Oldham Athletic 1 v 0 Salford City Papa John's Trophy Tuesday, 31st August 2021 Kick-off 19:00 |
sidsaint added 21:34 - Nov 21 Poor performance especially in first half with numerous misplaced passes. Stoke got their goal and then lined up the buses making them difficult to break down and to be fair they created the better chances for another goal. owderrammy added 11:46 - Nov 22 For me the pivotal point of this match was when Scott Carson saved a shot in the first half after being raided by 3 Cardiff men who were clear of our defence. For me a goal then would have caused us to chase Cardiff. That save changed the game into a routine win. LesVivian added 12:13 - Nov 22 I would have thought, with Pelle up against formidable central defenders, we could have left him out, put on a good passer, e.g. JWP, and aim to play balls outside to our pacy players, Long and Mane to run at 'em, inside or outside. Shawcross and Wollsheid would have no conventional centre-forward to deal with, and as they don't have the pace to keep up with our fast men, would be liable to committing fouls in good areas for us. Pelle battled on well, and he should have had a penalty from an abject referee, but it was often 2 against 1. As for Tadic, when a battling attitude is required he is wanting, and he looks to complain about others on the team! aceofthebase added 17:15 - Nov 22 Great to see the fans on here thinking that Clasie played better than Fonte, Bertrand and Tadic. Played with energy and adventure and with some luck could have scored more. This against a team and manager who should be ashamed of themselves. Vale set up to spoil the game and cheat the referee, never have so many stout footballers been brought to the ground by seemingly innocuous challenges which conned the poor referee. Hooper a revelation, McDermott a constant threat from the moment he came on, Bennett getting back t his best which is great to see. Hendo running across the line nicely with Andrew a good foil today playing well. Camps more comfortable a little deeper and much to be optimistic about today. Well played Dale in awful conditions, some really nice stuff, thoroughly deserved the win. aceofthebase added 20:40 - Nov 28 We sold Clyne and haven't replaced him with any of strength or quality. This will be a weak area for the rest of the season unless the January window yields a miracle player. Thought Steven Caulker took his chance to shine very well. After a poor start we played as well as Man city and maybe deserved a point. Strangely I don't think Pelle would have made much difference, Harbour added 19:45 - Nov 29 so good to see a win forgotten what one was like...first half two toothless teams...Ale F apart not much quality on show. second half much better Charlie and chery upped the tempo 2nd half subs...so good to see Ale F spraying the ball all over the pitch...best player on the Pitch...quite funny hearing leeds fans giving their team grief....also enjoyed seeing NW getting animated with the players...a good afternoon harder tests to come
