Bolton Wanderers: Doncaster Rovers match postponed over welfare concerns

BBC. Breaking news

Bolton Wanderers have postponed Tuesday's League One match against Doncaster Rovers, amid welfare concerns for the young players in their squad.

Financially-stricken Wanderers have been in administration since May.

They were only able to field three senior outfield players for Saturday's 5-0 loss to Tranmere Rovers.

"Whilst the threat of further sanctions is obvious, nothing can be allowed to impact on the welfare of such a young group," a club statement said.

"With so many senior players injured or unavailable, the squad has performed heroically."

Manager Phil Parkinson claimed after the Tranmere defeat that he had written to the English Football League to voice his concerns about player welfare.

Any idea when that will be decided TVOS? Selfishly I can't make that fixture so a PP would be a result for me, even if not for the Dale.

Later this week or next week, I would imagine. The Tractor Boys seem to think it will be off.

Yes, unfortunately. Always found her helpful in her role.

Why might the Ipswich game not take place?

Because they've got a load of internationals of various levels and it's international weekend.

Alan Judge is already in the preliminary Northern Ireland squad.

Looking at their squad, they’ve just signed a Cypriot international as well so it only needs 1 more to postpone it and although I don’t recognise names there’s probably a u-21 or 2 around the squad.

Can’t see the basis for the EFL to let them continue, surely they should be given statutory notice as well now

That would make some sense seeing as he is a Bowton lad. Always thought his ambition was to end up there. In happier circumstances of course.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

I’d never heard of Mike Minay a week ago, his inside scoops over the last 7 days have been awesome.

Well, when i say awesome i mean, erm, meaningless.

A couple of years ago I would have said that this would have been a dream job for Hillcroft to reunite at.
It still could be because no-one would expect miracles.

Hmmm. If there’s any truth in the rumours Hill has been considering Bury and Bolton I think that shows how far his stock has fallen. I’m surprised a more stable league club hasn’t approached him by now.

As well as that, could it be he will only consider 'local' clubs?

With Bolton being in administration you could argue they are in a great position if the right person takes over. Wonderful stadium, training facilities nearby - lots of potential going forward - they just need the right people at the top.

Surprised me that the vast majority of Bolton fans commenting underneath that tweet are vehemently opposed to Keith taking charge, whilst others are just perplexed as to why he'd want it.

Perhaps they have seen how toxic he can be .
He cant rock into a club like Bolton and be the number 1 and bully the whole operation.
He couldnt produce under the financial constraints.

To be fair PG, it's not as though he had an open chequebook here!

He did look rejuvinated at JT's testimonial and at a couple of pre-season friendlies so who's to say he wouldn't be able to reproduce the magic from his earlier spells with us?

The 'Billy Big Bo77ocks' mentality hasn't left them yet. They probably want a manager with a proven Premiership record to take them back to 'where they belong'

I'd say Steve Eyre was the best candidate with all those kids. It's made for him.

Steve Bruce could be available soon if the Toon Army get their way...
Lge1 would be Brucies level...

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds
