Not the time I know, but this Ray obit pisses me off 17:09 - Apr 4 with 8533 viewsAntti_Heinola

Have a look at where we're mentioned in this.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2018/apr/04/ray-wilkins-chelsea-captai

What an absolute piece of shambolic writing. His amazing time with us not even a footnote, just a throwaway line at 'sliding down' - yeah, for 6 years at the top level, you utter pr!ck.

Never liked Williams. Poor writer who thinks far too much of himself. Shoddy knowledge here.

Bare bones.

This is the nicest thing i've read about Ray today and is taken from the BBC website.

In an Instagram post paying tribute to his former manager, ex-QPR midfielder Nigel Quashie told the story of how Wilkins gave him his debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

I will always be proud to say how lucky I am to have been coached, managed and even to have met you. If it wasn't for you I would never have started my career playing football and I will never forget going to Manchester United as a YTS trainee to do all the kit and boots in the changing room for the first-team squad.

One hour and 30 minutes before kick-off you name the team and I was in it, and that's how my debut went. I didn't even get to think about it because all you said was: you're number 18, here are your boots and shin pads, just go and play, have fun and treat it like you're over the park with your mates.

My mum never had a mobile phone back then because we couldn't afford anything like that and everything went through her work or home phone. I asked you after the game if I could call home to speak to her. You said use my mobile and call this number - it was my mum on the other end of the line and she said she was outside by the away team bus.

I went outside to see her and asked how did you get here because I knew she couldn't afford it. She told me Ray had got the club to pay for her train ticket to come to the game and then told me Ray got the club to give us our first mobile phone in life during the week and he wanted to surprise me, knowing I was making my debut.

I was given a chance by Ray Wilkins, one of the legends of the game, and to this day you are the first person I mention when it comes to football and that will never change. You will be missed so much not just in the football world but as a real human being with such class. Thanks for everything and my thoughts go to all the family. Sleep well Sir Ray Wilkins.

"She told me Ray had got the club to pay for her train ticket..."

And that's when I choked up. What a thoughtful bloke.

Just been watching the Debate and the moron host said:

"Take a look at those illustrious clubs he (Wilkins) has played for, well the top few at least!"

Needless to say, little old QPR were bottom of that list. How do people stay in a job? That truly offended me 😡

To top it off, the Champions League show on ITV didn't even bother mentioning us? I don't want this to become about QPR but let's get the bloody facts right? 175 appearances in a team that would dick over Scum and always hold their own against an untouchable Utd side.

Thank god I ditched SKY otherwise I would have put my foot through the TV screen
BTW Mole who was the presenter who came out with that sh1t ?

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Think the Sky comment was uncalled for but most news outlets are only going to mention the big clubs he played for and I've no real problem with that. If it was an in depth feature on Ray WIlkins showing his whole career then a large chunk would be on QPR but I don't think it's something we need to worry about. We all know what he did for QPR and that should be enough

if Kevin Keegan died tomorrow you can be sure his spell at Southampton wouldn't be mentioned either despite him being brilliant for them. It's just the way it is

If a famous player or manager from a club dies that club will only be mentioned if they happen to be in the top division at that time no matter how long or successful he was at that club. Any brush with one of the top six will be the headline no matter how tenuous.

See Alec Stock. Barely mentioned in the obituaries that he was at QPR at all.

We didnt even get a mention on the news last night....Wilkins only played for Chelsea, Man U and Milan it would appear. Even my wife turned and looked at me and shook her head.

That's absolutely lovely, that.

It's fair to say that I don't think Wilkins did a great job at Fulham. Second time around, as assistant, he was clearly struggling with personal/health issues, but I appreciated him as a player. I was actually too young to understand what a player he was at either Chelsea or Man Utd, so my impressions of him were formed during his time at QPR, when I thought he was fantastic, and I remember him being widely popular and respected during his time with you.

In terms of obituaries focussing on his time with Chelsea, Man Utd and Milan; that's the media for you. The average TV football fan won't be interested/impressed by his time at QPR, even though he possibly made a bigger impact on your side than any other side he played in.

There have been loads of former Fulham players and fans posting messages saying what a kind, thoughtful bloke he was, and the fact that so many people clearly thought such a lot of him says it all. So, RIP Ray; your life was too short, but you bought a lot of joy to people and you were obviously hugely loved by those who knew you, so a life well lived.

They showed a clip of The Debate on SSN last night.

The presenter was Geoff Shreeves.

The coverage has pìssed me off, but we know what Ray meant to us all, and he loved his time at QPR.

that will be same Shreeves who tried to keep goading Conte into crying when he interviewed him about Astori before a game a couple of weeks ago , he wouldn't let it go despite the world seeing conte was distraught and not in the right frame of mind
the sooner SKY are gone from the game the better so the likes of jim white, shreeves and Carragher can crawl back into the rocks they came out of

I don't know hardly anything about the people/reporters you lads are talking about. I knew who Ray Wilkins was though and that's all that matters to me.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Kong : Didn't he get the tin tac following the play off semi 1st leg at home to Grimsby ???

As I remember he was actually sacked before the match for something he said in his naïve
way about not being able to beat Grimbsy over the two legs.
His career was two halfs, one as a excellent player and in coaching / management failed in every job as I recall. I will still miss his skills and softly spoken verdicts on other footballers and indeed officers of the game.

He was actually sacked before the play-offs, at the regular end of the season. Keegan took charge for the play-offs. Wilkins was on a bit of a hiding to nothing with us: ex-Chelsea, replaced Micky Adams, who most didn’t want sacked, and then with the money we spent compared to everyone else, it wasn’t ideal.
