Break up of the UK 19:32 - Mar 27 with 3663 viewstrampie

The days of the UK might be numbered, in the short to medium term Scotland might get independence, N.Ireland might unite with the Republic of Ireland, leaving just England and Wales, the English have flooded Wales making Welsh independence a long shot at this point in time but in the long term English white flighters might not want anything to do with rule from their old homeland as other non indigenous groups gain more influence, its been suggested overseas immigration in some cases is sometimes an issue resulting in English white flight from large cities, concerns about overseas immigration was said to have played a large part in the Brexit vote, Welsh independence might be gained in time through English immigrants and not just Welsh nationalists.

47% incidentally the same percentage, sinn Fein under de valera won in the 1918 general election, which ultimately led to Irish independence.

History whilst not always repeating itself, frequently rhymes.

Ireland have had their ups and downs, as all.nations do. However,

The number of Eire citizens that would now choose to return to the UK I would hazard is now so low they would be outnumbered by the crowd at a cardiff city FA cup tie.

I'm sure they don't want to return.

Happy to accept the UK contribution to the EU bailouts they've had though...

The Welsh economy is not going to survive on selling water and energy generated through renewable sources.

We already lead the worlds coracle manufacturing industry.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

There are much smaller countries than both Wales and Scotland in Europe. There is no reason why both couldn't be independent if they wanted it. Iceland has a population of 300000 and seems to manage OK.

I'd love to see an independent Wales but the only way it will happen is if the UK disintegrates around us, although this is looking more promising than ever thanks to the brexiters.

Iceland, if you want that as an example, has been independent for how long?

Has it been as rooted with other nations as Scotland, Wales etc are?

The answer is a resounding "no" because you're comparing two different scenarios.

Scotland, Wales et al AT THIS POINT IN TIME cannotsucceed as independent nations. Doesn't mean they won't decades down the line, but it's folly to even imagine Wales, where WG ( happy, ECB?) have generally f*cked up the small devolved powers they have can magically become a fully fledged nation like Iceland without things being royally f*cked up.

Yes, UK is going to disintegrate by leaving EU...

Yes i agree. The brexit feckwits have achieved completely the opposite of their cozy black and white 1959s vision that the little Englanders so favour.

Mind you they were lied to big time.

Iceland has been rooted with other nations, Norway, kingdom of Norway, Sweden and Denmark and then Denmark.
Iceland has the population the size of Cardiff and was recently said to be the 13th most developed country in the World, Scotland and Wales could be even better than them in a short time.

Iceland might have been as poor a choice of example you could have taken. There can't be many more examples out there in the world closer to the England/Ireland/Scotland/Wales situation.

May fires blanks though. 'No deal' hard Brexit my arse. That was just to theow a bone to the rabid Europhobes and now we're already hearing noises about them backing away from that position before negotiations have even started.

I love your faith that the UK has got a crack negotiating strategy up our sleeve and the reason we're keeping it to ourselves is not to tip the EU off.

Whereas in actual fact we have no strategy and the reason we're not telling anyone what it is is because it doesn't exist.
