| BBC a disgrace 09:37 - Feb 28 with 3581 views | trampie | Shocking behaviour by the British Broadcasting Corporation during the Wales v England six nations match yesterday, Sonja McLaughlin to my mind tried to trigger both captains and both coaches into saying England was robbed, I think she even used the word robbed to one of them. See has apparently tweeted that she is sitting in her car crying at the alleged online abuse she is taking, she should not suffer online abuse that is wrong but she is deserving of criticism, as is the Beeb regarding the match. Wales won far and square (by 16pts), Bigger did not signal a kick at goal and when the ref put his arm up and blew the whistle he played on, it was England's fault. Zammit fumbled the ball and instantly reacted like he had blown a try, but the ball was behind him and an England player inadvertently knocked it towards his own try-line and Wales scored, as soon as I seen the reply I said it was a try, I knew the ref would have to talk it through with the tmo and it was likely to be a try, although if it had not been given I would not have argued. The final pass for Watson's try for England looked forward but they never checked it. Itoje for England should have seen yellow for persistent infringements. There was no robbery, Wales won fair and square. The commentators were wrong and the ref right on so many occasions, Jonathan Davies was a disgrace saying the ref was MOTM and going on about there are no knock-on's in this particular game etc, underlined by Hardy getting down the wing and being tackled by the last man with the ball flying forward over the England try-line and they started the knock-on nonsence when the reply showed the England defender punched the ball over his own try-line in the tackle, Butler realised at the last minute and moved on as ironically there was a knock-on earlier on and they went back for that. Will English rugby and the English media now try and ruin the refs career, unfortunately i would not put it past them. | |

It was a poor interview tbf, I only saw the Farrell one. If she's in the job she takes the criticism, as long as that's all it was. Though I suspect she's getting worse being a woman which obviously isn't right. She should have picked up early in the interview that Farrell wasn't going to bite and backed off but she kept on going with the same line of questioning. He was obviously seething but very professional to be fair. Footballers could learn so much from rugby pro's. [Post edited 28 Feb 2021 14:30]

She tried to say England was robbed after Wales had beaten them fair and square by a large margin, players and coaches from both sides would not bite, players and coaches could have got into trouble with the authorities if any had gone along with the nonsense, she said she was crying in her car, what about the referee, what she was implying about him, he could have been crying in his car after she tried to say one team was robbed, I seen all the interviews and I apologise if I say wrong but I don't think I have that she actually used the word robbed to one of them, I was seething listening to those interviews, disrespectful to the game, the officials and the winning team, obviously she should not suffer abuse but criticism yes and her and the Beeb pundits were shocking.

He should have informed farrell that he was starting the clock but ateotd the defending side should never take their eyes off the opposition, just look at hardys try for instance. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

There wouldn’t have been so much personal abuse if it was a male. Dear God. She did her job. It’s her job to ask difficult questions. The fact the England’s captain is a monosyllabic bore who didn’t like being questioned and couldn’t cope unless smoke was being blown up his backside is not her problem. Farrell made a huge fuss on the pitch by rugby standards and she was entitled to ask him about it. A bunch of moronic English supporters being unable to accept defeat and deciding to take it out on a woman doing her job is insane. The situation was not helped incidentally by Butler and Davies being so desperate to retain their lucrative commentary positions that they were falling over themselves to make out England were robbed. The knock on stuff was an embarrassment. The law is clear. Whether they agree or not is irrelevant. The first try was an error by the referee but the knock on was not a knock on. The ball quite clearly did not touch the floor until after it had hit an English leg. The commentary team didn’t know the law, neither it seems did the idiots at half time and the constant references to knock ons for the rest of the game were ridiculous. So the male commentary team get the laws wrong. The female interviewing players asks the questions she should do. Guess which one gets a bunch of morons piling on.
| BBC a disgrace on 15:23 - Feb 28 with 680 views | trampie | Just watched it back:- She said to Alun Wyn there was an obvious error as regards to Biggar cross kick and Adams try and put it to Alun Wyn that Alun Wyn himself should have told the ref there was an error. To Farrell her opening line was "Was England robbed by poor officiating today ?" To Pivac she said about 'lady luck' and do you have any sympathy with the English, he told her that one of their players was penalised 5 times and that player was lucky not to see yellow. To Eddie Jones she asked him if he is furious with the referee. I knew she had used the actual word 'robbed' to one of them, Shocking interviews. | |

That is an informative explanation of the knock on law, and probably not many of us, including me, understood at the time. Perhaps the BBC should include a Referee on the panel to save the 'morons' some embarrassment.

I tell you somin, if circumstances were the other way round, all we'd have is how brilliant the mighty English rugby team were, very little would have been mentioned regarding the two incidents being mentioned, by the BBC, with exceptions being BBC Wales news and Scrum 5, they were well beaten through their own faults, discipline being the biggest.

It’s English supporters that have been having a go, not Welsh. The accusation is that she was attempting to force Farrell to say something he shouldn’t.

I find the mania for a series of interviews after a game a waste of time. No one says anything worthwhile as the questions are usually so banal. But when someone does try to ask a question that will potentially get an interesting answer, people don’t like it. I thought she was confrontational rather than bizarre. It was made worse by Farrell acting like a boor. He could have talked about the incidents without blaming the ref but got stroppy and a little petulant. He frequently is.

The doubt appears to be around ‘being in control’ or not. But also because he was moving so fast it was hard to see what happened until they played it a bunch of times. His reaction which is being regarded as ‘proof’ it was a knock on would of course be influenced by the fact he’d have assumed the ball hit the ground after it went behind him.

I think that’s a reasonable criticism. I do think though that the captain should be made aware that part of his job is to do the interviews. Even when they’ve lost. Not just want them when he can be told how wonderful he’s been. England rugby aren’t half a bunch of bad losers. They have been for years. Edited to add, their supporters are as well. Which always makes it so enjoyable... [Post edited 28 Feb 2021 16:13]

Always enjoy beating England in anything to be fair especially when there's a bit of controversy. The knock on try was a very unusual set of circumstances which needed viewing a couple of times to ascertain what actually happened. Definitely the correct decision prevailed. Lisa, whilst we are generally talking about female interviewers/commentators have you heard Jayne Ludlow on BBC radio Wales, her analysis puts a lot of ex pros to shame, excellent.
