*r, nice one son!". I thought the 30 stops on the District Line had taken me to another country.

"West Ham will be selling off seats from the Boleyn Ground for £50 each plus a host of other items in a big auction."

Yeah good luck with that - if it was Loftus Road I'd be taking my seat with me when I leave and I don't think I'd be alone

I am a little puzzled by your post MrSheen. Was this so unusual in 70s London?

The thing about the racists of the time is that they did not get into endless debates about whether they were racist or not, or try to present themselves as victims, or try to dream up ingenious ways of raising the issue of race without explicitly mentioning race. They were proud of being racist.

That was my first game too Disco. Bob Latchford with 2 diving headers if memory serves me right.

Even though we lost 5-1, I was hooked.
