Drakeford's latest TV appearance is beyond belief. He has said the Pfizer vaccine is too difficult to handle in Wales. He has 190,000 unused doses in freezers.
Why can NI , Scotland and England manage to use it okay.

UK average vaccination rate for first does 5.29% of population
Wales 3.59%

Number of second dose given in UK 430,000
Wales 120.

Stop.making excuses Drakeford and use the vaccines you have . Wales could easily have vaccinated 100,000 to 150,000 the same as NI

Poll: Sholud Wales rollout vaccination at full speed.

It is just a piss poor excuse.

If you can't use the Pfizer vaccine in rural Dolgellau then move it to Swansea or Cardiff and use it there. Don't just leave it sitting in the freezer.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

They are truly shocking figures, and to say the vaccine is to difficult to handle is beyond belief!

Scotland have managed to find a way to use it and they're even more rural than us.

I don't think that is too difficult just that Oxford is easier. Welsh Government are taking the easy way out instead of looking for ways to solve problems. They've done this since we started to move out of lockdown last summer.

How is it such an obvious solution not put in place.

Drakeford & Gething have such an easy ride by the Welsh public it’s beyond belief.

It’s a typical Welsh attitude of excepting second best.

Probably based on some sort of misguided sense of sharing everything out equally or not at all, which is all well and good when people aren't dying.

Get the vulnerable in densely populated areas done if you can't do everything else. Mrs Gladys Twp in Llansaintffraid might as well wait for the Oxford if she can't have the Pfizer anyway.

If you do this there would be complaints of bias. A large part of the problem is in Betsi Cadwalladr due the rural area it covers. If South Wales had all the virus North Walians would quite rightly complain as the Tory AM Darren Millar is currently doing.

The fact is Scotland have much bigger cities than us having the 3rd and 7th biggest cities in the UK with nearly a million in Glasgow and 500,000 in Edinburgh. This is nearly half the population of Wales. Scotland have given only marginally higher amounts than us according to the figures from BBC Wales yesterday.

Why is NI out in front with only 1 big city. They have managed to get the Pfizer vaccine out and a vaccination rate of 5.43% compared to Wales 3.59%.

NI have also managed 19,010 second doses compared to Wales 121.

There are no excuses for Walea lack of vaccination they did very few before Christmas, very few in the first week of January . Had wales started before Christmas on the NHS staff they could have been giving our doctors and nurses their second doses by now.

Pathetic excuse.

The size of the city makes no difference whatsoever - stocks will be appropriate to population. We have large hospitals that could hold stocks of the vaccine in North, Mid and South Wales. Wrexham, Bangor, Aberystwyth, Rhyl, Haverfordwest and Carmarthen all have major hospitals outside of the South West.

Vaughan Gething and Mark Drakeford have said it is hard to use in Wales. It is no harder to use here than anywhere else, that is an excuse that may cost lives. It is solely down to laziness.

We have 100,000 doses of Oxford arriving next week which is great, but we have double that of Pfizer sitting in freezers. We have vaccinated 100,000 so far, 100,000 more coming next week and 200,000 in the freezer.

By the end of next week we should have vaccinated about 15% of the population, we'll be lucky to have met half of that figure.

Darron Millar is correct to call them out - more should be doing the same. It shows how pathetic Welsh politicians are, the Labour dominance of the last 20 years has to end.

The politicians are pathetic because they can get away with it. Blame the Welsh sheeple for guaranteeing Labour in Wales always win no matter how rubbish they are.

When your job is that safe what is the imperative to do a good job. Hence we get endless excuses.

As far as the last sentence more people back Labour in Wales and Drakeford will be elected. The Tories like you will find that they will do worse than previously. Labour has had Corbyn in charge and people generally distrusted him. With him no longer there Labour support will increase but given the way the Assembly works it will be a small majority.

As far as your negativity is concerned Swansea Bay is having 10000 cases of the 80000 being given to Wales. By week Saturday half of the over 80s will have been vaccinated along with most front line NHS staff and care home residents and staff.

The pfizer vaccine is being worked through and given to care workers in the centres. Noticeably you who claims he is not entitled to the vaccine is having it anyway. You could do the decent and honest thing like most others and reject it but per your recent comment you are not doing that. Someone who does that is really in no position to lecture others.

Many on here criticise the Welsh Government for being pro Cardiff. Imagine the feelings if they chose giving the vaccine to Cardiff instead of Swansea but Dr W is proposing that between North and South Wales.

