| Covid: Wales lockdown at midnight as Christmas plans cut on 14:14 - Dec 20 by exhmrc1 | If you go back to the first lockdown food shops remained open. The figures still came down. They kept coming down when schools opened in June, when non essential shops opened, when tourist facilities opened and continued coming down from April to August with all those things occurring. When pubs opened indoors there followed an increase in cases. This was made worse by people returning with the virus from abroad going to pubs and other peoples houses and there being increases in infections. If shops were the problem then the figures would not not have continued to drop. |
I guess PHE are wrong and fabricating this. https://www.itv.com/news/2020- [Post edited 20 Dec 2020 15:01]

| Covid: Wales lockdown at midnight as Christmas plans cut on 12:00 - Dec 20 by Catullus | I haven't seen recent numbers but a while back shops caused 13% of new cases and pubs caused 14%. That suggests that you are far more likely to catch it in a pub because very many more people will be in shops than pubs. The previous points about peoples behaviour and alcohol stand too but people in shops don't behave that way, usually! |
And they knew this how? Does anyone actually believe that the Government and there experts have any idea where the actual virus transmission has yaken place? Or do you believe that like everything else they do it is based on "best guesses"

Sorry, I don't believe very much at all coming out of any branch of the Government. Andy, ask yourself this, how can they possibly know? Compare the cubic capacity of a supermarket and the number of people in it to a packed out hall with a rave going on in it. Or a packed out pub with no masks.

They have test and trace, so they have a good idea from that data

18.3% of how many people who visit supermarkets every day. Compare that with pubs and the numbers that use pubs every day and then you will get the true answer. We have 4 very large and busy Tesco's, 2 huge Asda's as well as Sainsbury's and Morrison's in Swansea. You can add it many Coop's, Iceland, Tesco Express , Sainsbury's local, CKs, Premier and many others. How many people in Swansea alone go into these places.. Using your percentage of 18.5 and todays figure of 248 that would be under 50 out of how many. Now go and find the figures for pubs both percentage of overall cases and numbers of people using them. It will show where the bigger problem is.

People have to go to supermarkets to get food, they don't have to go to pubs. The majority wear masks in supermarkets and don't generally mix. Many pubs however don't enforce the rules and close contact is happening. Most pubs are responsible, but some take the piss. There are certain pubs that have remained open for their regulars all along. The regulars then go home and pass it on.That's the difference.

There is a massive disparity in the numbers of people going to supermarkets and pubs. Probably thousands times more people use supermarkets than pubs so a couple of percentage points is meaningless. Usual rubbish being posted to suit the posters aims just as Sweden has had to change policy being the country he has been backing. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Hmmm, so a household less than 5 equals 1.2%. Isn't that (a household of less than 5) the vast majority of the country? It makes a compete nonsense of the previously released numbers, surely? Or are they just guessing......or releasing numbers to back up their current plan? I don't know. It's getting har to believe anything. Mybe I'm just going stir crazy. If this keeps up I'll be in the F it and just get on with it camp!

I’d make it clear, mess about and it’s your licence that’s on the line. Put plans in place to support businesses, but any messing about and they are shut down. For what it’s worth, I think the super spreaders are the schools, kids are asymptomatic and it’s being spread like wildfire. I have 2 mates in work with very similar circumstances, both have kids in school, both have worked from home extensively as they are shielding vulnerable family members. Both have caught Covid, the only thing they can pinpoint is kids in school.

Surely not really him, not a person on his income going to a "poor persons shop"? Though obviouly he'd want the plebs to stay at home so he can shop safely! This berserk behaviour after the announcement was bound to happen though, the rush I mean not drakers going shopping! It's happened before and after the other lockdown and it'll happen again. We're having our food delivered tomorrow morning. We were prepared....in other words we could book a delivery slot for the 21st and went for it and as it turns out, we got lucky. Apart from a trip to the local chemist and to our corner shop fro bread we won't need to go to a supermarket until the new year now, hopefully. Being banged up at home again we may get through the food quicker than normal!

Public Health England havent fabricated anything. It merely shows where more people who have covid have been and is typical of what happens with non covid public as well. Read what the PHE experts has said. Yet more of the rubbish you believe which is way off the truth. " However, Isabel Oliver, Director of the National Infection Service at Public Health England said it would be inaccurate to suggest that supermarkets are causing the virus to spread. She said: "Common exposure data does not prove where people are contracting Covid-19. "It simply shows where people who have tested positive have been in the days leading up to their test and it is used to help identify possible outbreaks."

So they may have visited a pub/restaurant then. Not really a reason to close pubs in that case if it doesn’t prove where it spread.

I think this time is slightly different. Telling people who still need to finish Xmas shopping that the shops will close in a few hours was always goi g to cause people to panic and go to the shops. Not everyone can do all their shopping early, some rely on their wages every month to buy throughout the year. Drakeford messed up on this one.

That would be why I said it was bound to happen! Thing is, Drakeford couldn't win here because people are stupid. Everybody was aware (or should have been ) that things could change for the worse. people should have been more prepared. But humans being largely stupid too many people still left it late and rushed around like idiots putting themselves and others at risk. Myself and my wife aren't the brightest sparks but we are prepared, all the Christmas present are here, wrapped and under the tree, we have enough food til the new year appart from bread and milk which we can get at the local Nisa just down the road. Maybe people just need to wake up, I can't blame Drakeford for this one, he was wrong to give several days notice the last time but this time he had no choice.

Yes but the stats I showed you previously show that the numbers started rising when pubs and borders were re-opened and didnt when non-essential shops and others things were opened up. If you look at the figures you used more people went to supermarkets than pubs or gyms. That is what happens in life. Kids had gone to school. They do that daily. It isnt a surprise at all that people who contracted covid went to supermarkets and schools as that is where the vast majority go. What needs to be shown is how many catch it through supermarkets and pubs relative to the numbers who went there and this article and you using it is meaningless,

There are many single parent families in the country with too many people on zero hours contract , pay day is the 24th, husbands working away trying to earn a crust, double shifts etc there are many reasons why people panicked and not because of poor planning but purely down to the ability to pay . I'm no expert ( thank god ) but when will income support be paid etc. even on Saturday evening when it was announced there were mixed messages as there have been throughout this pandemic regarding the severity of the situation. Drakeford hasn't helped himself or more importantly the people he's supposed to represent throughout this crisis and Saturday was just another example of his ineptitude , imo

I take it that you are comfortably well off, that you don’t have to worry if you will still have a job after all this. I guess you do t know what it’s like to worry about letting your kids down at Christmas, that doesn’t mean spoiling them either. From what I gather, universal credit was puss today, Monday, a lot of people get paid on or around the 26/28 of each month but in December it’s a few days earlier, how would you feel if you still had stuff to buy this week but now cannot? There are many people who have been royally screwed over by Dopey and Guessing and co

No actually. I used to be a postman until I was medically retired in 2011. I am on less money today than I was 9 years ago. My wife had been made medically redundant the year before. We ended up in an IVA and for 6 years we were stony broke, we know about being hard up and even now, years after the IVA finished, as a couple we are still 40% short of the joint income we had when we got married nearly 14 years ago. We do it the old fashioned way, we save. Mind you we don't drink (well I do very occassionally) or smoke. We go without so our son can have what he needs first and what he wants if we can afford it. PS, massive queues at Marks and Spencers eh. That must take a chunk out of peoples benefits, maybe they should try Lidl or Aldi. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ [Post edited 22 Dec 2020 14:32]
