Russia invade Ukraine 14:17 - Dec 23 with 153120 viewsFlynnidine_Zidownes

Discuss.

Also why is Putin always described in the media as this rugged strongman? He’s barely five foot tall with his high heels on.

But that’s another debate.

Zelensky, was hugely unpopular before the conflict. His ratings were something like 21% and half of the Ukrainian electorate didn't even want him to run for another term.

Nothing like a war or conflict to improve a leaders popularity. We saw it here in the early 80s

No we didn’t. Thatcher got half a million less votes in 83 than she did in 79. It was the SDP splitting the labour vote that kept her in power, not some sort of rampant nationalism following the falklands war.

It’s this sort of lack of understanding of basic facts and the blind following of agreeable narratives that have led you to this misplaced anti-west, pro-Putin standpoint.

Is the Tarmac melted where the cars are parked and covered with melted rubber and plastic?
Is the building sooty damaged from burning plastic?
Why is white car rusty?
You have to look at everything with a very critical eye.

Most govts get less votes for their second term. She was unpopular before that and had more votes because of it .It was enough to get her re elected on a tide of Nationalism.

A war is an unfortunate distraction from domestic polices and it wins the leaders support every time. Except if they lose the war of course.

The tide of nationalism that saw half a million people abandon her? You don’t lose that amount of votes and still gain 60 seats without a major collapse in the opposition votes. Without the split labour probably would have had 3 million votes more than her and won a landslide.

You can keep parroting the narrative but it’s not supported by any of the data or facts.

He was unpopular because he failed to do what he set out to do. This happened because he tried to do too much at once and that included taking on four oligarchs at the same time - he only survived that because the oligarchs hate each other so much they didn't work together toi crush him.

But you keep jinking and try to maintain your victim blaming of Zelensky/Ukraine.

Good to see the invading Russians loose their black sea flagship which has been hit by shore to ship missiles. Perhaps the Russian ships will now be deployed further offshore and be unable to do so much damage to civilian targets.

Zelensky, has shut down 3 Tv stations, banned 11 moderate opposition parties , and removed any opposition

There are plenty of signs that Zelensky's main goal is to strengthen his personal authority. These include a willingness to remove of officials with nominally independent functions.

The first to suffer this fate was general prosecutor Ruslan Ryaboshapka, dismissed last year allegedly for refusing to pursue cases in line with the president's agenda.

Another victim of Zelensky's controlling reflex was Yakiv Smolii, governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), removed from office a few months later for showing too much independence - and replaced with someone more loyal.

Perhaps most troubling of all has been Zelensky's apparent willingness to use police and judicial powers to advance the interests of his entourage and intimidate political rivals.

Zelensky and Putin are cut from the same cloth

They are not cut from the same cloth.
Zelensky inherited a very corrupt country, the judiciary was corrupt and the country was run by or or heavily influenced by oligarchs, most were heavily connected with Moscow. The oligarchs also happened to own the TV stations and were peddling the Moscow tune. As part of the work to lay the foundations for joining the EU Zelensky had to address the corruption issues and that meant taking on the oligarchs. He couldn’t take the 4 big hitters on at once and has done things slowly. He’s made progress in some areas and it’s been slow going in others.

“Banned 11 moderate opposition parties” - it’s claimed all have close ties to the Kremlin and they’ve been banned while the country is under martial law. The biggest party who’ve been banned has 44 seats and is controlled by an oligarch who has close ties to the Kremlin, so much so that Putin is god father to the oligarchs daughter.

Obviously then Putin only invaded at Zelenskyy's command because he needed to boost his support.

Doesn't that sound bonkers! A leader can have poor ratings mind, look at Bojo.

Even if they were close to Moscow that's still allowed in a free country. Banning Tv Stations, political opposition parties and removing anyone who doesn't follow his line , seems like he's out putining putin in his quest for personal power

On March 5, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada expressed distrust in Riaboshapka, dismissing him from the post of Prosecutor General. Riaboshapka himself called the decision "built on outright lies and manipulations", the dismissal was initiated by people's deputies, some of whom are called close to the oligarch Ihor Kolomoiskyi and representatives of the "Russian world" in the parliament

The Verkhovna Rada is the Parliament of Ukraine.

So not Zelenskyy but pro Russian elements.

Smolii wasn't removed until after he had resigned. He claimed political pressure had forced him to resign. There may have been political pressure but he wasn't removed, after tendering his resignation they sacked him.

But you keep twisting the facts to suit your argument.

Russia has invaded Ukraine and are slowly destroying the place, the parties who've been banned are pushing the Russian cause. Imagine the UK in WW2 allowing the Nazi’s to have a media outlet based in London pumping out Hitlers propaganda.
We’ve also banned Russia Today tv from broadcasting in the Uk.

It’s an incredibly unfortunate happenstance that one of Russia’s flagships has accidentally and innocently caught fire causing it to sink beneath the foamy brine.

It is also unfortunate that Russia has lost over 600 tanks with nearly half of them abandoned either stuck in mud or they ran out of fuel.

Russian tanks for the most part will cope with the task of moving off-road and in spring conditions. They are lighter than American and European tanks, designed specifically for the specifics of the Russian climate. The weight of the Russian main battle tank T-90, according to Hauptman, is 46 tons, and the US Army M1 Abrams tank weighs 54 tons. The German Leopard 2A6 generally weighs 62 tons.

Also, Hauptman notes, referring to the opinion of Dara Massicot, a senior researcher at the Rand Corporation, the Russian military is initially taught to fight in any weather. The exercises in the Russian tank units last all year round, so the soldiers are familiar with moving through the mud. A thaw can only stop Western tanks, Hauptmann concludes.

Interesting although not at all relevant but keep trying , Perhaps someone could tell Ivan that he's not performing as expected according to Hauptmann. Why when you see the air /anti tank strikes on them that they're neatly lined up on main routes one behind each other getting picked off , why not leave the roads and and go line abreast if they're that superior.

If a tank get's stuck, it is by passed and picked up later, but the convoy carries on the good Ukrainian tarmac roads. Convoys also have air cover too.

I agree though, tanks have had their day, it's why Russia is sitting back and letting their big guns do the damage, hence the collateral damage

According to your previous posts Russian tanks ( modern army etc) are not prone to getting stuck a so why would they on "good Ukrainian roads"
Most image/film clips I've seen show that when the column is attacked .( front and rear ) then due to poor training and leadership the column is trapped as they try to turn into the "killing zone" rather that try to break out through it . Not sure what you mean by it being "picked up later " once its been hit (rather than just getting stuck) then its effectiveness is minimum , good for scrap though .
