I thought part of our indian summer was down to not doing that anymore? So why the fcuk are we doing it?!
We're not sucking them in and beating their press with a cheeky killer ball. We're scaring the shit out of ourselves and our already terrified keeper, running around like penguins on ice hoping to finally get it out to Jimmy so he can wallop it up the line to nobody.
WHY????

“Game Model”.
We’ve had a few defeats so…
Yeah that's the thing - more learned football-thinkers than I had suggested that maybe Julie pushed to ditch the game model after Coventry. Or at least parts of it, including the dicking about at the back bit.
So was it only ever a temporary pause? Have the model folk been advocating to bring it back? Did they all just forget and revert to type?
Mental.

Please - just stop it. I’m sure most of us don’t want the hoof too often, but for goodness sake pick and choose the moments when it doesn’t leave us asking for it.
Surely, it cant be that hard to work out?
Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

The annoying thing was very early on Southampton looked vulnerable to the ball over the top and we didn’t try it again until Burrells goal.
Unfortunately when you’ve only got a two man midfield and only one of them could be mildly called an enforcer, then you’re almost duty bound to try and pass your way out rather than get the ball in the opposition half and win second balls.
We’ve got to stop giving away so many goals, maybe put three ball winners in the centre and break up the three midget men set up that is too easy to play against.

Completely agree
On Saturday , the lad behind me said something to his mate that was totally spot on. It followed the 4th or 5th attempt at us taking a quick free kick that finished up with us either back at Nardi or pressed into one of our own corners . The lad said “you take a quick free kick to put pressure on the opposition, but we are the only team I’ve ever seen that’s takes a quick free kick that finishes with us putting pressure on ourselves”.
Sums us up completely.

My sauces tell me that whilst the tides ebb and flow, at the most recent gathering of the "To Dick About Or Not Dick About" committee, "Dick About" had the numbers over the "Stop Dicking About" faction.

I do not particularly like it but there are massive benefits further up the field.....likewise booting the ball up field from our box generally comes straight back towards where it came from which is not what you want.
It needs to be done at the right times.

'It needs to be done at the right times'
Before that you need to hold and give. You can be slow or fast, but you must get to the line.

Perfectly true Gazza, but it's not only the right times in the game - I think it's also looking at how the season's going and focusing on getting the basics right before they start elaborating. Especially at the back.
Exposing players who are on a bad collective run to what Julien might call excessive 'dannnnger' can't be a good thing.

But surely inviting a press which you are not able to play around results in booting it up the field under self-inflicted pressure anyway.

We lived very dangerously early on doing that putting Nardi under pressure from goal kicks, but played out from the back very well when Madsen and to a lesser degree Chair and Varane got involved.