Most on here just want to know why Drakeford and Gething started rolling out vaccinations slower than the rest of the UK. That is a perfectly reasonable question to ask.

Drakeford excuses are not good enough
Pfizer to difficult to handle in Wales
Is is not a race.
We want more oxford vaccine.
We want to to be fair to all of Wales.

Once the Pfizer vaccine was available which it was before Christmas then is should have been administered in any hospital that the freezers. Until you start rolling it out you won't know if your working methods are good or need adjustment. No point in holding huge stocks just so you can then administer at a slow constant rate.
It is a race to save lives they only priority should to vaccinate at many of the vulnerable groups ASAP and not worry too much about spreading it throughout the country evenally. Get the Pfizer out at once then catch up with the oxford vaccine. It is hardly rocket science.

Your first paragraph, probably but we will see.

The second, it's not negativity it's facts, it's the reality. If those facts are negative then whose fault is that?

The third, in the world we live in you can only expect people to look after themselves. With such a rubbish government (devolved and in Westminster) we do what we must to survive. In a fair and equal world this wouldn't happen, it wouldn't need to. I I could get the vaccine today, if I could jump the queue, I probably would.

Fourth, I haven't seen what he proposed but it;s his job to fight for his area. In politics you have to demand more than your due to even get close to your due.

As for your second paragraph it might be facts. What about the fact than England has been having 10000-20000 more cases per day. Is that not to the credit of Drakeford and co and bringing in lockdown sooner but you dont mention that positivity.. What about the fact that Wales give England PPE last year or that they are looking to provide Oxygen to England as our stocks are higher. Why are those things not mentioned. You and others look at the negatives and not a balanced view.

We have a duty as members of society to act honestly. If I was offered the vaccine and I knew that I wasnt entitled to it I wouldnt accept it. We dont just look after ourselves. We have a duty to protect others who cannot protect themselves as easily as we can. This just shows in comments made about people being sent to vaccination centres rather than local surgeries.

The AM is complaining that Betsi Cadwalladr Health Board has vaccinated fewer proportionately than say our area. It might be more overall but fewer percentage wise given its population base and the fact it has the highest rate of over 80s in Wales. He is right to say it but what do you think he would say if all the vaccinations were given to South Wales instead because it is easier to administer. What would people here say if it was given to Cardiff instead of Wales because it was easier to administer than Swansea. We would rightly be up in arms about it and the same applies to the vaccine given to city areas as against rural areas.

How many cases there are in England, and I haven't looked at the figures to compare, could be relative;y proportional. England having 23 times the Welsh population.

If we have spare equipment and oxyegn it is our duty to help of course but wasn't there a fuss about Wales being short of PPE last year and aren't some areas running low on oxygen?

We do have a duty to act honestly but honestly, most people don't, not 100% of the time. In a crisis people look after their loved ones and themselves. It's human nature.

More dross from Drakeford , a "new" law stating Shops have to provide a written risk assessment. Businesses who employ five people or more in Wales will have to carry out a specific coronavirus risk assessment under new legislation. He said to help make people feel confident about going to work, if they cannot work from home, the Government will make it a legal requirement for all businesses with more than five employees to carry out a Covid risk assessment.
That legislation been in force since 1999 the div , no mention on upping the vaccination rate just more Friday bluster and no one questioned him .

It isnt proportonal. Most days there are currently substantially more in the UK than Wales. Over the last couple of weeks England has been getting between 10000 and 20000 more new cases on a pro rata basis. The current rate for Wales is 372 cases per 100000 compared to 583.4 for the UK and 622.3 for England.

As far as vaccinations Wales has vaccinated 127375 as of last night compared to 2918252 in UK. Do your calculation. We are not that far away and the reason is a couple of health boards are not reaching the levels of others and there was a decision made to not send over 80 patients miles to vaccination centres to have the pfizer jab but to use the AZ jab and give it locally. The pfizer jab is being given to NHS and care staff in centres. They are more able to get there. I know for experience that the most of the over 80s living locally would have difficulties getting to the centre.

One lady is 85 hasnt gone out with lockdown and doesnt drive.
Another is 82 has the district nurse call and doesnt drive.
Another is 82 and doesnt drive.
Another is 87 and is housebound and gets carers twice a day.
The couple next door to her are I think in their 80s and havent been out for years.
There is a lady down the road who is 91 and is housebound.
There are a couple down the road who are late 80s. I think he is still driving but suspect it is only local.

