Decision upheld not to prosecute soldiers in NI 13:03 - Sep 29 with 6553 viewsonehunglow

Sense at last.

Court of Appeal upholds the decision not to prosecute soldiers for "bloody Sunday".

God only knows how those soldiers have suffered under this cloud for almost 50 years.

A filthy ,dirty war where they were hung out to dry by a succession of British Governments.

That day is of course now folklore in Londonderry and the IRA supporters are of course livid with the decision.

They should try him before a jury who will find him not guilty in 10 minutes .
This is nothing but a whitch hunt and show trial to appease our terrorists enemies.

Well, let him take the stand then, as you say, if he's innocent then he will be acquitted.

In fact, he should welcome the chance to finally clear his name and put that awful day in Derry finally behind him.

You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.

If the Good Friday agreement meant amnesty for one side, then 100% it should mean amnesty for the other.

No matter innocent or guilty, the charges should not even be contemplated.

Yes I think it's time to move on.
But that's easy for us to say I suppose,

I said years and years ago on the net that the goodies will be seen as the baddies and baddies as the goodies as time rolls by.

Why did the UK Government cave in when in a winning position ?, why all the apologies by the UK Government ? , why all the consessions by the UK Government ?, did they realise that they were in the wrong, what other explanation is there ?

Please point to an example of the British Armed Forces targeting civilians and children

These imbeciles were never in a 'war' with the British state.
It the UK had 'gone to war' they would have been annihilated, same goes for the Republic of Ireland.
The terrorists of N.Ireland, targeting women and kids were treated with kid gloves, precisely because the British state and the British armed forces do value civilians and children.

So much damage has been done over the years by a few dishonest dreamers. Losers.

If its not a war, then your old soldier is on a murder charge.

Strange my family came from Cork and were grateful for the opportunities afforded to us in the UK. In particularly the community in Greenhill and the Hafod. We never hated the British and always believed murder and terrorism are wrong.

The British army was said to have killed over 300 people during the troubles, over 50% of them were unarmed civilians, 61 were children, only 4 soldiers were apparently done for murder and only served 2 or 3 years and then got back in the army (blydi hell can that be right ?)
What I want to know is how many did they kill as well when moonlighting for the loyalist paramilitaries when off duty ?

It's all shocking, not in my name as they say.

Are you still stuck in 1975 ?
Its obvious that all killings are equally bad.

We have had 20 years of peace.
Do you recognise that achievement ?

Do you think British/English lives are worth more than Irish lives ?
It sounds like you do.

Aaah, the Welsh Nationalist Gwynfor Evans wrote that;

The government recognised Welsh nationalism as valid grounds for conscientious objection, although this was not always put into practice. Of the two dozen or so people who refused to be conscripted on Welsh nationalist grounds, around half ended up in prison and the rest were fined. Those nationalists, like Gwynfor Evans, who refused to serve on religious grounds were treated more leniently.

The war was deeply divisive for Plaid Cymru. While some in the party wondered whether a German victory would be better for Wales, others supporters were hostile to Nazism and served in the British armed forces. Saunders Lewis' alleged anti-Semitism and fascist sympathies became a target for opponents of the party and an embarrassment to some of its supporters.

...do you expect me to take that book seriously?
I don't.

Have a flick through and point me to Gwynfor's source material for his assertions.

Wirral.

Don't forget Welsh boys served in NI as they have throughout decades. They were and are proud to do so.

You simply cannot kill British people on the mainland and justify it.

Ireland, like Welsh nats wouldnt have minded a Nazi victory as they thought it would break up the Union.

Ireland gave tacit support in the form of De Valera.

Welsh soldiers should not be deployed into war situations without the approval of the welsh government.

You seem to be suggesting that they were in the north of Ireland representing the welsh government or the welsh people. They were not.
Poverty in wales is the main recruiting driver for the British Army.

The right wing Tory fascists are taking the uk nearer and nearer to 1930s Germany. To suggest that the progressive modern inclusive nationalism of Plaid Cymru is somehow right wing Is quite bonkers.

Yes there were deaths which shouldn't have happened but for over 30 years more than 300,000 British troops served in Northern Ireland during Op Banner , all armed certainly whilst out on patrol some deaths accidental some preplanned or some in the heat of the moment but as someone once stated “You can’t understand someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”
I note that you state that only four soldiers were convicted of murder, either that is a true reflection on the professionalism of the troops or major miscarriages of justices have been performed , I don't know do you ?
Regarding moonlighting are you referring to members of the UDR ? If so although I don't condone some of their illicit actions I can understand why they occurred .

In a "war",both side know each other .
In a cowardly ,filthy, guerilla, conflict like Ireland, kids and women used to lure young soldiers to their deaths. Informants and families kneecaped or slaughtered .

This is what IRA did. Its not remotely laudable and the British soldiers showed unblievable restraint over the years.I would argue few other countries armies would have showed such restraint.

And yet, their filth saw army style funerals with the gun pre eminent.

Only the British could shaft the very people that protect them.

The Irish have far greater shame as a country, not least the wholescale, state sponsered child abuse over decades
