There are about 25m over 50 according to the latest figures (which is the first phase). Allowing for those who can’t take it they’ve provably enough for everyone over 50 who takes it up. I imagine that’s why that amount was ordered.

I think the aim is that the Astra Zeneca vaccination will cover most. Hopefully will be out soon. It is going to be easier to use and will cover under 55s or perhaps 60s. There are just over 20 million over 55 and just under 20 million over 60 and not everyone will have it. Nearly all the deaths with covid are over 50. They said yesterday that covering the over 50s would prevent 99% of all coronavirus deaths. | | | |

It will take a year to vaccinate the whole country. A second dose will be required after a month so unless the program is stepped up dramatically, in the second month only the second dose to people who have previously been inoculated will be administered. |  | | |

I dont think we will vaccinate all the at risk groups in a month. Hospital and care staff will be dome first then over 80s then 75s, 70s and 65s. That is the plan. if hospital and care staff are covered hopefully it will stop the large accounts of deaths we are having there. Swansea Bay Health Board have set up 3 vaccination centres locally. The Bay studios, Margam Orangery and Canolfan Gorseinon. They hope to do 3200 injections a day so getting all at risk groups done is likely to take several months. | | | |

Difficult to know.They have been trying to recruit recently retired nurses, paramedics, pharmacists etc for it. My personal view is they should just train the students in Swansea university and use them. They have a ready made workforce who they could pay a wage to. Giving an injection isnt difficult. I give myself insulin and was taught to do it in minutes. It might be slightly harder having to draw it up but even my late mother was able to do it years ago. I spent years trying to teach her how to use the cassette radio cd player without success but she couldnt master. I am sure most nursing, midwifery, paramedic students would be more than capable of doing this and it could be classed as part of their training. Obviously they would need to be vaccinated first but there are hundreds there for the various centres and could be used for Hywel Dda as well and part of Cwm Taf as well. | | | |
