| Things that are different than last season 17:10 - Aug 29 with 8539 views | Myke | Lots of obvious ones like points, league position, quality/depth of squad, injuries. But the thing that has struck me the most is how proactive JS has become with his subs to try to change the game in our favour. 2 changes at half time today, and two more early in the 2nd half. Four changes in one go last week. Obviously that worked a treat today and didn’t quite come off last week. But last year he seemed to dither a lot more and it could often be the 70th minute or beyond before he made the changes. I think this stems from two things. The first is that obviously he has a much stronger bench so knows he can make changes that can genuinely improve our chances of winning the game. But I think the second is down to him personally. He is a year more experienced with the Championship and has become more confident and assertive as a result. I wasn’t a huge fan of the man last season, but he is definitely growing on me. The caveat is of course that we are only getting started, the whole apple-cart could be upended by a raft of injuries, but for now, it’s fun being a QPR fan again. | | | | |

I don’t think people are getting over excited about the squad. But I do think people are rightly encouraged by the changes over the last two seasons. I don’t think anyone could say we haven’t improved the quality of the squad overall in the last two seasons. That doesn’t mean we’re anywhere near being able predict where we’ll end up at the end of the season. And of course there are the usual concerns about whether we’ve overspent and it’ll come back to haunt us. It’s really early days. But we have enough misery as QPR fans so can’t we enjoy a bit of pleasure when we actually win a match. Don’t really get the gibe about Nourry.

Sometimes it’s nice to have a day off mentioning him one way or another I’d have thought. Let’s just have a break and enjoy the result.
| Things that are different than last season on 23:06 - Aug 29 with 1995 views | WestbourneR | You’ll be surprised to hear I think having a good goalkeeper makes a huge difference. But honestly it’s just a much more expensively assembled squad. 3 seasons ago weren’t shopping in the Lamptey, Cirkin and Kamara shop. Serious money has been spent now and it’s shows. It’s hugely enjoyable. | |

Specifically with those three, two were free transfers and one a loan? Wages might be high but then Cook, Beghovic, Colback etc were prob not on starvation wages either…. Money has been spent overall but think it’s fair to say it has been spent better too for the most part
| Things that are different than last season on 00:01 - Aug 30 with 1804 views | EmpireStateRanger | I get the sense that Nourry sold JS on the project and JS knew that last season would be a bit of trial by fire. Now, we have some real depth, barring injuries, so JS is expressing the expectation to dominate games. Last year’s side had the makings of a good side but with some reliance on middling/raw talent. Now we’re able to put a strong lineup out there and let that raw talent develop elsewhere (Morgan to Bradford, etc). Exciting times. | | | |

Are our finances vaguely stomachabable, yes (to my ill informed i). Stick with it, don't look for tragedy.

| Things that are different than last season on 07:11 - Aug 30 with 1479 views | dmm | In attack, there's an increase in the number of players getting into the opposition's box. I think it's partly down to team shape and partly down to fitness, with players better able to quickly get up and down the pitch. Charles' superb 50 yard passes also probably help. | | | |

Unless I’m mistaken, those 3 arrived on a free transfer. Not a bad shop to find players of that quality if you can get the best out of them. So far, so good.

Free transfers, highly in demand, big wages. Add Kone, Madsen, Saito, Edwards, Varane. And then yes - clearly - we’re spending a lot more money than we were a few seasons ago and the squad is relatively expensively assembled. It’s not a debatable point I’m also not saying it’s bad. I like most of the players we’ve bought. I think it’s starting to look like our best squad in a long long time.

| Things that are different than last season on 07:48 - Aug 30 with 1388 views | joe90 | There definitely seems to be a feeling that we’re going for it this season. Possibly the extended play-offs have contributed to that? Not surprised by Stéphan, I liked him last season and thought the fitness issues weren’t his fault, plus he changed things when he needed to. As with all things QPR, there’s still the possibility we’ll balls it up, so I’m going to enjoy the win and look forward to Wednesday. | | | |
| Things that are different than last season on 07:48 - Aug 30 with 1389 views | gazza1 | There are many things that are far better than last season, many, many, many but the two biggest things are: 1) the Manager appears to have learnt a lot from his pretty average performances last year 2) our first team & squad is 'well decent' indeed So 'fair play' to the improving Manager & 'well done' to the Team responsible for recruiting some decent footballers. | | | |

