When Sven was England manager he watched a lot of football he said.

The Championship is the best quality, .,most difficult and exciting second division in the world.

There aren’t many countries where the 2nd league even gets a mention, let alone regular crowds of 30k every week.

I think the English and German 2nd tiers are the best in Europe in terms of attendance. All the other 'big' countries (Spain, France, Italy etc) fall off a cliff such is the indifference to anything outside the top flight.

There are some very big clubs in Bundesliga 2 this season (Hamburg-Schalke-Werder Bremen-Nuremberg-Hannover-Dusseldorf), but the attendances don't seem that great - Covid restrictions, I imagine.

For comparison...

We have the 14th highest average attendance in the Championship, but we would be 7th in Germany this season.

3rd division for comparison. Devalued by 2nd teams.

Kaiserslautern, Magdeburg and 1860 Munich hardly drawing the same crowds as England's fallen angels, Sunderland, Wednesday and Ipswich.

Magdeburg fans were the ones responsible for this which went viral quite a few years ago.

Cruel, but incredibly funny, and probably remains one of my favourite viral football videos I've seen down the years.

Desperate days there. AEK getting the biggest crowds, 11,000 in a 70,000 seat Olympic Stadium.
