It might be a game too soon, but will Cooper go with Ayew and Routledge on Saturday ? If not the next game ?

It says a lot about Lowe's current form that I genuinely would, I think, prefer to start a 36 year old Wayne Routledge over him. At least Routledge has decent ball control, a facet of Lowe's game which seems to have completely deserted him in the past month.

I'd obviously prefer Whittaker was given a chance ahead of Wayne, but I think we all know Cooper isn't going to do that.

My 36 year old neighbour can do 100m in just under 11 seconds in football boots.
Routs has his experience and still fairly quick over two yards 😉

That’s an interesting point

Linford Christie won the Olympic 100m gold medal as a 32 year old then the World championships the year after. He was still one of the fastest men on the planet going into his mid 30s.

Wayne is an athlete, a real flyer. I just hope he’s got over his injury problem(s) as he will be a big help to us if he has.

Thing is these players we've brought in aren't getting a look in and instead a 36 yr old Routs comes back form injury and jumps ahead of them all, he may even have jumped ahead of Morris who knows, not a good look for the new players who were brought in, yet can't even get 15 mins off the bench etc.

Have you considered the possibility that Wayne is a better player than the others ? Better equipped to deliver the goods? It’s hardly rocket science.

I think that midfield would do ok....We need Fulton and Smith and one or other of Grimes or Houirhane

I agree and I'd choose hourihane over Grimes right now. Yes, that will upset the Grimes brigade but we need a goal threat from midfield if we played smith and Fulton. Hourihane can pass as well.

I reckon that would be an absolute disaster personally.

Grimes is a defensive midfield player, makes more tackles and blocks than anyone and has played a big part in our defensive record.

Roberts...........Cabango.....Bennett......Manning

Arriolla..........Smith.............Hourihane.........Lowe

Only way we can accomodate Hourihane I reckon, I have left Guehi out as I assume he's injured.

Linford Christie not the best example as wasn't he banned for life ?
But yes if you are good enough you are old or young enough to warrant your place.

Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

If all Routs had to do was run 100 metres per game then maybe comparisons to Linford Christie wouldn't be nonsensical.

Unfortunately footballers need to cover a lot more ground than that in 90 minutes. A more suitable example would be a 10,000 metre runner, few of whom remain competitive past their early 30's.

We shouldn't be using a 36 year old whose best days are about four years behind him. Extending his contract last summer was a kneejerk reaction to his goals against Reading. He should have been thanked and left to go on his way, preferably with more respect than Dyer got.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Routledge should get the nod over CH. Routledge would bust a gut to get us promoted - last seasons Reading game a real example. And our best midfield unit of Grimes , Fulton and Smith should play and also Bennett.

More pointless info

Did you know that Leon Britton hardly ever scored any goals or created any in his entire career. End of. 👍

More silly comparisons ... try Barry Hole.
Apart from his early days Leon rarely placed as a CF or attcking forward.
Routledge and Lowe are attacking forward.
As I wrote ... just saying.

You can’t be that clueless surely

Stats have very limited use. They should be used carefully and not in an attempt to try to support a view as used alone they’re totally meaningless... yes meaningless 👍

The reference to Britton is a good one. Midfield player. Class footballer. Over 500 games. Almost no goals or assists and yet was integral to success of teams he played in. You understand now ?

Note, badlands and I are not chums ;we ve exchanged strongly and I respect him a a poster.I don't agree with him ,but there again,I float my own boat .

I like the formation with some tweaks but not sure we could easily teurn to that formation at this time of the season though it would make other manager's think how they set out and how they press against us.
I think Hourihane is a better player and in my three Smith and Fulton would be doing the defensive duties picking up the ball and pushing it through it Hourihane. Grimes has given the ball away to many times again and he is not a tackler as a defensive player should be.
