One more drink your sailing away ... 10:25 - Jun 4 with 9525 viewsDiscodroids

During Lockdown, i've noticed my alcohol intake  rise,  and perhaps for two days of the  week,  waking up with my head feeling like a smeg 800 watt dough beater and suffering   Promtheus Plume reflux.

Being Autobahn Straight and true, i've been on 45-50 units a week, drinking 5 days a week, up from around 30 units over 3 drinking days a week, pre lockdown. Thus i'm currently over 3 times higher than The Chief Medical Officers guidlines of 14 units per week.

It's still less units than my pointless  existence as a Lloyds of London pin stripe shocktrooper in the 90's and noughties, but still Reckless for a 52 year old bloke with the internal organs of William Burroughs, Although i can't imagine Burroughs began his Dirty booze ulysses odyssey like me, In the Golden Fleece Manor park in 1983 with a pint of Double Diamond.

I found myself more or less in the same mould as Adrian Chiles in his Booze doc, 'Drinkers like me'.

Amen Disco.

At least with the pub I had to make the effort to move out of the house. Now there’s crates in the bedroom, fridge full.

Daytime drinking, nighttime drinking. Anytime drinking.

And then the voices in my head become the voices of complete bollocks.

Still being disciplined with only weekend drinking but Sunday has taken over from a couple in the afternoon to still at it at 10pm with music still blaring out

One thing that has changed is the quality I’m now drinking , now I’m at home and “working” I can go to beer websites and start browsing, I’ve had crates of sagres , Estrella Galicia , Peroni red
Instead of the usual Sh1t like carlsberg , San Miguel , coors
I’ve even taken to brewing my own but to be fair it tastes like something out of the bogs at HQ

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I think thats (one) of my problems. Kidding myself that drinking Quality craft lagers from micro brewery's in fu cking Hook Norton and Pilsners brewed under german purity laws , are less damaging and superior than Carling, Carslberg and Fosters, just because it has a label on the back of the bottle that reads like Samuel Pepys wrote it.

It's like the square mile Venture capitalist Skulling Off the rock chisel from the cistern in trap 3 of the Lamb Tavern leadenhall market shithouse, looking down at the twinset lonsdale Plaistow rock 'n' roller Chasing dirty brown grains on tesco tin foil with a nesquick straw.

Fu ck Knows . Booze , what a bastard.

I’m going to wait until pubs return to “normal” the first week they open is going to be like England winning the World Cup & Black eyed Friday all rolled into one
Plus if it’s going to be 2 pints only or one in one out then il give it a swerve

I was a big fan of William Burroughs after reading Junky, probably forty years ago. From memory he believes in the addictive personality.

He also has a cameo in one of my favourite movies, Gus Van Sant's Drugstore Cowboy.

Not sure what the answer is on the booze as we're all stuck in all day. Maybe just get out more. I just try to stick to online sessions at the weekends.

Same here with The Pav, Dave.

It’s all boarded up and I get the feeling it may never be unboarded.

Weird though, there’s graffiti on it with the Rangers badge and The Clash, Boomtown Rats and Cat Stevens. Old fashioned vandals around these parts.

Drinking 5 days a week Glenn? Good grief man I'm on 7 days a week these last 12 weeks since lockdown began, albeit with the mysterious and many lagers from Aldi. Pull yourself together man and get on it bruv ;-)

I don't that's something you can get away from. When I stopped smoking I knew I could never be an occasional smoker.

Maybe it's finding the right thing to be addicted to. In The Grass Arena Healy switches his addiction from alcohol to chess.

Since the Lockdown I keep topping up my lager stocks like Colonel Kurtz collects Skulls .

I check stock levels every few days and think to myself 'ahh f uck, i'm down to my last 6o bottles, i must buy 24 cans of Basecamp pilsner with the Mittelfruh and Saaz hops from Ocado'.

Had to limit myself to Thursday to Saturday cos I can't handle the depressive moods on top of being stuck in the house.

Something really perverse about just getting roaring drunk in your own gaff that's both depressing and immensely exciting

My late old mans Best Friend Ken the choo choo, hasn't missed a days drinking since the mid 70's. Since Lockdown he hasn't had a single drink as he 'doesn't hold with indoors drinking' . He's painted every inch of his Walton on the naze house 3 times over keeping busy.

No liquor for me on school nights and I've been eating well, sleeping well and doing lots of fitness work.

But I've been enjoying Fridays and Saturdays, sponsored by wine and cheese and plenty of 'em.

Fugg it. Only middle-aged once.

Same here Brian.

If you don't include a couple of drinks on a Thursday.

And quite a few on a Sunday. My wife insists on it.

Suffering since 1978.

I try to limit my drinking to Friday and Saturday only, though it frays around the edges. Between me, Mrs Sheen and two and sometimes three thirsty kids between 17 and 21 in the house, I'm surprised the council haven't surcharged our recycle bin. Thoroughly sick of the beer selection at our local Tesco and Waitrose, I can't wait for a pint of draught anything. If the government announced the pubs would be reopening in ten minutes, I'd be there five minutes early.

The art of silently placing empties in the glass recycling bin has been redefined these past three months!

Every Monday morning, I vow not to drink during the week, by 2pm I am thinking about what to drink later that evening.
I have manged to contain my thirst until between 5 and 6pm except Friday through to Sunday, what’s the point of having a weekend if you treat it the same as a weekday, although weekdays are the same at the moment, I am disciplined.
Bottles go to the bottle bank, cans are crushed for the recycling, which means you can get dozens more cans in without anyone noticing.
