There you go, Jim. Lessons learnt from a rude awakening are those likely to stay with you.

I look back now and think there really was nothing wrong with those ways

Another thing happened to me and my mate when I was about 11 we where messing round on farmers field think we was playing war games farmer shouted Oi you two clear off my mate shouts back something on the lines of her you and who's army just a bit cheeky anyway we ran off I told my mam what happened Jesus! Another wallop and takes me by the ear to my mate's house his Mam found out what happened we where both then marched down to the farmers house made to apologise for being cheeky and not asking permission to be on his land in fairness he was fine excepted the apologies and said we where welcome to play on his land after that as long as we shut the gate

Three things my mam would these days prob be in trouble with the authorities Why?

Second the farmer would be in trouble for chasing two lads probably called a peado these days

Thirdly I learned another lesson even though it wasn't me being cheeky never cheek you're elders

Exactly when I was about 6 I came home with a chess set my mam said where did you get that from I said I won it in school the next day she went to my school found out if nicked it that night I had a right wallop off my mam with her slipper she then phoned the local station a police Sargent came out tore a right strip off me gave me clip round the ear as he left
Next day I was brought out in front of assembly and had to apologise to the boy I stole off

I've never pinched a thing since

But these days the poor dabs

That’s called child abuse these days. Very prevalent amongst catholic priests.

While I see your point and agree to a degree, some important differences for me:

1) Your mother was with you when the policeman came to see you, this girl presumably had no family present and begged the school employee for help
2) You weren't placed in handcuffs and marched away
3) The police officer wouldn't have had a gun
4) You probably didn't grow up in an environment where a lot of people are shot by the police (I'm not sure how much of that she's aware of at her age, but I'd wager her and her friends are at least somewhat aware of it).

You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help.

That’s child abuse, Jim. You were abused as a child.

Makes me laugh when people recount these stories and say things like “never did me any harm”.

Yes it f*cking did. You think it’s ok to hit kids. You’re clearly damaged.

No I was disciplined in a fair manner that is why you get kids in school today pulling knives out on teachers the teachers can't do a thing these days

Discipline in society has hit rock bottom

No, Jim. You had violence used upon you. An adult used violence towards you when you were a child. If two adults use violence in that way they generally end up on a charge. People do it to kids because they’re physically stronger than them and in most cases they can’t fight back. Cowardice and bullying that is.

Yes, every parent that’s ever given their misbehaving child a slap on the ass is a coward and a bully.🙄

I agree with you but I am torn. It was fear of being hit by a rubber hose (with a bunsen burner attached to it...) that made me learn, and then love, chemistry. It was fear of authority that stopped me, and lots of others, running wild in penlan.

So I get the point, but I'm honestly not sure what was best for me personally when I was a dwt.

I do know it wouldn't have been what the op has highlighted though, that's for sure.

Problem is Loh, these days the poor child will be so ‘ educated’ as to how well she did and what a brave girl she was in the face of this fascist she will just turn out to be yet another hater of anything or anyone who would dare to impinge on what she wants, and when she wants it.

OK I've changed it.
