Pretty stunned at those exit polls.
Not sure why. It's slightly bigger than I predicted this morning but not by a huge amount. At no point have I thought it was going to be anything other than a Tory majority.

When the 'leader' of the opposition has no position on Brexit (did he not look at how the voters in labour constituencies voted in the referendum?) I expected nothing else.
Any Labour leader who manages to lose workington, darlington, . . . . has to go . . he is clearly out of touch with voters.

This one is sad because he did represent his people. They voted to leave and he voted leave in votes. He's been let down by by the bubble living idiots who need to look beyond their circle. It was interesting to hear Ash Sarkar (the literal communist) going down the Trump avenue of fake news. The entire labour party is in a mess and this was all predictable. A landslide (which it pretty much is) was obvious to anyone who looked beyond social media. Both my parents and my grandad who'd voted Labour his entire life voted conservative. Will there been a change? No. The idiots will double down. Just like in the US where Trump will win a second term, people who believe they know better will never accept that they may not be 100% right. I write this as a paid member of the labour party. I voted labour yesterday but my MP lost his seat. A seat that should have been very safe, just like in Heywood, Castleton & Middleton.

I hope Brexit is a roaring success and the predictions from some quarters that we’ll be better off ring true. My gut feel is it’ll be a load of shite but I’d rather be proven wrong than see the country get worse just for the sake of saying “I told you so”.

I’d say they need to first of all get a leader who has charisma and appears like they can be trusted. I personally liked Corbyn, but he just has too much baggage for the vultures to go at for him to ever realistically be elected.
I’d say a move more centrally but not completely. Radical socialism hasn’t worked, but a lighter version may be the ticket, especially if the country is on its knees following the effects of brexit.
Rocky times lie ahead i’d Imagine and Boris can pretty much do as he pleases now.

I agree about Skinner, and hope it was clear my post wasn't meant in any other way than as a "shakes head in amazement" moment. I don't agree with his politics but i respect his integrity and hard work in representing an area where the demise of old industry was bound to create economic and social problems. (And just as an aside, the outrage at the long-term burning of fossil fuels must leave young people confused about why the pit villages were ever glorified. That's another argument though, since they helped create the modern world and should always be given respect for that.)
But for those communities to reject the solutions offered by Labour in this election is quite astounding. BJ - if he has any brains at all - will act in a way which helps all our communities. For all our sakes, and cynicism aside, i wish him well

Keir Starmer played a big role in this loss, he’s a staunch remainer and played a role to steering the party in the catastrophic attempt to play both sides by winning remain seats and keeping hold of their strong holds. Wouldn’t want him as leader personally.
Seeing an impassioned Jess Phillips after the exit poll on channel 4 did her no harm in winning the vote of those with empathy for those less fortunate than themselves. Also seems to be quite grounded about where labour lie and the need for reform (this will probably put off union leaders though tbf, as they still think radical left is the way to go after listening to the momentum chair on bbc who insisted brexit was the sole reason for such a resounding defeat) Boris also see’s her as a threat, she’d get my vote for the party leadership.

He is still an MP - so a more centrist Labour Party? If so why not go the whole hog and amalgamate with the LibDems?
