| Cheating Saints? 08:33 - May 15 with 15668 views | frenzied | Just wondered what your thoughts are on the issues re Southampton spying situation. Should they be ejected from the play off final? Im more concerned re the on field cheating that occurs with diving ,feigning injuries to have a player sent off etc. This goes completley unpunished, Id expect a poss points deduction for Southampton at the start of next season but we will see | | | | |
| Cheating Saints? on 08:22 - May 20 with 4050 views | NorthernDale | Why not have a one game decider between Middlesborough and Southampton at a neutral stadium. I can understand the EFL judgement, in that Southampton admitted doing it three times last season, which raises questions about how the management operates at Southampton. It may cost the jobs of the whole management and backroom staff, if the judgement is enforced. | | | |

How can there be a replay between the two clubs when one of the reasons for Southampton being thrown out of the play-offs is because they have spied on the club you're suggesting they play (again)?

Yes, the EFL have made an absolute mess of this (surprise, surprise) when there was a perfectly viable solution available which would've caused zero disruption to fans and left Southampton with a huge weight hanging over them as punishment [Post edited 20 May 17:27]

Think they need to take the punishment and move on. Can they afford a long drawn out legal case which would cost millions - at the end of the day they are guilty and have admitted so. They aren't going to win - just move on.

Whilst It's probably too late to change the outcome, the "move on" aspect, if accepted at face value, would still have people being hung for petty crimes as used to happen. That wasn't "accepted" There are precedents such as Leeds being fined not long since. The EFL have compounded Southampton's shame by highlighting their own lack of integrity, with which we're already familiar As some high profile football insiders have said, there just couldn't be much gained from filming a training session on a mobile phone. It's just a stupid thing to do, and wasn't exactly James Bond doing it - but no more than that The so-called football regulator (what hsppened to it?) shoild be looking to sort this out, which is what i meant by not hearing the last of it

To my mind it would help if Southampton made some remorseful gesture such as announcing that the line manager(s) of the intern involved had left the club. The intern wasnât acting on his own initiative here but it would be interesting to know where the buck will stop at St Maryâs.

I think the Leeds punishment is different because it was during the actual season - the fact Southampton were caught doing it for a play off game has seen them having to forfeit that game. It doesn't help their cause when going back to players quotes from earlier in the season saying how "thorough the manager is and he seems to know everything about an opponent." 𫣠

You are correct in that we won't have heard the last of it. The FA are now investigating Southampton after it has been reported that they have been "spying" on opposition teams regularly throughout the season. They could well face further sanctions. There was a rule change after the Leeds case. It forbids any watching of opposition training sessions within 72 hours of a match, and Southampton pleaded guilty to this charge on several occasions. Their Management (or those who ok'd this) should be sacked alongside anyone higher up in the clubs infrastructure including at Boardroom level. Regardless of how insignificant it might have been; it's cheating. Some supporters are threatening to take legal action to try to recover costs especially for the games against Middlesborough. What a mess !! Feel for the supporters.
| Cheating Saints? on 11:02 - May 21 with 2852 views | watford_dale | Right verdict. Fun is just starting for saints, the players are taking legal advice and i assume there is a detremental conduct clause in the contracts whereby the player can be fired and contract cancelled. As the club has been correctly booted out of the playoffs, the behaivour of the club would fit this clause and so players could cite this and tear up their contracts. It happened a few years ago when sporting lisbon fans delivered some serious robust feedback to the players at the training ground and players cited protection at the workplace and tore up their contracts. Nick de marco is the absolute business, i expect some linked in profiles are being spruced up this morning. Perhaps include horizon scanning as a key skill. | | | |

| Cheating Saints? on 20:50 - May 21 with 2541 views | davidab2202 | Can see that Hull will not be thrilled by the decision to remove Southampton from the Play off final. Middlesborough will have continued to train in the hope that the decision would be taken to remove Southampton and they will have been able to concentrate on playing against Hull if the decision went there way. Hull on the otherhand will not have been able to factor in who they would be playing against until now.Not surprised that they had suggested that they should be automatically promoted in this situation | | | |

A lot of McNulty football on show too. Lots and lots of possession and not many attempts at goal. It won't matter to Hull one bit in the end - like us they have been promoted at Wembley.

Is âMcNulty footballâ now code for promotion winning football? We scored at a rate of nearly two goals a game and missed plenty more excellent chances to get to three figures with ease. Were there times I wished we did better in the final third? Of course. But itâs probably best to stick with the facts: as you say, that âMcNulty footballâ leads to success. Canât wait until weâre 16th in October⊠

Jim McNulty is older than Ian Henderson.... by about one month Let's face it, JM's not going to be Dale manager for the rest of his career in football. He's already, at a relatively young age, established his credentials I too hope he's found a place at the COA where he can further enhance his career. I suspect he'll need to do just that, and if he does, we'll all benefit Just as Hill, after taking us up to L1, had a successful season (by Dale historical standards) at the higher level before being tempted by the Championship, so it's likely to be with JM My reference to his age was to highlight how much further he has to go. Look at what happened to Hill... a great start at Barnsley then petering out, quite painfully in the end, despite returning to Dale and renewing his credentials. This club is the place to be, with our owners and their ambition for both Dale and the town If he's prised away in the close season, he'll not have learnt enough from his former manager. I seriously don't think that will happen

Agree that McNulty can still take us further and Stockport will probably be looking at someone with L1/Championship experience. The work heâs done with consistent improvement over a period of 3 years will see interest though. However, yes Iâd too wager that the strategic planning and patience both he and the ownership group have focused on over that time enables us to have more confidence he wonât go any time soon.

| Cheating Saints? on 07:15 - May 25 with 1144 views | NorthernDale | I wonder if the FA can impose anymore points deduction on Southampton or is that just in the control of the EFL. The legacy of Southampton actions will be felt by the club and fans for years to come. In respect to County, if they sack Challinor, who ever takes over could the job a poison chalice, in that the expectation may exceeds the ability to deliver and anyone appointed may feel instant pressure, if they are not winning every week. I think they may give Challinor more time. One thing in Rochdale favour is McNulty job is fairly safe at the Dale, so why risk it by taking a job somewhere else, were you could unemployed in months, besides the money. | | | |
