There’s quite a divide in Israel with the more liberal cities like Tel Aviv and Haifa and the more conservative Jerusalem. So it’s not just Islam that is withering on that kind of issue.
Islam is the reason why the Israelis cry wolf every 10 or so years to the USA to get billions in military funding to carry out massive technological projects as well as common armourments.
Let’s not forget that Israel is for Israel only - it wouldn’t hesitate to attack any nation if it could get political traction or capital out of it. :-

Maybe, if you were pretty much surrounded by people whose aim was to destroy you, you'd be prepared. You'd have well trained armed forces. It expalins a lot about why the Israelis are as they are.
These unarmed Palestinians, would they be the ones sending rockets and since the 1980's 172 suicide bombers into Israeli held territory?
Always puzles me how anybody can claim they don't have money for food or medical supplies but always seem to have guns and ammo, rockets and bombs. Even if you assume those weapons were given free by a friendly foreign power, why aren't they sending food and medical aid too? We know the amswer. | |

The army isn't just about wars, as this pandemic has shown. I'm more for cutting our nuclear arsenal and spending it on people instead.
What makes more sense, giving people jobs and training or buying weapons we will never use?
I'd bring back national service and make every military job an apprenticeship qualification. 2 years of learning to drive HGV's, learning engineering, IT, Nursing....whatever jobs the armed forces has and of course they'd learn discipline too.
Every year we spend well over 5 billion (14% of the defence budget) on our nuclear deterrent, imagine how many jobs, how much training that would provide. | |

i'm all for scrapping nuclear weapons. National service would be interesting , as it would have to involve both male and female .
When you say disciple, what you mean is conformity. The ending of national service, in 1960, helped bring about the freedom and creativity of the swinging 60s.
The army is fine for those who volunteer, and the vets seem to love the memory of it. The army is a cult to many and they carry it on throughout their lives, but there are also many homeless vets who can't seem to cope outside of it's safety net. | | | |

I agree with you mostly and certainly about National service.If it's ok for a free socialist country like Finland then it should be for us.
The problem is with our scum,the military is there to keep us down .
We are so skewed it's painful to behold.
Utterly clueless as to how to teach our kidsand utterly clueless as to how to protect our society especially the vulnerable .
Our young people ,as a whole ,are shallow,entitled and have zero respect for older people or authority. This starts at home and the problem is too many family units that are not. | |
