Under 23 League Champions on 14:07 - Mar 14 by Trundle10 | I played sport all my life. Played rugby professionally as it go's. I agree with part of what u are saying ....celebrate away. What i am saying is the outpouring on twitter would suggest we Swansea had won the champions league. I also support Swansea. Where as i would always want Swsnsea to win it is the first team i support. Very few of yhe u23 are local lads or going to play for Swansea City. Not interested really. Dont start me on the womans team |
Outpouring on twitter akin to a team winning the Champions league? Was it you talking anout hyperbole in the other thread? The congratulatory tweets are a relection purely on the excellent achievement of Swanseas development side running away with the PL 2 title. Something we as a club can be proud of, our youngsters will now be playing the likes of Arsenal and Man City's youth which will only help their game. It also shows that the coaching and our set uo at that level is working nicely. The greater the opposition our kids face, the more they will grow into better players which increases the chance of inclusion in first team affairs. Dan James can't bee too far away from a run in the seniors for cup matches etc.

The only way the players will develop is by playing mens football. U23 football is a million miles away from what they need.

Under 23 League Champions on 14:13 - Mar 14 by waynekerr55 | Winning is nice in these competitions and well done to them. However in the grand scheme of things this means nothing and true victories are measured by progress to the first team. Harsh, but true. |
Harsh but true, 5 years ago we had nothing, now we have a great set up, the envy of anything this side of London, does that mean the best youngsters will automatically come here? no but gives us more than a fighting chance, why do you think Gareth Bale went to Southampton? facilities has to be in there plus they continually compete and produce.

To be honest it's all about development and progress into the first team. That is the niche we need to have, as the big boys hoover up any potential by offering more money. For example, Brentford closed their academy as they were fed up of developing players up to the age of 16 and then the players would sign for Chelsea/Spurs as they could pay more money. The facilities is a bonus, however the players are far too pampered at academy level. Most of them will be lucky if they play on a cabbage patch in League 2, or non league. I don't buy the argument that facilities = development, as the South Americans/Eastern bloc seem to develop players without sparkling facilities. The whole getting them in at 9 is a Red Herring, as it's shown that 'early specialisation' is not significantly beneficial to player development.

Really? The playing surfaces generally aren't good at that level yet these players are pampered. What percentage of these players go on to make a meaningful career at that level from academies?

Absolutely spot on, too many moaning about no products in the first team ( after only 26 months of status ) so this promotion will enhance the standard they play at and clearly their own development and skill levels. No pleasing some people, can you imagine if they finished bottom how pleased they would be.

Or player sales thus allowing us to strengthen our first team. Although you would imagine an academy set up improvement wouldn't provide any results for at least close to a decade.

True. It all depends if it's being run as it should be, not how Huw wants it to be or friends/associates of shareholders want it to be.

Got to hold their trophy and they were fckn ecstatic mate. Nobody really cared but it really mattered to them. A lot of them wont make it and play local for a few dollars. Winning is everything. Welsh Cup our u23s should be eligible would revitalise the competition and leads to europe.

Missing my point totally. Nobody is saying the players should not be ecstatic. Well done them. Just the emails off club, euphoric tweets by club, emblazoned on club website is a bit ott. Apathy reigns for me. Although i do not for one second wish they had lost. It is hardly massive news.

A common problem that needs dealing with - particularly before they turn into cats up a tree, which are whole new level of fuss.

How does supporting the Swans U23's affect our ability to win three points on Saturday? When none of the players who played on Monday, have a dog's chance of starting on Saturday 😂👠

I'm liking the irony that you played professional rugby- a sport which above and beyond most sports celebrates utterly pointless victories- e.g. What on earth did people celebrate Friday's victory over Ireland when it made absolutely no difference to Wales chance's of winning the Grand Slam?! Bristol won the 2nd division for 4 years on the trot- all their fans celebrated. Then they lost every one of the subsequent play off Finals. So failed to get promoted. Absolutely pointless. The U23s got promoted. If you are unable to understand the concept of this, best you stick to rugby.
