Happy Birthday Robbie.

A true Swansea legend.

Poll: Are the owners doing enough for Swansea City

He still holds the record for the youngest player to play 100, 200, and 300 league games.

Played with and against him many times as a schoolboy.
Light years ahead of everyone else on the pitch.

Top fella too.

Feel privileged to have watched him play so many times. A driving force from midfield with good shooting ability and tenacious in the tackle Robbie is one of our best all time players IMO.

Saw his debut, Charlton I think, 16 yrs old he was.
Loved his driving runs and snap shots, and also a great tackler.

Downside is I know a ref who sent him off!

Robbie James YJB.

He could play anywhere on the pitch.

I remember when Ante got sent off against Cardiff in the Welsh Cup Final, Robbie dropped back to replace him. He looked as if he'd played there all his life.

What a wing back he'd be now in the Premier League, Priceless.

As you said, top fella.

Taken too young!!

Wish I could have seen him play, from all I have heard about him.

Interesting fact: from birth to death, he spent more than 60% of his life as an active professional footballer. That has to be some kind of record?

Poll: Biggest signing so far in January? (just curious what Planet Swans thinks)

I saw Robbie play as a schoolboy down at the Vetch, fabulous player even as a kid. I can almost still hear his father shouting from the touch line 😉 Did you play in the same Swansea schoolboy team?

It was mentioned on the official site on the 23rd - paid my respects, memories came flooding back. My all time swans player.

I was in the U-19s (Bishop Gore had only just allowed "soccer" for the sixth form) although only a year older than Robbie.

We trained with the U-15s at Ashleigh and played against them and mixed the teams up.
Robbie always bossed the midfield...

He took me out in the penalty area as I beat him for pace but I didn't want to go down and tried to put it in as I fell so the ref waved away penalty appeal.

He was a mate and a legend so my story is always better because he said I couldn't let you beat me.

Brilliant bloke and I'll never forget when his best mate came back from Llanelli saying Robbie's gone!

His dad did love to shout lol. Worked with him for a few years, was terrible to see him go downhill after he retired. Rest in peace (Robbie, of course) and Roy James too. A lovely and very funny man.

Edit - Roy was a bit of a card cheat - always won chase the ace

I didn’t actually know Robbie personally although he lived a couple of streets away from me. I was however in the same year in school with his brother, who was also a very good player, and we played for the school at the same time.

As you say Brynnie, Roy was a lovely man and extremely funny. I had many a chat and laugh with Roy on the North Bank.

Roy's brother Freddie another funny and very nice man.
