Watched 'Mudbound' last night on Netflix.

Two families - one black and one white - struggle to make a living in deeply racist Mississippi during and after WW2.

Good script, fine acting.

I watched 'The Darkest Dawn' on Netfix last week.

A low budget British sci-fi flic that is better than a lot of Hollywood blockbusters I've seen.

Mudbound. I read the book quite a few years ago and saw the film not too long ago.
Enjoyed the book a lot more than the film but I can say that about a lot of books and films.

That could be a whole thread books that are better than the film or vice versa.

'To Kill a Mockingbird' - both excellent.

Book - 9/10 (more space, so more evocative maybe)
Film - 8/10

i really can't think of a film that is better then the book, although my wife reckons it's highly likely the Bourne films are better then anything Robert Ludlum could write, whilst admitting she would never read anything by him!

All Bond films. Fleming's books were crap.

Can we go out yet?

The Bourne books are terrible. The 1st 1 is ok, but after that, shockingly bad IMO
(My eldest daughter bought them for me so felt obliged to read them)

I've started watching the Anthony Bourdain series 'Part Unknown'. Found it on Netflix the other day.

Going to have a look at that over the weekend. Bourdain is a big loss I think - he could come across as a bit of an uncomfortable douchebag at times but was always interesting and completely devoted to two of my favourite things, travelling and eating, and eating while travelling.

Watched Split on Amazon last weekend (£3.95 I think) - would highly recommend as an enjoyable bit of daftness.

On the other extreme Wormwood on Netflix is a slow, moody bit of docudrama quality.

She's right.

I got one of the books as a pressie. Dreadful.

Leave No Trace is now on Netflix.

From the makers of Winter's Bone, it follows a Father and Daughter who're living off grid in a U.S. Park and trying to stay that way. I found it to be warm, if bleak. I'll say no more, except to recommend it.

I watched a very good film on Netflix called The Guilty.
Danish film about a bloke who answers 999 calls for a living.

Rented JoJo Rabbit on iTunes. It won't be for everyone but me and the missus definitely had a bad case of "something in our eye" by the end.

Bit like a mad, sad modern mixture of The Producers and Life Is Beautiful and Anne Frank.

I concur Brian, it's very good. Thomasin McKenzie is one to watch, thought she was good in JoJo Rabbit too.

Turned it off after half an hour. Terrible film.

Hugh Grant, however, in The Gentleman, is quite brilliant as is the film.

I'd say three-quarters decent, at least...

Winters Bone is a cracking book, the film was more of an ok, although the female lead was Oscar nominated.

On Netflix search for " Dirty Money" and watch series of eye opening Documentaries.

If at first you dont succeed, pack up and f**k off home.
