Oldham Athletic 1 v 0 Salford City Papa John's Trophy Tuesday, 31st August 2021 Kick-off 19:00 |
SaintGeorge added 18:27 - Dec 13 One sometimes wonders why one is interested in Association Football. What a diabolical match. As for the performance, Mané is like the plughole of the team - every clever move, pass, run, dribble, and idea eventually falls at his feet and goes straight down the drain. SaintMaw added 19:08 - Dec 13 That was awful.....The game can be pretty much summed up by looking at Tadic's Penalty miss. The game was there for our taking but we let it slip.... Defense was solid UNTIL that slip in concentration. Bertrand played amazingly. I want to keep him Midfield...I thought Wanyama was HORRENDOUS in the first half. He picked it up in the second half but that only brings him up from a 4 to a 5 -__- completely horrendous Davis was good. He seemed like the only focused player on the field. Hesketh was great...he was like a breath of fresh air. am sooo Gutted that the kid didnt get to finish his full mtch debut. I feel that he is a great player. Ward-Prowse didnt do much for me. He didnt make any impact but he didnt mess up either. Some deadly balls were played from him though..That is something we surely missed. I am sure he will be back to his best form in a few games Going forward. Mane was awful today. He should not start. Long should start. Not once in this game did Mane and Tadic switch. Trippier shut him down all night. Tadic played well but he shoulda scored the PK. honestly. Pelle played great but no service again We all know what must be changed. We need Jay Rod back fast...We need Schneiderlin back to help our cause. Long should start over Mane for the time being. We need to add depth to the team in January. And we need some belief....I'm sure Koeman would be furious with the players. I know I am angry we lost..... Consigliere added 10:01 - Dec 14 I wasn't there so am reluctant to comment too far but having seen the second half online, I think that SaintMaw has pretty much nailed it in terms of intelligent analysis. The problem is that success breeds success and failure spawns failure, and we have had a few bad results recently. Let us hope for a good performance on Tuesday to start the turnaround - I damn well hope so because its a long way to go and I'm told that its usually cold at Sheffield's ground so taking plenty of pullovers for this trip! AhmedIsa added 18:17 - Dec 14 tegid13 added 18:40 - Dec 14 Unlucky to lose in the final stages of the match. We did not deserve to concede so late on. We should of scored on several occasions during the game. At times, very sloppy in the 1st half (especially in defence), although we dominated in the 2nd half, but lacked the finishing in the final 3rd. Poor communication between Jazz Richards & Gerhard Tremmel at the end, which cost us the goal. Dull1Thomas added 19:31 - Dec 14 An exciting game that was lost as soon as Shelvey was introduced. Jazz will get all the stick for one poor clearance but he's a player that passes the ball and there was no one to pass to. Even so Spurs still had to get the ball in to shooting opportunity and with hole left by Leon's absence they had all the time in the world. A match that we should have wrapped up within 60 minutes yet the 'top two inches' let us down again. Our defence of corners reminded me of the state we used to get in when Roberto was in charge - not clue. I love watching Montero but again he had scoring opportunities and didn't attempt a crack at goal and to be honest, while more exciting than Dyer, he is simply not as effective. If Michu is fit to play in January, and Napoli don't want him, he has to be back in the team. baglowz added 23:00 - Dec 14 Poor first half, allowed spurs to press high and unfortunately we had no plan b. Second half terrific display from Swans. Unfortunately same old 'didn't put the chances away'. Thought Jazz was sold short by Tremel and although played his way out of a tight spot, he was a bit stranded as there was no white shirt to pass to. Shelley made a similar error a minute later and last week Britton gave the ball away in front of goal. These things happen to all players so I wish people on FB and Twitter would get off Jazz' s back. He's done really well when he's come in, just needs a run in the side. Got to start taking our chances otherwise we'll start slipping out of the too 10. Another great season in the PL....who'd have thought that 10 years ago? A small club punching its weight in the best league in the world. Well done Swans superhoopdownunder added 01:26 - Dec 16 I agree with your comments on Barton. He is a liability and was at fault for the first 2 goals. He can't pass, is slow and is not up to the Premier League. He should not be in our team and should never be captain. I would much rather have Henry and Sandro in the team. Dunne should be captain. Phillips proved again he is not a Premier League player. Everton were there for the taking tonight and we blew it. batmanhoop added 13:56 - Dec 16 we got what I expected, nothing. The only positive Everton were not at their best, otherwise it would have been a right drubbing TimSaint added 02:45 - Dec 17 What a joke. I and 4000 others made the long journey to witness that utter rubbish. Game after game of late, Koeman has said how we must learn from our mistakes, but either he is not making the team learn or they are not listening. FF - some great saves but should have held the shot that led to the goal NC - poor game and never given the chance to get forward MT - looked out of his depth despite good games at Arse and Stoke in previous rounds JF - did not lead, won most headers, but passing and crossing was abysmal FG - did not want to be there and was scared to pass forwards and justified red at the end MS - did well enough and was always an option, but needless card means he misses Everton VW - battled well and was good driving forward, but also got a stupid card is misses Everton JWP - looking stronger but drifted in and out of the game. Davis in for him with a full squad to pick from RB - the gamble of playing him left mid did not work SM - offered little again and summed up his night with 2 glaring misses SL - ran his socks off, worked back and in the channels and won headers. Little supply or support. LI - started quite well then dropped out of the game EM - didn't see him do anything apart from try to turn in the box, fall over and concede possession TA - should have been on at the start. Will need to be our holding mid v Everton now we have 2 suspensions, unless Davis recovers. Where was Tadic ? Perhaps not game best suited for him, but bench him at least ??? As some of the players have already publically apologised, perhaps they would like to offer us fans a ticket refund, like their Sunderland counterparts did - as this defeat is as embarrassing as losing 8-0 to a premier league rival. See you all on Saturday and hopefully we will have learnt from our mistakes this time around !!!
