Congrats Scunny, small pitch invasion revoked after the result.
Southend fans can go back to crowd counting and their love in with York i guess, despite some of them having their certainty that they had the playoffs sewn up before a ball was kicked.
Not that i dislike them for beating us in the playoffs last season, or the grief i got when leaving their ground this season as well.

That was a battle tonight. Not a lot of quality on display and a poor surface which actually looked okay before kick off.
Scunthorpe will be well up for it. And I have no doubt will try and drag us into a dog fight. Can we play around them? I hope so. Our patterns of play earlier in the season were a joy to watch. If we win the midfield we stand a good chance. And of course, try to clear our lines away from dangers. Robert’s got a trade mark goal again tonight. A very similar one at our place and a carbon copy the week before from a poor clearance gave Forest Green the same goal.
Doing it the hard way, i assume we are back in training in the morning and we can now focus on setting up for the game and using the heartache as fuel.

Scunthorpe will be a tough game and the goal scorer, Roberts is a player that I would like the Dale to sign.

Everyone fancied Southend but shows you how difficult it is to go again. They did it last year with 2 extraordinary away wins before losing another extraordinary final. To do it again was just too tough an ask - and they are in the FA Trophy final too which has taken its toll. Onto Scunthorpe for us. We should've beaten them twice - hopefully 3rd time lucky. | |

Plenty of Southend fans would be glad to see the back of Maher. They believe he’s held them back for a long time.
Edit: this post makes little sense now because of the edit which removed a reference to Maher managing in the EFL.
Suppose it’s a bit different to choosing to ignore being proven wrong and pretending it never happened. [Post edited 28 Apr 22:31]

Glad to see the back of Southend and Messrs Parillon, Kendall, Hopper et al who have been a scurge on Dale. Another reason to get out of the National League.
Calvin,in commentary described the game as a dog fight......would we be able to cope with a game of 7yellows and a red card. Discipline needed.

The ref was pretty shite, I like a ref that lets the game flow, but this guy ignored too much—pushing, pulling and ragging of shirts. The physical teams would love this ref.
But....it's a disadvantage to those who want to play. Probably teams like us.
If that was a prem game, there would have been a few penalties and loads of yellows. I know its lower league..however, the standards are getting better, refs' attitudes should move with the times. | | | |

I wouldn't worry too much ND, nor apologise for not spending time scrutinising the social media of other clubs, which aren't a scientific measure of overall opinion, as ours isn't and is often derided for being OTT by some on here...
I suppose it beats searching for very isolated examples of games where refs have been criticised for blowing for full time whilst a team was mounting an attack, an exception which proves the "rule" [Post edited 29 Apr 6:48]

Surely Maher should be ok if Southend win the FA Trophy in a couple of weeks time?
If he can improve this team with a couple of decent signings over the summer they should be amongst the promotion favourites again next season.

By Southend standards Maher hasn’t had much money to spend. The new consortium has focused spending on the infrastructure rather than the team. That hasn’t endeared them to the types that also want Maher gone. When they signed a new forward in the closed season, I was expecting someone out of the EFL. Instead it was Spasov from Slough Town, who was only a bit part player.
The club are committed to rebuilding their main stand and are investing in the pub closest to the ground to turn that into a sport hub. So can’t see them spending like FGR or Carlisle in the closed season. The fact that some of the supporters tell me they would love to have Dev in there squad, will tell a lot of posters on here that Southend fans know they don’t currently have the squad depth needed in this league. Especially if you go on a cup run like they did this year. | | | |
