Charming is an amazing song.
The guitar part is incredible and Marr wrote it when he was bloody 17.
In the words of Dell boy that one of my most favourite songs, still turn it right up in the car, should know better at my age, not fussed on Morrisey but do like the music. .

The Smiths rank on the very top tier of music. Only a very few bands can walk beside them, and those few have all got their due credit. The Smiths remain underrated by the generations that came before them and after them and by many of their own generation.
Songwriting, lyrics, musicianship and production were all absolutely stellar. They could do humour or play it straight, they could do politics or love, they could do fast or slow, joyous or melancholic.
They had it all.
I could post any of twenty songs here, but I'll go with this heart-rendingly beautiful five minutes.

I agree with you completely Brian. Were completely ignored by the mainstream in the eighties. Was lucky enough to see them live twice, including their last gig. Just read Johnny Marr's autobiography. Highly recommended if you haven't read it. The man's a genius.

'Set The Boy Free'?
If that's the right one, I'll order it now.

I was lucky enough to be at the first gig they played in Ireland in Dec 1983 at TCD.
Saw them a good few times over their short lived career. Always enjoyed this one live
They had some great lyrics "Under the iron bridge we kissed and all I ended up with sore lips, in my life why should I spend valuable time with people who don't care if I live or die" So true about so many work places.