Getting the vaccination done locally either at a surgery or the district nurse calling is easier for them. As nearly all dont go out they wont catch it. Waiting an extra few days isnt going to be a major problem.

He wouldn't consider making new laws to enforce rules already in place because people would just break them.
Now he wants to make a new law that you say already exists? Havne't the Senedd had legal advice or is he just trying to look like he's doing something?

He has also made new rules for supermarkets so obviously now he feels people will obey them?
Ther again, most supermarkets had said last week they were going to toughenup so is the Senedd a bit slow here?

Still no sign of a mass community pharmacy involvement in vaccinations either. As someone on tv said earlier, (Rhun ap somebody!) 600 pharmacies at just 10 vaccinations a day is 6000 a day, 30,000 a week.

At least foreign travellers will need a covid test though, a bit late but better late than never I guess.

For balance, taxman, can you tell me what the Senedd have gotten right today?

We are a a nation of Labour voters and no matter how badly they perform and how obvious it is, people still make absurd excuses for them. It almost makes you think we deserve it.

I'm not a Tory by any stretch of the imagination - It is just absolutely clear, by many different measures, that Labour are letting the country down and have done for many years. Noticing this and expecting better does not make me a Tory.

It is good that half of the over 80's will have been vaccinated by Saturday week, but it could and should have been more. Those that haven't received the vaccine lives are at stake, and more lives are subsequently at stake in Wales than in any of the other home nations because of the slow roll out of the vaccine.

According to the priority list I'm not entitled to the vaccine. Yet. I am having it after agonising over whether or not accept the invite. The reason I did accept it is because you told me it was wrong to expect people who are at high risk and really needed it to travel to get it. As I can travel and am at low risk I accepted the invite.

In all seriousness, I should never have received the invite, but me having the vaccine is likely to protect my parents who I rely on for childcare and potentially save their lives. I've been lucky and I'm grateful to have the opportunity. That opportunity would have come over the Summer anyway - and I've obviously been counted in vaccine allocation.

I'm not lecturing others about the morals of getting the vaccine. I am not at all happy with the way that WG have handled the roll out. We are in last position in the UK and made completely moronic excuses as to why we are. Gething must think we are stupid.

There is no reason why we can't be vaccinating across all of Wales at a similar rate, the fact that we apparently can't is no more than another excuse.

Meanwhile my brother in law's 99 year old mother in sheltered housing in Port Talbot is still waiting for the call...

Is she going to be going to the surgery or is the District Nurse going to be delivering it. 35 of the 49 GP practices in Swansea Bay have had supplies and the remainder are getting them next week. If she is housebound it might take longer as the district nurses have to continue with things like Cancer Support and Insulin and Tinzararin injections and will need to work the injections in. Is she housebound and not going out. If she is then she is unlikely to catch it.

I dont know if you have seen the figures but this is the equivalent of over 260000 in a day UK wise.

PHW data also shows 126,375 people have now received a first dose of the coronavirus vaccine as at 10pm on Thursday, January 14. That is an increase of 13,402 on the figure reported the day before.

The issue of pharmacies giving jabs is a political smokescreen. Firstly the only person who can give them is the pharmacist. Every time I go to the pharmacy the pharmacist is busy authorising the drugs. Who is going to do that if the pharmacist is giving injections. Secondly the pharmacist has the same problem as surgeries in that they will be using AZ and not Pfizer. Thirdly we have so far had 40000 AZ drugs most of which have been given to care home residents who are meant to get them first. Swansea Bay has this week had enough of the drugs to give 3500 between 35 pharmacies and these will be given in the surgeries. Not all surgeries have been given them. 100 a week for those who have wont last long without giving them to pharmacies.

The basic issue is how to give the Pfizer jab and in Wales we have elected rightly in my opinion to save over 80s travelling distances by giving the AZ vaccination locally and let people who can more easily travel do so.

As far as supermarkets is concerned the issue of mandating firms is unnecessary. The figures have dropped hugely with them open so I really dont see the point. Neath Port Talbot and Swansea have dropped by 2/3 since just before Christmas. In Skewen cases have dropped form 100 on 22 Dec to 35 today. Neath Abbey has dropped from 60 to 13 and Cimla 75 to 17. All in your area and all helping to keep you safe.

In reply to what has been right giving loads of vaccinations at a rate that will increase again next week and getting the virus under control. I think those are good things done.

I would also add we in Wales havent had to send patients 200 miles because of a lack of intensive care beds. London to Newcastle and Kent to Plymouth is a massive distance away.
