The benchmark is not the autos 21:06 - Feb 27 with 3018 viewsDr_Parnassus

I steered clear from the match day thread as it’s getting very toxic in recent months, but I have just read it and shuddered at some of the comments.

There seems to be a bar of expected achievement (automatics) and anything below that deemed as failure and reason for blame.

I find that truly remarkable.

The automatics would be an incredible achievement, way beyond expectation. Brentford and Norwich are far better sides with players being touted for £20m and £30m. We have cobbled together a side of local youth players and young loanees added with a few bargain oldies.

I am stunned we are going into March and automatics is a genuine chance. I don’t quite see how we have kept up this form (we have an 800k winger as a converted striker due to not having one) but we have and are here on merit. That is down to the players and management team.

But it seems many have forgotten this and have moved the goalposts of expectation from play-offs... to being in the top 2 in the division and using form more fitting for the realistic goal as opposed to the incredible feat - as a stick to beat the manager and team with.

We are not the best team in the league, we aren’t the second best team in the league. We don’t really deserve to go up in the top 2. Nobody is to blame for that, it’s the situation. In the same way as nobody is to blame if Leeds don’t qualify for the Champions League...

One of our strengths in years gone by was the fans and the club knowing what was in front of them and being realistic with their goals. Which is why we allowed Martinez to incorporate a new style, which required patience. Sadly in the mire of the PL many of our fans lost that sense and it hasn’t really returned.

Some of the comments on here are bordering on agenda filled, because they don’t represent any sensible train of thought. If people are expecting us to win every game, I really do question their sanity.

To be honest I was expecting a relegation battle last year and this.

With the squad we had last season and this we should be looking at who might catch us for the title.

He's also conveniently forgetting that Roberts who he'd pass off as being purely defensive is up there with divisions best for creating chances, not to mention his decent scoring record. Bidwell on the other side is similar if not as prolific.

And also he states ROberts will be a PL defender next season possibly yes if we go up , otherwise its not going to happen.

Whilst he is great going forwards he cannot defend, constanlt turns his back...which people slated Taylr for, and Naughton has had finger pointing for this too. HE played a season in the PL prior to our relegation had a great season last year yet no one has come calling even when they knew as a club we were up for selling....makes you wonder eh?

It's not tonight, it's been most of the season

Bristol City were awful, the worst team down there this season

And the whole 'should have scored 2 or 3 in the first half' is also a nonsense.

If we'd have got one we'd have sat back. Exactly the same as we did after the pen and exactly the same as we've done all season.

Other Championship teams play the same players and formation every game? Dc they??

I think if you take the time to look you will see Brentford tend to operate with the same core of 8 players week in week out ( in the Championship) and seem always to play 4-3-3

Data from BBC website if you d like to check Ive gone though Feb,Jan and Dec (Championship games)

Their eyes show them that like most clubs, wholesale changes simply don't occur from game to game.

Excellent thread Dr. and a healthy dose of realism and credible optimism in and amongst the doom and gloom that some seem intent on infesting this proper fans forum with. Especially after we lose.

Some of the weaker willed posters seem to thrive on any glimpse of negativity. They can't think or speak clearly under pressure. They only post with gusto when we seem to be struggling, yet are absent when we're flying. The twps jump on that twp bandwagon at the first opportunity. Like lemmings. Like clockwork.

"One of our strengths in years gone by was the fans and the club knowing what was in front of them and being realistic with their goals. " Spot on.
