Seems a long time ago now. Benny Hill did a really good sketch lampooning Dickie. Farewell Dickie.

Yes, I recall watching the World of Sport and even had an old book of it that I used to read from as a small child.

RIP Dickie Davis

Did not know he was still with us..

My first ever half marathon, into Rushmoor Arena nr Aldershot, the great man commented as we all entered the final stretch in various states of exhaustion.

I remember even then the quiff with a sliver of grey.

Competed against Uncle Frank Bough on Grandstand, who turned out to have a liking for being lots of young women of disrepute's Uncle Frank !!!

Yes it does seem a long time ago now. Always came across well did Dickie. I liked world of sport, but they never had any of the big events. Maybe that was part of the charm. Double decker bus racing from Wolverhampton was probably the pinnacle!

One of the best to do it and a true broadcasting legend.

P.S. He was 94, not 89.

As a kid I used to get him and Des Lynham mixed up.

I'm just old enough to remember World of Sport.

A Saturday afternoon staple in our household when I was a kid, my nan loved World Of Sport, if only for the wrestling, big Mick McManus fan she was. Loved Dickie Davis, too. We all did.

A real legend. Something very reassuring about seeing him on TV. One of the good guys!

Never knowingly right.

World of Sport was typically On the Ball, the ITV 7, wrestling, results, with a few sport specials thrown in. I remember watching Superbowl highlights for the first time ever on World of Sport when I was about 7.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end
