Tom was former artillery, airborne forces artillery and airborne forces combat medic. He served during the Northern Ireland troubles and Falklands.
Tom suffered terribly from his Falkland experiences after the war (not on Google or any book) especially after seeing a young teenage Commando being almost ripped in two by a howitzer shell. What really affected Tom was the young kid saying "I want my Mum". Sadly the kid passed away. I think everyone would agree with me that Tom was one top class soldier and a really nice guy to top all that.
That’s a fantastic resource you’ve linked there, mate.
Thanks a lot, brilliant.

The opening of Video 12 is so profound. A much darker haired Tom appeared on some ITV Falklands special around 30 years back recalling his experiences, I cannot find that anywhere but nice to see that he is in a much better frame of mind now. He was extremely bitter, and right justly so. Top soldier! Top guy like many others of all regiments and services.
He had extremely substandard support from the Army back then, and I do hope things have improved for our veterans since those days?

Nice one Loh, I'll watch this later, I joined just after the Falklands, my views on the "conflict" are known..... Best time of my life in the mob, as for Mr Wreford-Brown, he was given command of Hms Cornwall the finest ship I served on as reward for his efforts in the south atlantic. One night out in Gib I did ask him why he sunk the Belgrano and according to his steward he gave me a very good answer(I was a bit 3 sheets the time) and apparently he was impressed I had the guts to ask him as no one ever had
Happy days
I think the simple answer is he was told to sink it Paul.
He was obviously more impressed with your ability to stand to attention after 10 pints and a bucket of rum

There was a program on The Smithsonian Channel last night from a series called Helicopter Missions. This episode was called White Out. You can guess what it was about.
Chris Parry and his crew were in the Fleet air arm museum discussing the mission. Fair play, they were bloody brave doing what they did.
If anyone wants to watch it it's repeated at 16:00 today and 07:00 and 13:00 tomorrow.

Very interesting to hear these interviews. I'm always one to wonder what people experienced, how they cope and adjust etc

I can just about remember the Falklands war as a youngster, but when i served at one point my commanding officer was a gentleman called Colonel Adrian Freer, who was mentioned in the book ‘Green eyed boys’. The book was regarding 3 Para attack on Mont Longdon.
The Argies were unlucky during that war - unlucky in the fact that they faced the toughest soldiers on the face of the earth....🇬🇧
