I would agree. I would also say that Cook is playing for his place now. Maybe make someone else captain and let him focus on his batting. | |

youd want someone with personality, strength and experience to be captain. i think cook was a poor choice as captain and said so when the appointment was first made, only because someone scores 100s doesnt make them a leader. he leads with the bat but isnt really doing that because hes out of nick.
take cook out of the side that leaves:
Bell - a no from me, great player but slightly meek
Anderson - no
Prior - not sure
Broad - hmmmm, not sure
gus fraser will have pushed for that robson selection and i think its a poor call. whats happened to james taylor, adam lyth, simon davies etc. i dont think taylor did much wrong and ends up being dropped. i thought the lions were supposed to encourage development, dont take a player out of the lions put him in the test side and then drop them. | | | |

I have this horrible feeling that we are in for another decade of abject mediocrity. Never felt that Cook was a good captain and that is being proved. Would have had KP as captain myself and built the team around him and his ethics towards the game, which I feel has been more than blown out of any proportion to suit certain individuals needs. For me England should have gone for Alex Hales from Notts as opener, and allow him the time and licence that the Aussies allowed for David Warner. | |

I've had the same discussion with plenty of people who like to mouth off about how carp Cook is. If you look at the county scene you'll find very few England-qualified captains and none really of test quality.
But I think its getting to the point where something has to be done. Cook's form with the bat has gone to pieces and he needs to work on that without having to work on his captaincy at the same time. I think his reaction to the Buttler mankadding shows he's losing his cool too.
I think I'd go for Bell - he wouldn't be inspiring but Warks fans reckon he did OK there, he's one of the few players guaranteed a place, and he'd start without the baggage of having skippered us to a whitewash defeat or of having been involved with the KP decision.
But I fear the guys at the top don't have a grip on either the scale of the problem or what needs to be done. The fact that they have put Ballance in at the wrong position, they've put Prior back in as soon as he's passed as match fit even though he was actually dropped for poor form [while Buttler has been one of the few successes of the last few months], the decision to axe KP - which is justifiable, but was made before they'd even chosen a new coach, when clearly it should have been a matter for the new coach - the unwillingness to address the issue of the team being packed full of non-English players, all lead me to think that Moores was the wrong choice as coach and the men who chose him are the wrong men to do the choosing. | | | |

i wanted compton to succeed as he seemed to score runs for fun in the county game, but he did fall out of form sadly and got found out. i originally thought he was dropped as a form of protection with a view to reintroduce him again a bit like prior recently, however, just like with some other prospects it seems theyve closed the door on him. | | | |

It's difficult as the bigger the lead the more pressure you can apply and the less you worry about giving away runs and hopefully the more wickets you take and then when you do everyone says that you should have declared earlier. But we should have given them 20 minutes last night. | | | |
