I think it's too early to be saying that. We lack depth, we need a few more players who will need to be brought up to spped too. The January window could be huge for us.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

We might well get into the playoff places but staying there could be a lot harder .

It is quite possible, even likely that we may lose the next two games.

No doubt those who have been conspicuous by their rarity this evening will be having a blast if we do.

Who would take 2 wins and 1 loss in every 3 games?

It would take us to around 80 pts and a probable play off spot.

If they press do what Bennett did yesterday and Downes did against Cardiff - loft a ball over the top to Laird and let him do his thing.

Said that to my mates today. Fulham came from nowhere on a tremendous run two seasons ago to get promoted. We definitely have it in us, we have a bit of depth up front, in MF most certainly and in defence. I’m so impressed with Hamer - his save was top drawer and his distribution excellent.

Edit - if we’re in the top 6 by Christmas I’m sure there will be strengthening - a couple of new faces would complete us.

You have mates 🤣🤣🤣

Only joking brynnie, we definitely have it in us mate, but RM will have to get them to work on systems to get past teams who press us well.

We aren't far off the Jan window, im certain we will get players in that will keep us fresh.

In a strange kind of way we are having players back reaching full fitness in a kind of “staggered” manner. Patterson is ahead of Ntcham who is ahead of Walsh in fitness terms. If Pato goes injured Walsh could step in . We have a core group that are on a par but Ntcham will catch up soon and we’ll see then just how good he really is. I think we aren’t far off full fitness and we’ll only get better as November wears on. Great management by Martin and his team.

Teams will read that though and double up on him, that may make space for the likes of Ntcham and possibly Obafemi, speed and players who have quality on the ball could win the day, all about options the more we got the better the chance which is stating the bleeding obvious, of course

Very clever tactic yesterday was drawing in the Peterborough midfield and attack then passing quickly through the spaces, it was an absolute master class at times.

Some of the best performances by away sides down here since we got relegated have included the exact same thing. Norwich in particular absolutely cracked it when they did us 4-1 a couple of years ago.

All I have seen is people saying we need patience with the initial style Martin brought. Him realising along with some other clued up fans that it wasn’t working, changing it like they wanted and it working.

Then those wanting patience with the initial style pretending nothing changed and they were right all along. Sound familiar?

This is the exact thing we were saying at the start of the season.

Lisa and I spoke about it on the match day thread of Millwall from memory, may have been another.

We seemed to be copying a style that never existed. A myth of Martinez and Rodgers style that they never used direct or long passing. Martin seemed to be playing to that myth.

We said that under Martinez and Rodgers we utilised short passing to move them out of positions and then spring a direct attack, often came from Ashley Williams diagonal balls and sometimes a deep lying Allen ball through to Dyer.

This was the most obvious thing lacking from Martin’s style he initially wanted to being here.

I also said it before the game started yesterday suggesting that is how we need to approach the game, it’s the opposite to what we saw against Hull. This is where we have seen most of our goals recently.

The short passes are a way of moving the opposition out of position before then going long. Earlier in the season we were going short just as a way of keeping possession and wouldn’t even entertain going direct or long despite there being clear gaps to.

This is what he has changed. That’s what we were saying from day 1.

You write your own narrative. Martin has never promoted one style of playing that he will follow come what may. It is you and Andy Cole who have done this.

One thread theme was winning football is better than attractive football. They are not mutually exclusive. You can have both. When Martin wins you say "see I told you". Winning football is great.

If he was bound to play short passes only he would be picking Walsh over any other midfield player. There was no point doing long passes v Hull they had 10 players behind the ball.

I actually think Martin should compromise for away games. The model is a Potter model . Impressive home form and regular defeats away from home against hustling markedly inferior sides feeding off mistakes. A touch of Cooperball might garner more points.

I write the narrative that exists. Do you have to promote something to implement it then? I don’t believe that is the threshold of what constitutes implementation, is it?

When Martin came here, it was clear to anyone with eyes or even a passing interest in football systems and tactics that he was set up with a clear intention to avoid the long ball at all costs. It meant we were vulnerable to the press, ineffective in attack and slow in approach.

This is what we saw week after week and the call to solve that was a direct ball and a willingness to play long. This is what has been changed and this is what has contributed to our recent upturn in results. You can deny it of course, but you would be wrong.

Are you suggesting that what Andy Cole has said, I am responsible for? You may have to explain that one to me. Are you responsible for what Catullus says, for example? If you wish to attribute something to me then you will have to find a direct quote, I’m not having another posters comments or thoughts be attributed to me, regardless of how convenient that may be to you.

I have always advocated for the most effective method of winning football matches, with the squad available. If that is 15000 passes a game and as a result works, fantastic. The point at the start of the season is that the style was not working and will never work, I stand by that. It’s an unsustainable way of playing that he has not shown success with anywhere as of yet. If may work in the odd game but not something to build from as a means to go forward.

Your issue is (and you aren’t alone) that you are entrenched in your Cooper narrative. Everything is connected to Cooper in your mind even when it doesn’t exist. You see playing direct as a nod to the Cooper era and you refuse to acknowledge it at all costs. This is why there is such a reaction on here, it’s all coming round to the ridiculous stances people took last year and then projecting that onto this season.

This is why you were unable to compare Martin and Cooper and laughably decided to pick a date to start comparing from, which was after Martin’s bad start and after Coopers good start in order to completely change the figures to ones you found more palatable. Comparing every game this season as is the common sense and only way to do it sends a shiver down your spine.

At the end of the day, whether you like it or not. We are more effective and play far better when we have a more mixed passing approach, something we didn’t see a hint of early on. That’s because it didn’t exist early on, it’s been changed.

As for Martin’s comments, he said “I told you we would get better”. Of course we would, we have spent the majority of the season 17th and below. I could have told you that, we couldn’t have exactly got much worse with a squad that belongs in the top 10, possibly top 6.

Sorry I have to disagree. We need cover in defence and do you think Benda is good enough if Hamer is missing? Then up front, what If Piroe or Obafemi are out? Do we rely on Cullen and Whittaker?

I think we need 2 defenders and another striker/forward. The midfield should be ok.

Look at the bench yesterday, we had Cullen, Whittaker and Obafemi. It's not strength in depth when we have 3 forwards only one of which most of us would pick in the match day squad.

So what happened to this is a season of transition, we will take relegation to reset, we will need 4 transfer windows.....

Usual suspects posting hyperbole.....those who have been accused of criticism of the mighty Martin always believed we should be competing for a play off spot given the "strengthening" of the squad which lost the play off final....yet at the beginning of the season was failing to deliver results through the managers obsession with possession.

It appears the manager has learnt and is looking to play a more mixed up game which is looking as if it will deliver results.....still early days and still to soon to discuss play offs...but most of the reversing seems to be coming from those who talked of transition and time!

So basically you want a 3rd choice striker if the main 2 are injured, cover for our defence if yesterday’s 5 then Cabango, Lattie & Cooper also get injured?

I wouldn’t mind a back up keeper but not sure what keeper you’d get here to sit on the bench.
