| So..... on 08:06 - Dec 9 with 1070 views | Dr_Winston | Where to start with this... England relaxed restrictions when they weren't needed and have reaped the rewards from it with a significantly lower Autumn spike than their neighbours. Only now in the face of a new variant are they reconsidering. Wales have basically kept unnecessary restrictions for the entire period and are now considering making them worse, all for an inferior rate than England. The obvious conclusion to draw from this (indeed, has been obvious since last Autumn's spike after restrictions were kept in place during the Summer long after the point of effectiveness) is that restrictions should be as light as possible and imposed as reluctantly as possible. Even a clodhopper like Johnson grasps this. Drakeford apparently remains obtuse. In any case, it's weird to see people apparently celebrating their own Government restricting them for no reason. | |

Is it Drakeford or his advisors? I'm no fan of the man and even though he is an intelligent lad, despite how he comes across, I want to know who is telling him the best course of action. On a side note, I went in to Tesco Express on St Helens Road and apart from myself and a guy in his 70's, not a single person was wearing a mask. What is the point od restrictions if no one is following them in certain areas and in examples like this can you expect the rate of infection to be higher?

Its not notvthe locals spreading it, as they have been mainly very good. Johnson has now followed Wales lead. He should have done it months ago.

Boris would have, but he doesn’t command the support of his MP’s, some of whom have recently created a Covid version of the JRM’s ERG. Sensible restrictions should have been maintained. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

This government has shafted people more than any government in recent history, maybe with the other deception of Thatcher, and there has never been so many cheerleaders. It’s obvious why but people can’t discuss it openly.

As the announcement made showed it could now be from 3 months and due to his booking being in the week after Christmas he went on to the NHS site to see if an earlier date was possible. Yes he was given an appointment for this morning. Turned up to be told they couldn't give him the booster as they hadn't yet received authority for the 6 to 3 month change.

Here on Wirral, just north east of Wales,I find it a social issue. Consider this ;you will les mask wearing in Home Bargains than you will at Marks and Spencers or Sainsburys. It is quite stark. Ironically my best friend died of covid and he was a Director at Home Bargains having known Tom Morris for years. His family were staggered and shattered when he fell to Covid right at the beginning of this pandemic . His family really did wish people wore masks but stores are disinclined to enforce. It should simply be no mask no sale.Quite why they dont is an outrage. Morrisons are given all customer masks as they enter a store.

| So..... on 12:01 - Dec 9 with 868 views | LittleEnglandJack | I'd laugh if I wasn't so angry about it all. Johnson has literally had a case study in how completely pointless these measures are across the border from him, with Wales regularly having a similar if not worse rate infection rate than England, and yet here we are. Allegedly all for a variant that by most accounts is highly transmissible but mild... And now, of course, our Dear Leader, driven by his compulsion to 'be seen to act' and outdo the UK Government, is going to make life even more depressing for us in Wales. Well, I've had enough, as have most people I know. Literally nobody I know is scared by Omicron or wants new measures- we just want to spend something like a normal Christmas with family and friends. If we catch Covid so what? We're all either double or treble jabbed, we'll isolate for a week and feel a bit rough and carry on. If Drakeford introduces Covid passports and face masks for hospitality again, which is being mooted, then I'm going to stop playing the game. I was happy to settle for the middle ground we have already had, but more measures are going to push me over the edge... | | | |

Boris has announced a reduction in 6 months to 3 months, but it’s not as straight forward as just making the announcement and it’s all systems go. The administration of vaccines is governed by PGD’s (Patient Group Directions) and these need to be changed so that the vaccines can administered as per the new dates, if the PGD hasn’t been changed then the Health Board can’t change their operating procedure to reflect the 3 month time limit. The PGDs are national documents and stepping outside directions exposes individuals and organisations to potential litigation. When the current booster vaccine program was devised and timelines were set according to staffing capacity etc, however the 3 month window will now have blown those plans out of the water. I am pretty sure I read that the aim in Wales was to deliver 19,000 vaccinations per day or 133,000 per week, but earlier this week Eluned Morgan announced she wanted that ramped up to 200,000 per week which is a huge uplift as most of the vaccinations are being delivered at Mass Vaccination Centres who are staffed by a mixture of non registered staff, some registered staff, retired nurses and paramedics and staff doing OT from local hospitals. Standing up and promising the people ABC is easy and raises expectations, unfortunately there are times that prior engagement is necessary and I’d have though Boris st al would have had their ducks lined up before making announcements etc, which may not be the case.

Thanks for the reply and it does seem as if that's the case. The appointment was booked in line and the a appointment made at a large Boots pharmacy. After a bit of phoning around it has been confirmed that he can have the jab tomorrow at our walk in hospital. Although available to book on line it is a care point that not all showing available have the required authority yet.

Down our way they’ve cancelled walk ins for now because they were overwhelmed and the people who had the appointments - primarily the elderly most of whom have various medical conditions were being kept waiting too long. One of our local MVC’s unofficially will allows “walk in’s” as along as it isn’t too busy and it’s not adversely impacting on those with appointments. The staff there are really good and do their best to meet peoples needs.

I live right on the border of Neath and Swansea and I see a lot of people not wearing masks in shops. Younger people mostly, I'd say, under 40 for sure. I can't say anything about cinemas but in the pub on a matchday there are very few masks worn at any time.
