Dogs have rescue centres that have caring loving people who live take over a living mammal. We have social services and a fey Police force with an appalling Justice system. How long will the punishment be More to the point, why does this go on so much.

We have created a society that sees babies conceived with no thought of care or responsibility ? The most significant thing we do in life ,to procreate. Marty children are being abused by people who really should not have them,as is the case here

Of course Barristers are a necessity but I always wonder about their moral compass. Being self employed ,they can pick and choose their briefs -unless Im mistaken so I ask the question as to why anyone would stand up in Court, having read the evidence of abuse and witnessed the videos of a child being tortured, then plead for leniency. I simply detest our justice system full stop. We need to protect our people

No we cannot pick and chose our cases. We are allocated cases and are under a professional obligation to accept them or face disciplinary action by the Bar Standards Board. We’ve no choice, otherwise none of us would deal with these people. Do you not think we are not affected when we read these cases ? What do you propose as an alternative? Police charging someone , forget about evidence and send someone to prison without representation ? Then prosecution in big cases are represented by a QC, are you suggesting someone accused of a serious offence should not be allowed to be represented? Justice must be equal. I asked you before, not sure if you replied, were you ever tasked to arrest eg a victim of dv who snapped and attacked her abuser ? If so, why would a police officer arrest her ? You’ve no choice, neither do we. We have never, nor will ever be allowed to ‘pick and chose’ our cases. Unfortunately people do lie, police do plant evidence. I’ve prosecuted people I feel sorry for and represented people I find repugnant. That the job and I do it without fear or favour. The alternative is the accused cross examining potential victims or innocent people going to prison. How do police sleep after one of their own murdered and tortured a woman or fitted up the Birmingham 6 ? Same ridiculous comparison. If you were wrongly accused of a horrendous offence, would you want a ‘scum’ barrister like me to represent you if the press labelled you a monster ?

No, it applies to all. QC's cannot deal with your everyday cases, such as burglaries and assaults. In order for them to become involved a 'QC certificate' has to be granted. Their fee is bigger than a 'junior barrister (any barrister is a not a QC is referred to as a 'junior' ) therefore the range of cases they can deal with is limited. However, if they are appointed and the case is one in which they have been appointed a certificate, they cannot refuse it. If I missed your main point, it was not deliberate, would you mind repeating it ? On a similar vein, you've done likewise [Post edited 16 Dec 2021 12:10]

I know about QCs . My point stands, which is,how is one's moral code not compromised when defending the likes of child killers. If you have no choice, then you are virtual slaves to the system. It cannot be comfortable. When given a brief of this nature, just how in name of all that is holy can a barrister be comfortable. I understand the professional angle all too well a Ive been in countless dialogues with Barristers over many years as well as being good chums with a clerk at Chambers in Liverpool. I could tell you more but this is not the place. The greatest issues in society,a I see it are 1.Breakdown of family unit which leads to wholescale child abuse 2.The lack of deterrent at sentencing 3.The insouchiance of successive governments and Home Secs of which this fetid chusterfark is amongst the worst I have ever seen. Almost as bad as May. 4.The lack of real public outcry. More demos and indignation about shoving fibre into a loft and silicon into a wall . Climate might be changing due to mankind but this is a far greater issue-IMO. I stand by every word Jon.

We are all slaves to the system, police and barristers but it must be correct that everyone, no matter how repugnant is entitled to be represented, otherwise where do you draw the line ? When given a brief of that nature, we are certainly not comfortable, do you not think that we carry it home with us ? Do you not think that putting witnesses through cross examination, take a toll on us ? Do you not think I've seen barristers break down and quit citing mental health due to cases like this ? You may well have been in dialogues with the Bar in Liverpool but they are not going to talk about reality if front of a copper, a lot of my colleagues, especially the men, still have a 'bravado' factor about them, pretending all is well, probably boasting and laughing about cases. However, to certain colleagues, its not the case. I've had many a conversation with barristers who cannot cope any more. A lot of barristers have kids and can easily see their children as the victims, however, we must still do our job and represent the client according to his instructions, as who are we to ask ? He may be innocent, that is a matter for the jury. .1. I agree 2. This is a myth, the case you referred to earlier, she received a MINIMUM of 25 years, it is very likely that she will receive a lot more. How is that not a deterrent. 3. All Governments bleat on about is being 'tough on crime' They have decimated the police number, probation, social services, CPS and defence (defence is also important for a fair system) prisons. There are fewer mental health facilities. A great number of people in prison have terrible mental health problems, compounded by the most awful conditions in prison, overcrowding, bullying, suicides, drug and alcohol use, violence etc, but they pander to the Daily Mail readership of 'longer and longer sentences' without looking at the cause. Lack of funding in society. Hope that answered your points, but you still did not answer mine about going to a job to arrest someone you felt sorry for and what would you do if you were accused of a horrible crime which you did not do but the press labelled you as a monster ? Surely you would want a barrister to defend you ? Some of the cases I prosecute or defend, I find it very hard to deal with, especially involving kids or animals, it is really unfair to suggest we have no moral compass and do not care. We do, alcohol and sometimes drugs abuse happens in my profession, luckily I do neither as I've an amazing wife and like to keep fit as an escape valve. Doesn't hide the fact that it takes it's toll I'm in my early 40s, plan is to retire early 50s and move to Scotland. Love my job but you can only do so much. Somewhere possibly Glen Coe or Argyll. Intend on spending a lot of time looking. Maybe find some land near a Loch and and have our own place built.

Thanks My first reply,in regards to your point about knowing a barrister,is that you say they wouldnt open up to a copper.Same applies. Why is it that barristers deliberately seek to demean, belittle, confuse or intimidate prosecution witnesses.Apart from career criminals,ALL are intimidated by the Court itself . It is a circus complete with costumes of finery. It is arcane to all but the inner circle. Arresting somebody for whom you felt sorry for means they will be treated well and ,as I have done, been advised as to what to expect and how to deal . If you think ALL coppers are trash, liars,BStters or simple scum then think again. I never liked being called a liar purely to unsettle me;you know it is a part of the process of wearing down police officers hoping they will say something barristers can use to use against them. It's why I advised all my troops never to use more words than necessary and not to be afraid of silence.Silence makes people uncomfortable .Barristers are very adroit ,clever and articulate but so are many police officers. You will always get a clash in tjose circumstances. If accused of a crime I was innocent of of course Id want legal representation but not to the extent that saw somebody pilloried and humiliated. Fact is far more guilty walk free than innocent found guilty. Initially I questioned how barristers felt when they protect such evil people. You present your case well but I am not convinced. As intelligent men/women,you have a choice. I left Police well before my time out of choice as I dint like what I saw . It has come to fruition too and I am so glad I went self employed . One day, we'll meet up. Maybe we could hire a small venue and sell tickets. May the Great Architect sustain you. Merry bluddy Christmas my learned friend.
