Players admit they haven't been giving 100 per cent 15:42 - Nov 4 with 4091 viewsSouthamptonfan

https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/25589458.armstrong-admits-southampton-players-

Armstrong goes on to say that many of the experienced players are p!ssed off. If this isn't a clue as to what they thought of Will Still I don't know what is. So.we were right to boo them, admitting they have not given their all for the shirt. But I have a tiny bit of sympathy that it must have been awful playing for a terrible manager. Armstrong gives many hints that Will Still was the problem though, and as I said many times, he didn't motivate them, he wasn't respected, they didn't like him etc etc. We can all.watch with interest on Wednesday to see if they play much better. I predict that we will all.see a different team now Still has gone. A few didn't see it, but Will Still was terrible, really bad.and the players clearly didn't like him.

So no pride in the club and not earning their generous wages. Experienced players should be leading the team. You can't choose your boss in any job. Armstrong should be ashamed. what spoilt brats a lot of professional footballers are, guess we already knew that.

I don't disagree. But giving Stephens a new contract, and making him captain suggests he would play a big part. To do that, to give the message to him that he would play a big part, then drop him from the team was fatal error.and very embarrassing. Stephens didn't do anything wrong in fact he got the winner against Wrexham and he is well liked team member. A few games later, he was thrown out of the team. Aribo was alienated and other senior players. This would have caused great disharmony, especially from a 32 year old who has never played the game. Will Still lost the players very early on. They have to be "managed" with experience and some.common sense. The players got Still out too, by not giving their best. I could sense it all. I bet we start playing much much better now hes gone.

Adam Armstrong should be ashamed of himself going public with that statement.
He has been stand in Captain for many weeks it's his job whilst on the pitch to motivate & make sure that everyone is giving 100%.
It's not about playing for the manager it's about playing for the club.
How does he account for last season whilst playing under Martin + Rusk + Juric were they not giving 100% under those managers, if that's the case it's not about the managers/ Coaches it's about the awful attitude of our players.

Would be difficult to play any worse Southamptonfan which is why I hope they don’t give the gig to the guy who is now in charge on an “ interim basis “. It would then be a question of rinse and repeat when the going gets tough once again.

We desperately need an older experienced manager who can show our current bunch of supposedly senior players his medals and tell them to shut up and get on with it.

Again, I don't disagree. But that's why we need a strong, experienced manager so that there's no more excuses.

Totally agree, lead by example. Downing tools is not the way, in any other job you get sacked
Giving Stephens a new deal was ludicrous for numerous reasons, he shouldn't be a starter anyway

To be fair, Stephens didn’t do himself any favours going to the big chiefs and telling them Still was crap.

He was right though to be fair, but then Stephens himself is crap as well.

Unprofessional w@nkers.
I find myself despising the football club that I’ve supported for over 60 years.
Thank you Sport Republic, job well done.

For a professional footballer to not give 100 per cent is totally unforgivable. They cheat everyone but most of all the fans who part with their hard earned money. Shame on them.

There is a bit of an underlying issue here, which to some extent may be replicated with a lot of fans.

After the horrors of last season, do the players really want to get promoted?

It was different under Martin. While he still muttered on shite about “scar tissue”, we hadn’t had quite such a horrendous relegation the year before (did the double against Chelsea if memory serves) and there was a lot of genuine positivity around at the start of that season.

This season definitely has a different feel.

Adam Armstrong was on loan at West Brom last season and that wasn’t a success. He probably doesn’t fancy that again.

One does wonder how bothered a lot of the players are.

The more I think of it, what an incredible thing to make public. He has made the fan base hate them even more, saying players basically aren't bothered and don't try hard for the shirt. What an admission.

But the deeper issue is that these players hate what Sport Republic are doing too. It's a toxic club. We never buy the striker we need, we never appoint the manager we need, there's no ambition, the owners are disastrous for this club and the players know it. From a few club officials I have spoken to, everyone is so unhappy at the club. It's highly toxic. Still was part of a long listnof f@ck ups. The new manager has a huge task.on his hands.

I have some sympathy here for the players to be honest. Thinking about it, they are footballer, none of them very special footballer, who likely just want to play the game they know and are good at. But for the last 3 years many of them have been asked to play silly tactical games that they just do not like and often get confused by. That must be hard. It is also no coincidence I feel, that each and every time we sign someone that is know to be good, they go backwards as a player and look crap.

I have worked in the past for a boss who was clueless and it gets to you and you just want to up and leave. Yes they get paid a lot, but it must be so soul destroying to keep getting a new gaffer in who thinks he is clever and wants to reinvent the game etc.

I don’t have any sympathy for them, none whatsoever.
They’re paid handsomely to do something that should be a dream vocation, kicking and heading a bloody football to the best of their ability on the training ground each day and on the pitch on match days.
They’re not living in real World.

If you go on strike then you lose pay. These twots swan about in sports cars still getting more in a week than most people earn a year.

Quite right - if as has been reported Aribo is earning £70k p/w and for the sake of argument the first day of a new tax year is a Monday, Aribo will burn through his £12,570 tax free earnings allowance by early Tuesday morning, be paying the 40p tax rate on his earnings by the early hours of Saturday morning and then hit the 45p tax bracket (something a lot of people never get to) by lunchtime the following Saturday, just 12.5 days into the new tax year.

As for the pampered little darlings admitting to the fact they haven’t been arsed to put in a proper performance lately, I can only assume come the end of the season they will therefore have no problem whatsoever donating at least 50% of their laughingly called ‘Loyalty Bonuses’ to the Saints Trust in recognition of the error of their ways.

Me too, Kernow.
...and let's spare a thought for Will Still in all this: did nothing wrong when accepting the job and was genuinely highly rated in Europe as a young manager. For all his subsequent mistakes, he's turned up, challenged the status quo in a number of areas eg Bazuno cannot stop a semi-urgent fart and Stephens can't stick to a man in the penalty area - and his reward was for that same group of players to launch a campaign against him, presumably because as senior pro's they 'know best'. The same players who got 12 points last season, who are a laughing stock elsewhere. Sounds very much like the sort of dressing room culture which took Sunderland to the brink a few years back.
Screw them: Play the entire U21 team and at least it will feel like we've got our club back in some way.

I have no sympathy for these players who earn an enormous amount of money - the least they should do is try. However, if you want to keep clapping and supporting them - that's up to you. However, it's you they are ripping off! I hope those of you going today and on Saturday let your feelings known towards these players.

My suggestion would be that the players should have white feathers on their shirts this weekend instead of poppies to highlight their abject cowardice.

LondonSaint76, that is a very good way of explaining just how much top professional footballers now get paid and how out of touch top level football now is with the majority of it's match attending fan base.

I would have assumed Aribo would have taken a 40% relegation pay cut which i believe is written into the players contracts.

If true he'll be on a measly 40k instead.
