I though fans might pick upon the Sean McCarthy link. Then I realised he played for Swansea 35 years ago. Seems like 15.
These were the dark ages for Swansea city. In historical terms the Toshack era was the Roman period and what came after was not memorble or well reported between 1984 -1996 when Jan Molby arrived.
McCarthy was a big no 9 forming a local pair with the battler Ian Love. They always gave 100%.

Never got my head round the original Joe Allon being allowed to leave.
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

They were very troubled times, I remember them very well especially the mid week matches under floodlights. It wasn’t the bee5 of teams, but as as you say Sean McCarthy and a lot of his fellow players always gave 100%.

Dai Gwyther - the last local one ?
Sparky if talking Cymru level.
Hartson for Wales and Swansea born. Football coaches can advise how easy is it to convert a 6ft 3 in footballing Centre back into a busting Centre forward in the Drogba style. With players in the academey from the age of 7 why can they not adapt? Do coaches pigeon hole 12 years olds as centre backs too soon?
If I was Winter I would be asking the Academy to produce adaptable players. Could Joe Lewis be adapted to a no 9 for example.? I remember back in the day Paul Warhust doing it very siucessfully. I cannot think of too many like this to be honest.

I remember the bbc pundit bloke converting to centre forward and a Blackburn player. Warhurst ? Pretty sure a John Charles was a centre half then striker.

Both John Charles and brother Mel played centre half and centre forward. Sometimes playing both positions in 1 match.

Dion Dublin and Chris Sutton both started their careers as centre halves.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Yes big bad John is a great local example.
John Charles of course was a world class player. Played centre half one season like Rio Ferdinand, then goes centre forward the next season, plays like Ruud Guillet and scores 30 goals. Alex Ferguson says he would have got in any team in the world in any era.

Billy Wright said John Charles was the best centre half and centre forward he'd ever played against.