Surely you are aware there are different views/opinions on here. Some more commonly accepted than others. It’s okay to poke fun at it sometimes!
| Things that are different than last season on 09:02 - Aug 30 with 1215 views | CiderwithRsie | Leaving aside that I don't like taking pops at former players unless they've been dicks to us, I don't accept that winning teams are just about racking up better players (which was essentially the Redknapp claim). We can all see that the squad is stronger than last year (and yes, some credit has to go to Nourry, same as he has to take the blame for previous failures such as Celar or, arguably, Dembele) but overall our spending has not been massive. I don't think other clubs were falling over themselves to eg sign Kamara but he looks a very useful addition in exactly the role we needed. Overall I don't think there's been some sort of lightbulb moment with Stephan, I don't think what he's doing right now is radically different from what he tried to do with his previous clubs. I think it's been a process of putting things together on a budget over a couple of years, and establishing a team ethos. It takes time. Let's hope this year is Our Time. | | | |

I can’t tell if that’s genuine curiosity or if you’re a bit peeved by my comment. Either way, its not that deep. He posted something about Nourry, people jumped on it, I made a joke about.

The point is our spending must be among the lowest in the Championship this window. So big spend this season is not the reason for our improvement. There was big spend (for us, very average for the division) the previous couple of years. The upturn in results this season is surely more that earlier signings have developed and improved and the free transfers/ loans this window have been v shrewd additions that have also improved us.

| Things that are different than last season on 21:01 - Aug 29 by Wilkinswatercarrier | Not exactly rocket science. The club got rid of dross like Hayden, Field etc and they've replaced them with better players. That's pretty much it. |
Utter poppycock forever to Field as dress. He always worked hard for the team, ran, made tackles and covered a number of positions in the team. He was loyal and an all round decent man. True, he wasn't as technically good as Kamara but to call him dross is wrong. As for what is different , I agree with a lot of the other posts, but I think the pre season training and fixtures, including the 2 matches in 2 days with different line-ups, has played a huge part in their fitness and capability to last the full match without looking dead on their feet. I do also agree, that QPR will need an extra forward , especially if Kolli is not going to be part if the squad. Kone, Burrell, Lloyd and the almost elusive, Obikwu will not be sufficient against better sides than the 3 teams played so far. A special call out to JCS, who has so far stayed fit and performed very well.

The big spend over two seasons is the reason for our improvement. Mainly. The money has mostly been well spent but without spending it we would not have the squad we have and not be getting better. You can try and twist however you want - the above is true. End of. Remind me the last time we spent £4.5M on a centre back? £3M on a striker plus add ons? The answer is - the Redknapp era. And funnily enough we were high in the table then too. So the money is not the only factor but it’s the single biggest factor. Don’t know why that’s such a controversial fact… [Post edited 30 Aug 11:33]

It is wrong of you to write that Field was 'dross' because he was a 'proper' clubman, worked very hard when he was here, availability was pretty good and played some good football considering he was not the most technically gifted players. Won POTY and rightly so. The decision to release him was a good one by the Club, he was not playing anywhere near the standard he had been previously and JS did not rate him accordingly. I say 'thanks', good luck and see you again soon. PS - he is not starting much for Norwich, sub most weeks which makes him a strange signing imho.

I'd been meaning to say something about your relentless criticism of Field but had hung fire until now. You describing him as "dross" has made me crack. It probably doesn't help that that he had the perennially underappreciated role of defensive midfielder, but he played 190 times for QPR. 190. We shouldn't judge his Rangers career solely on his admittedly below average performances last season.
| "Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1." |
